"Run "

Ch 4

He drove while I ended up dozing against his back as the fields passed by. It only took a short while to reach the city limits where we had to skirt around a small road block using long forgotten dirt roads that took us up through a sparse suburb before dumping us into the endless grind of the city streets. Greenbough wasn’t a large city by any means, but it was big enough to ensure we could get lost until things cooled off a little. I sure hoped it all settled fairly quickly because I had a date with a certain Oz base in outer space I had learned the location of while we were under the wire.

“Do you have any funds?” he asked, strapping his helmet to the handlebars outside a motel nestled in a low rent district.

“Not enough,” I informed him. We couldn’t use the same card he had used back at the cabins without taking a chance on it being traced. I hooked my helmet on the bitch bar behind the back seat and smiled as I looked around. “Yet,” I amended, noticing an ATM not half a block away. There was a man using the automatic teller that looked like a fine, upstanding businessman. I grinned, tossing my bangs back arrogantly as Hiiro raised a brow at me. “Be right back,” I smiled, stepping into the flow of pedestrians as the man took his money, secured it in a money clip and dropped it in his front left pocket. A quick side step launched the guy that was walking in front of me into him whereupon a small argument ensued and I, as the good citizen, stopped to help him straighten himself out.

“Some people, huh?” I said shaking my head as I relieved him of his funds.

“Thank you,” he huffed, glaring at the other guy who had moved on down the sidewalk.

“You ok?”

“Yes, I think so,” he said, then stopped cold as he felt his pocket and discovered his missing money. “That man stole my money!” he gasped, turning to locate the guy who had disappeared into the next block. “Police!” he shouted, heading off in search of some aid to hunt the poor sap down.

“Shall we?” I smiled, returning to my partner’s side but I only discovered the significance of the haul when I pulled it out to pay for the room. It wasn’t going to last long but it would buy us a couple of days. I was really hoping we wouldn’t be there that long.

“I need access to a computer,” he informed me, dumping his pack on the floor of our second story… uh… room. I hesitate to call it that due to the obvious animal and insect population, but all in all it was a room.

“I saw a travel agency down the block,” I told him, suddenly feeling very, very tired. Man, did that bed ever look good.

“That should be sufficient,” he agreed, sounding as tired as I felt and I suddenly realized as we both stepped toward the bed that there was only one.

“You take it,” I offered spying what had once been an easy chair at some point in its life.

“It’s a double,” he pointed out. “There’s no reason we can’t share.”

The comment filled my head with a multitude of visions of him that proposed a very good reason why that was a very bad idea as the heat pooled between my legs. I was really beginning to wish he had never kissed me because whatever had awakened inside me after the fact was proving to be a real pain in the ass. I was too damned tired to argue about it however, so I curled up on my side while he curled up on his and just let the sandman take me away.

It was late into the next morning when I opened my eyes and realized I had not only slept in my clothes but Hiiro was curled up against my back snuggling me like some sort of huge teddy bear. I snorted mentally, who would have thought he’d be a cuddler? He was still sleeping soundly and I hated to wake him so I decided to just lie quietly for a while and let him rest. Besides, it felt pretty damn good and to be honest, I wasn’t in any real hurry to disturb him.

It was while I lay in his arms that morning that I finally had to face the fact that my feelings for him were growing into something entirely beyond my control. I had always known I cared for him more deeply than anyone else I had ever met but the newly discovered physical attraction brought with it a depth I wasn’t really ready to face. The call of the wild soon decided I needed to get up whether I liked it or not, but when I moved his arms tightened and my blood froze when he nuzzled my ear sleepily and groaned…

“Not yet.”

“Hiiro?” I gasped softly, feeling a rush course through my veins.

“Hm?” he grunted groggily, opening one eye as I turned to gape at him. “Oh, sorry,” he grumbled, scooting away but the arm he had under me remained right where it was. What the hell?

“Um, how’s your foot?” I asked, rolling over a bit more so I could see him. I just didn’t know what else to say. My heart was pounding so damn hard it was a wonder I didn’t just spurt blood out of my nose, but I had no idea exactly what I was expecting.

“Fine,” he sighed, then stopped to take a good look at me and I imagined myself looking very much like a frightened rabbit as my pulse sounded in my ears and the urge to reach out and touch him took a hold of me so strongly my hand actually moved to enact it. I stopped just short but his eyes had recorded the motion, analyzed it and reacted to it before my mind had supplied me with all the pertinent information and suddenly all thought simply melted away as he moved forward and kissed me.

It was very different from anything we had shared at the cabins. That had happened out of necessity and bore the weight of duty but this was light and warm and offered for no other reason than the pure pleasure of it. I liked the way his lips felt so soft against my own, and the way he nibbled hungrily at my mouth as his arm slipped back around my waist. There was time to allow myself to really feel him as my mind took the opportunity to fully attend to the matter at hand and noted that he tasted damn good and had oral skills that had my crotch swelling dangerously before he pulled away.

“Sorry,” he hissed, pushing away from me but my mind was still whirling in that delicious, purple haze.

“What?”

“I promised I wouldn’t do that again,” he said.

“Hiiro?”

“Sorry.”

And he was gone. Just like that. I was left sitting on the bed in a puddle of steamy desire, blinking owlishly at the door as it closed.

“DAMN IT!” I growled slamming myself back into the mattress and covering my face with the pillow so I could scream as it all clicked in my head. He wanted me! Damn it! Why hadn’t I seen it before!? He wanted me like I wanted him and thought I was rejecting him! Damn it all to hell! I had to tell him. That’s what was next. I had to tell him I felt the same way about him, that I liked it very much when he kissed me though I couldn’t imagine how he could have missed that fact. Whatever, he sucked when it came to emotional evaluation anyway. I had to tell him out right, there was no other way. However, finding him was going to prove to be a challenge. I just hoped he hadn’t bugged out so bad he decided to finish the journey on his own.

It was only another twenty-five miles or so to the valley where our Gundam’s promised us freedom and I was almost convinced that’s where he had headed by the time night fall came around again. There had been no sign of him at all no matter where I looked during the day so I had gone back to the room to get my bearings when I suddenly recalled his words upon our arrival here. I found him that night sitting quietly in front of a computer in the travel agency down the block. He didn’t even look up when I dropped from the vent shaft he had used for his entry. He just sat there looking as calmly collected as ever as he tapped at the keys and I scowled at him as I wiped the sweat off my palms on the hips of my pants. Show time.

“Find anything?” I asked, moseying up to his side.

“Reworking their communication net,” he informed me and I grinned inwardly at the visual of battalions of men being misdirected all over the countryside.

“You want to get something to eat?”

“What do you want, Duo?” he asked me shortly and it kind of pissed me off.

“Well, you ran out too damn fast to find out didn’t you?”

“I apologized,” he reminded me and my mind latched onto the name `Curshaw` as it flashed on the screen.

“What’re you doing?” I asked stepping closer to get a look.

“Transferring funds into the Curshaw account.”

Well, I’ll be whipped. “Really?” I grinned.

“A small amount for now,” he nodded.

“Untraceable,” I nodded in approval.

“Duo,” he said softly as his fingers stilled and I wondered for a moment what he was on about until I noticed how uncomfortable he looked with me hanging over his shoulder.

“Am I bothering you?” I grinned.

“I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t make a joke out of it,” he snipped.

“And I’d appreciate it if you’d give me a chance to point out the fact that I didn’t exactly run screaming when you kissed me,” I countered.

He stopped typing, turning to look at me with the cutest expression of `what the fuck` on his face I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Or didn’t you notice?” I chuckled, backing away so he could swivel the chair around.

“It is apparent you are attracted to men,” he told me straight faced. “But you got so mad after what happened at the cabins…”

“It was a bit of a shock,” I nodded, kicking back against the other counter. “It’s not like I’ve ever been attracted to a guy before.” Or a girl, for that matter. “Doesn’t mean I didn’t like it.”

“Then it could have been anyone…” he began, but we were not going there.

“Anyone else would’ve found a knife between their ribs.” Man, was he dense when it came to shit like this. Give the man a gun and he’d wipe out a full battalion single handedly but tell him you like him and his brain turned to mush. “Oh, come on, man,” I huffed, loosing what little patience I had left. “I care about you. You know that. Why’s it such a stretch to believe I fell in love?”

Whoa. Where in the hell had that come from? I couldn’t deny it though; it was as plain to me as the shocked expression on Hiiro’s face. I had loved him all along; it just never occurred to me that it would progress into any sort of intimacy.

“Look,” I sighed, knowing this must be pretty hard for him to comprehend all at once considering the situation we were in. “I’m going back to the room. When you’re done here we’ll order a pizza and sit down and talk about it ok?” He looked relieved so I figured I had chosen the right path and left him to finish his work. He arrived at the hotel room twenty minutes after I did.

“How can you be so sure?” was he first thing he asked.

“My heart tells me so,” was the only thing I could think of to say.

He was silent for a time so I got out the phone book to look up a pizza delivery place. I was trying to find something that delivered in our area when he spoke again.

“You make me… feel things,” he said softly, the strange quality in his voice prompting me to put the book down and look at him and I felt a tingle run through my body when he added on a thin thread, “Want things.”

“Like?” I prompted, holding the rather lurid images flitting through my mind at bay.

“Like this,” he replied, pulling me into his arms as he kissed me gently and I swear I felt the damn floor shake beneath my feet.

“That’s… acceptable,” I chuckled, wrapping my arms around his neck.

“Duo.”

“Hm?” I hummed, loving the way his mouth felt on my neck.

“I want to touch you,” he whispered against my skin and sent a massive shiver all over my body.

“All right,” I breathed knowing full well I was shaking like a leaf but I wanted him so damn badly I just didn’t care if I looked like a fool.

I hissed when his hand invaded my shirt. His fingers were so hot on my skin it sent an electric shock through me that robbed me of my senses and turned my knees to jelly. I couldn’t believe it was really happening. He wanted me. He really wanted me. I could feel it in his touch, taste it on his lips, it was there in every fiber of his being as he slowly ushered me back toward the bed and began to disrobe me. It felt kind of weird, I had always thought I would be the one hovering over the top as I peeled my first lover out of her clothes but the experience lacked for nothing to be on the receiving end. As a matter of fact, I couldn’t imagine it being any better than to be allowed the pure freedom of simply enjoying Hiiro’s touch as he drowned me in euphoric raptures I had never dreamed possible. The touch of his hand brought me so close to completion I almost lost it when he pressed himself against me, his naked body was so hot as his length pressed hard against my own.

“Duo?” he breathed stroking us together and I was vaguely aware of my legs slowly falling open.

“Don’t stop,” I gasped, not really knowing what my body was asking for but he appeared to have a pretty good idea and let his hand slip down the crack of my ass and I arched back and groaned as I as hit with a shockwave of pure ecstasy. His fingers felt so damn good brushing along my ass I barely stopped myself from ending it all right then and there. “Hoooly…”

“You like that?” he chuckled but my reaction had caused a waver in his tone I had never heard before. It was needy and desperate and wholly animalistic and made me ache to have whatever was lying inside him released and I shivered again just thinking about it. “Damn,” he breathed suddenly loosing all manor of humor and I felt my body invaded for the very first time.

“Hiiro!” I gasped clinging to him as he explored inside me.

“Please,” he begged, misunderstanding my fervor so I kissed him in a way that clearly stated just exactly how I was feeling.

“Hiiro.”

“I want…”

“Yes,” I hissed raising my hips into his hand but I had not expected what happened when he pushed deeper inside me and my vision suddenly exploded in a shower of white stars.

“Duo?” he groaned as I cried out.

“Now,” I begged pulling him on top of me. “Do it now.” I couldn’t believe the desperation in my voice but I needed him more in that moment than the air around us. He called my name once more as he entered my body and joined us as one and I felt for the first time in my life that I was truly whole. He was a part of me, something I had been missing since birth. I had finally come home. It was the single most rapturous feeling I had ever had and I held him close as he seated himself fully inside me, the pain screaming through my veins a testimony to my very existence, the pleasure of having him inside me, touching me, filling me up making that life more valuable than I could have possibly imagined and then… he began to move.

If I have ever thought about the moment that I would loose my virginity I’m sure it didn’t include Hiiro and had nothing to do with my body being penetrated but there was no way in hell I would have wished to change it. He was more than I could have hoped for and I found the fact that he shook above me as he clung to me tightly and rocked our bodies in time so overwhelmingly amazing it was all I could do not to break down and cry.

He displayed a hunger toward the end that left me breathless and calling out his name. That incredible strength inside him poured out and into me and for a moment I felt invincible as we reached out and touched the pillars of heaven together. He held me close as we slowly came down, the heat of the joining bleeding into the open air, our mingled sweat serving to cool our overheated bodies as he kissed my eyes, face and mouth and made me feel like the most cherished treasure that had ever been.

“I love you,” he told me and I suddenly felt like I could have flown to the moon if that’s what he wanted.

“How can you be sure?” I grinned.

“My heart tells me so,” he smiled then kissed me again and informed me we had less than thirty minutes before the stockpiles on the lower east side went up in flames.

“You sabotaged the city storage?” I grumbled, hurrying to dress and gather my things.

“Only the military houses,” he grinned and I couldn’t help but smile back at him. He got it.

“Duo,” he said, pulling me into his arms before I could walk out the door but I wasn’t up for empty promises or half baked plans of togetherness after the war so I kissed him and held him close for a good long moment before pushing away, grinning like a loon and exiting as quickly as my feet would carry me. If it worked out that we were together after the war, then so much the better but there was no way I was going to allow either of us to be put in a position that we made a bad decision based on some pie crust promise made in the heat of the moment.

The first of the explosions went off not half a mile away just as I was procuring a second bike and we headed in the opposite direction as a fast as we could. We didn’t really run into any major opposition until we were outside the city. Hiiro’s efforts had cleared the roads of roadblocks but the need for speed had drawn the attention of the local police, half of which were already busy tending to fires all over the city. We busted through half a dozen black and white’s before the Aries descended on us and we had to split up. He went west while I took the east roads and prayed like hell he made it to Wing.

There was nothing left to do now but run like hell so that’s just what I did. Ten miles of dodging, skirting, ducking, jumping and running like a bat out of hell until finally I saw the divine crest of the hill that hid the source of my deliverance. I caught sight of Hiiro out of the corner of my eye as we raced up the hill. He had made it. We were going to make it. I knew it even as two of the Aries sent rockets into the ground behind us and we each let our bikes fall free as we jumped, sailing into the valley, our bodies hitting the earth at the same time, my heart racing uncontrollably until I saw him stand up and run flat out for the trees then I was right behind him.

“Stay alive!” was the last thing I heard him shout as he thundered off in the direction of Wing and I took it for the promise it was. We would make it through this, both of us, and when we did we would find a way to be together. The thought kind of made me feel like I could fly again and I grinned like the freaky demon that I am as I clamored into Deathscythe’s chest and closed the hatch.

“01?” I called over the com and grinned some more when he confirmed.

“Enemy sited,” he came back. “Moving to engage.”

“That sounds like an excellent proposal, my man,” I replied, firing my thrusters and laughing like a loon when the Aries in the sky suddenly scattered like a bunch of frightened chickens when I joined Wing and rose up out of the trees. My slightly psychotic state was not improved when he came back with…

“Don’t expect a ring or anything.”

We made short work of the suits and I wondered when would be the next time we would meet as I headed for the sky and open space. Where he was headed was unknown to me but I knew he would be working hard towards ending this damn war and bringing about the peace we all craved. One way or another we would make it through. We had to, I just couldn’t see it any other way and I smiled remembering the feeling of his body embedded in mine as I busted through the upper atmosphere and reclaimed the freedom that was my birthright among the steadfast stars.
