Ch 2 The cabins were pretty much full when we reached the little lake. It wasn’t exactly full season for vacationers around the area but there were only five cabins and town was less than five miles away. Two of them were occupied by teens out looking for a better place to park than the woods, we could tell by the style of cars and loud music pounding inside. Two others were quiet, looked to be possibly fisherman or travelers settled in for the night. It was pushing five a.m. when we arrived but since it was primarily a fish camp the office light was already on. “What are you doing?” he asked as I threaded my fingers through my hair to unweave it. “Becoming your girlfriend.” “What?!” he hissed, glancing around like someone might have heard and I laughed my ass off. “Relax, man,” I chuckled, shaking out what is a considerable amount of hair when it’s down. I rarely take it down, only to wash it really, but it does make an incredible disguise when necessary. Having a unisex face doesn’t hurt either and I will never forget the look on Hiiro’s face as my lovely locks fell about me and I smiled and batted my lashes at him. “We need an alibi right?” I grinned resting my hands on my hips but I couldn’t hold it and busted up laughing when he blinked and I heard him swallow. “Y…you got any cash?” I chuckled, already digging in my bag but was surprised when he produced a gold card from somewhere in all that skin tight spandex. I waited outside while he rented the last cabin. He’s pretty good at evasive bullshit in a pinch and I almost laughed out loud when he introduced me as his fiancée. The clerk grinned and nodded in a way that made it clear he not only didn’t believe us, he was used to teenage couples out there. Made me kind of want to forego the bed and just sleep on the floor. The point wasn’t to sleep however, there would be a vid unit, a bathroom and, if we were lucky, a radio in that cabin which gave us everything we needed to gather some much needed information. I gasped as a rush filled my veins when he grinned and slipped an arm around me when he came out waving covertly to the attendant as he ushered me along. I didn’t mind his aiding in the farce but I am not accustomed to being treated like a girl. It was a decidedly strange feeling to have that protective, possessive arm around me and the resultant flush and heightened heart rate wasn’t helping me keep a sharp mind. However, when I tried to pull away he tugged me tighter, glancing an indication that revealed one of the quiet people had actually come here to fish and was prepping a boat down by the dock. “Satellite,” I observed allowing him to deposit me beside the door while he unlocked it and he nodded, glancing at the dish himself. My heart jumped when a couple of the teens from a neighboring cabin stumbled drunkenly from the bushes not ten feet away, their eyes brightening when they caught sight of us, but it just about busted my breast bone when Hiiro suddenly stepped up and pinned me to the wall. I had never been kissed before. Never really had time to think about such things and I can’t say I had the capacity to think much about it just then. I was shocked that he had done it even though I understood the need to make sure our unwanted company didn’t get a good look at either of us. The action would also confirm our status as a couple but… damn! It was disturbing how damn good he was at it, kind of made my knees weak and all the blood just made a mad dash for regions I really didn’t want him getting wind of but I didn’t catch the moan until it was too late. The kids giggled drunkenly and staggered away but I’m afraid I was little too caught up in the fact that Hiiro’s tongue was crawling around inside my mouth to notice. “Inside,” he breathed, pushing me through the door once the kids had moved far enough away and I staggered as drunkenly as they had been across the floor. “Check the news,” he said but I can’t say I really understood the words and ended up just standing there staring at him as the taste of him drizzled down my throat. It hit me what he had said when he stepped past me and turned on the vid. Great thing about satellite is you never have to wait for a newscast and there we were, crashing down in all our glory, the commentator droning on about how two terrorists had crash landed in the hills and advising everyone to be alert. This meant the local cops were in on the deal as well at the military and our path to reach our Gundam’s was going to be a major pain in the ass. He had taken the clock radio apart and was working on altering it to pick up cross band communications while we listened. “I’m gonna take a shower,” I told him. A cold one, although I knew I had to stink because he sure did. I couldn’t stop thinking about that kiss and the resultant rise in my jeans. Was I that hard up? I mean sure, I’m a healthy teenage boy but I’ve never really thought about those things before. Damn sure couldn’t get it out of my mind anymore though and the stupid shower wasn’t doing its job. It was incredibly easy to let myself fall into the fantasy of having Hiiro in there with me and I didn’t even think too much about how strange that was at the time. I had to relieve the tension because there was no way in hell I was about to try to explain to him why I had a damn hard on so I let my mind wander. I sure hadn’t expected to come out of that shower with a whole new self-image. Guess I’m gay, at least where Hiiro is concerned at any rate, cause I thought about things I don’t even want to admit to while I was in there, made it a little awkward to face him when I got out. “Anything?” I asked, toweling my hair dry. The static echo of a military code from the crude receiver he had pieced together was answer enough. They were still searching the hills assuming we had beat a path for the nearest landing field. Idiots. Like that wasn’t the first place they would be looking for Gundam pilots. “Leave it down,” he said as I began to braid my hair and I paused to question him with a look. “Those kids might come nosing around,” he reasoned, but I didn’t like it. I am not comfortable with my hair down. It leaves me feeling vulnerable somehow, so I pulled it back in a ponytail just to be agreeable. “We should move while they’re busy chasing ghosts,” he told me and I nodded. His foot had to hurt like a bitch and I was still so damn tired I could have slept for a couple of days but there was no way we could waste the chance at a head start. “Go clean up,” I suggested. “Wash that ankle so we can rebind it before we leave.” It wasn’t much but at least he would be clean and making sure the injury was freshly dressed would help keep away infection. I was relieved when all he did was nod and acquiesce. I monitored the cross band while he showered and was happy to find our path through the foothills would start out relatively unencumbered. There was a little red convertible at the cabin next door that I really wanted to borrow but that would undoubtedly draw someone’s attention. Hiiro would just have to lean on me if things got too tough. He was a little longer in the shower than I thought he would be but his ankle was nice and clean when he came out. The puncture was already scabbing over and swelling was minimal so I packed it and wrapped it and pulled his sock over top of it so it wouldn’t be so noticeable before I realized he had sat there quietly and let me without a single word of objection. Hn. Maybe he was learning to trust me a little after all. “You want a painkiller?” I asked, backing off so he could put his shoe on. “Their anti-inflammatory…” “And can preempt swelling and pain,” he grinned, holding out his hand so I just gave him the bottle. “We need transportation,” I commented, ignoring his attempt to patronize my concern. “I can walk.” “Yeah,” I nodded, stuffing the radio in my bag. “For now, but we’re never going to make it on foot.” “We can find a car once we’re outside the net.” It’s what I had been thinking as well so we packed up, pulled the curtains and put out the do not disturb sign as we headed south. We made it all of fifty feet before the kids that had spotted us earlier bounded out of their cabin and stumbled straight for us the moment they saw us. “Hi there!” the girl giggled. She was a skinny blonde thing with ample breasts she appeared to be quite proud of as they were openly displayed in a string bikini top in spite of the chill. I only got a glance however, as Hiiro snatched me into his arms and kissed me so smoothly I was having trouble recalling my damn name, much less the trouble we were in. My entire body lit on fire faster than the guy could grin and drool at us. “You guys want to join us for a walk?” he asked and I grunted as Hiiro’s hand rounded my ass and squeezed pulling me hard against him. “Thanks, but we prefer to be alone” he smiled over my shoulder, that stupid little smirk on his face informing me that he was very much enjoying the opportunity to mess with my head. So, he was a bit of a sadist. That explained a few things. “Pretty little thing like that,” the guy grinned and I glared at him from beneath my bangs as I wrapped my arms around Hiiro’s neck. “Think I’d keep her all to myself, too.” “Hey!” the blonde whined, latching onto his side and he accepted her, slipping an arm around her tiny waist but his eyes were still checking out Hiiro’s hand on my ass. “Where are you headed?” he asked and I really wished he’d just shut up. “Breakfast,” Hiiro replied. I would have kicked him but it wasn’t going to help with the couple’s façade and glaring just made him grin and squeeze my ass. Bastard. “There’s a diner at the bottom of the hill,” the guy smiled. Joy. “Hey Yeahh!” the girl bubbled and I really wished Hiiro would kiss me again because I had this urge to bite him all of a sudden. “Why don’t we go together?!” she gushed, bouncing excitedly… all over. “I’m afraid we didn’t bring that much cash,” he evaded. “Our treat,” the guy offered, eyeing Hiiro’s hand on my ass again and I really just wanted to scream. How long did he think I could keep this up?! If they got a look at what was going on in the front of my jeans after that kiss we were going to be… wait… shit. No wonder he was laughing at me, he had to have felt the return of my over active libido as he had my crotch crushed against his hip. “Can’t turn down a free meal,” Hiiro grinned, making my stomach turn over. “Great!” the girl chirped. “I’m Darla, this is Ken. Just let me grab our coats,” and she was gone, bounding up the steps while her boyfriend leered at the way Hiiro’s hand slipped in my back pocket. “I need to use the restroom,” I grumbled pushing away from him. “Don’t be long,” he smiled, pulling me back and I squeaked when the SOB kissed me again. The urge to bite him didn’t get into the queue until after he had released me and by then it was way too late. I avoided looking our new friend in the eye by hiding the blush under my hair and hoped the girl kept her makeup bag in the bathroom. I have fairly feminine features but if I was going to have to look them directly in the eye I was going to need a little help. She was in the bedroom presumably changing her shirt when I walked through and I was pleased to find what I needed on the bathroom sink. A little eye makeup and rouge will do wonders to teeter the scales of sexuality, but I had no clue what to do about the ample bulge in my pants. Hiiro was just going to have to stop kissing me or buy me a skirt. The diner was small and located along the only main road out there, a place fugitives like us should have been avoiding at all costs so I had no idea what Hiiro’s game was. He took every opportunity to embarrass, irritate and humiliate me however, going so far as to open doors, lay his hand on my back and peck my cheek or lips whenever possible. As much as my body appeared to like the attention, my mind was about ready to pluck his eyebrows off one hair at a time because there was no way I was going to be able to hide my interest if he kept making it so damn hard. And I mean that in a most literal sense. What he really thought of my inability to control my body’s needs was a mystery other than he seemed to find it very amusing. We were halfway through our bacon and eggs as I tried very hard to tune out Darla’s unending chatter about some trip she’d made to the mall recently when Johnny Law decided to stroll through the front door and I almost choked on my toast. This was such a bad idea it wasn’t even funny and our company’s reaction didn’t help, not one little bit. Ken had to be underage and had a pretty decent buzz, which I had assumed was alcohol related until his eyes dilated and he started to sweat and glace at the door and officer nervously. All we needed was for some idiot with a joint to get caught while we were having breakfast together and Johnny over there was going to end up with a hole in his head. Hiiro’s hand had already gravitated towards his gun. Well, it worked once so I slipped in and laid a quiet kiss on Hiiro’s lips, watching the cop and our companions out of the corner of my eye. Hiiro played along nibbling affectionately on my lower lip, which was a feeling I logged away for another time when things weren’t so crucial as the cop surveying us paused to grin. “You have any luck finding those pilots, Earl?” the woman running the place asked, indicating this guy was a morning regular. I sure hoped he kept his nose clean because if he didn’t all he was going to be was dead. “Naw,” he replied, smiling our way again as Hiiro moved down my neck and sent a damn hot flash down my spine. “Those two probably never survived the crash,” he said, taking a seat at the bar and Hiiro’s hand eased off his gun. “You think so?” the woman replied and the conversation began to get interesting. Earl’s assessment was one of disinterested disregard but that worked for us. If all the cops in this region were as complacent as this guy it would make things a lot easier. Ken and Darla relaxed once the cop was engrossed in his conversation so we finished our meal and listened to Darla jabber on about her cat. I stayed close to Hiiro using my hair to help hide us both from sight while he used our disguise to cuddle and coo me into a freaking puddle of goo. “Are you all right?” he grinned, ignoring Darla’s incessant chatter in favor of hissing in my ear. “Yeah,” I replied, pushing the heat back down. “Just… ease up a bit.” We both got a wake up call when we jumped at the sound of Earl’s voice. “You kids staying up at Charlie’s?” Damn it! How could we have gotten so distracted Billy Bob got the drop on us?! “Yes, Sir,” Ken smiled nervously. “Aren’t you Marty Dawson’s boy?” Earl asked, narrowing his eyes and Hiiro’s hand found his gun again. “Yes, Sir,” Ken replied. “Doin’ a little fishing are ya?” Earl chuckled, eyeing Darla before he turned his attention to Hiiro and I and I wondered if he had a wife and kids that would miss him. “We were just…” Ken began but Earl had the bad taste to cut him off in favor of further endangering himself and directly addressed Hiiro. “Don’t think I’ve seen you around before.” “We just moved here,” Hiiro covered coolly. “Your dad working out at the new plant?’ Earl asked, looking me over more carefully as he rose and stepped closer to our table. Hiiro nodded and drew his gun just clear of its holster behind his back. To anyone watching it looked like he had his arm around my waist and I scooted just a bit closer indicating I would really like to get out of this without having to pop a cap in this guy or lock everyone else in the cellar for an undetermined amount of time. “And what about you, little lady?” he smiled at me. Damn. It’s fairly easy for me to look like a girl but sounding like one is an entirely different matter. However, Hiiro was as astute as ever and cuddled a little closer as he smiled and replied for me. “She’s just here to visit me.” “Oh?” Earl grinned hooking his thumbs in his utility belt which put his hand much too close to his gun for comfort and I felt Hiiro tense. “You know each other for long?” “We’re to be married after graduation,” my partner told him and I felt that lump rise in my throat again. “Getting started a little young aren’t ya?” the man chuckled. “It’s what we want,” Hiiro evenly intoned. “You kids,” Earl sighed, shaking his head. “Always in a hurry,” and I felt myself breathe as he turned and went to pay his tab. “You be careful out there,” the proprietor told him, handing him his change. “This damn war’s getting too close for comfort.” “Don’t worry,” he laughed. “Whoever they are they’re probably holed up in a cave up in the hills somewhere. The grunts’ll find’em,” he assured her, taking his warmed up coffee to go as he slipped out into the sunlight, completely unaware of how close he had just come to being a casualty of war. “Oh my god!” Darla hissed, laughing under her breath. “Shh,” Ken chuckled, looking very relived as well. “I’ve gotta pee,” the girl giggled, pushing her way out from behind Ken who got up to let her out, pausing to whisper something in her ear before she laughed again, nodded and scampered off toward the restroom. “Man!” Ken exclaimed, sitting back down with a thump. “I thought we were dead meat.” “Why?” Hiiro inquired. “Uh… no reason,” the guy shrugged, hiding the fact that they were obviously carrying something illegal very badly. “Excuse me,” Hiiro said, getting up as well and I almost jerked away when he leaned back down and kissed me so he could let me know he was going to go check his gun. Why did he have to tongue me every damn time? “You guys are pretty tight,” Ken grinned the moment Hiiro had left and I suddenly felt very much like a goldfish staring at a cat as I nodded. “To bad,” he sighed as if I would simply smile and agree with him. “I could really go for a classy gal like you.” The guy sure didn’t waste any time. Where in the hell was Hiiro? “You’re pretty shy aren’t you?” he chuckled leaning forward as if to touch my hand and I pulled it away and openly looked for Hiiro again. “Relax,” he smiled. “I’m here. Maybe we could meet up later and…” but his words were cut off by my partner’s sudden return and he got a first hand account of how it feels to be on the receiving end of one of Hiiro’s death glares when he saw how close Ken’s hand was to my side of the table. I saw the shiver run through the creep as he snatched it away, his flustered embarrassment and fear veiled inefficiently when Darla reappeared and bounced into his lap. “Let’s go watch some more satellite,” she purred, chewing on his jaw. “They’ve got all the juicy stuff up at Charlie’s,” she grinned, eyeing Hiiro out of the corner of her painted eye. “You guys want to come?” “No,” Hiiro stated bluntly, ignoring her impudent scowl as he pulled me closer with an arm around my shoulder. “Maybe we’ll catch you later then,” Ken smiled, managing a wink in my direction before Hiiro’s disapproval put a quick end to it and I felt my chest inflate before the voice of reason took a hammer and smashed the feeling to bits. I washed the make up off before we left and had my hair braided the moment we hit the first line of trees. There was a pressing desire to reclaim my manhood that forced my steps a little faster but I couldn’t deny the confusion over Hiiro’s behavior was muddling my mind and that was, in turn, seriously pissing me off. “We need to bank east.” “Why?” I snipped, not really aware of it until after the fact. That whole scene had left me strung tight and in need of skull to crack. “The road veers east,” he reminded me and I waved him off nodding my understanding. The radio had informed us of several roadblocks, one of which was less than two miles away. We needed to go deeper into the woods, woods that were suddenly just all kinds of in my way. Why did there have to be so many damn little vines in the underbrush? I tried cutting back some of the stupid branches that seemed to have no other purpose than to grab my braid but my knives weren’t meant for landscaping and only served to piss me off even more. “Duo.” “What?!” I growled, hacking at a particularly stubborn branch. “I’m sorry.” Well, that put a flame to the rage building inside me real quick. “I shouldn’t have teased you.” “What in the hell was up with that shit?!” I yelled, waving my knife around. “I didn’t think…” “Damn straight you didn’t!” I cut him off. “Walking into a pubic diner in broad daylight?!” “We needed food…” “I had rations!” “They won’t be enough…” “It was unnecessary!” Damn it! I really hate it when he just stands there like some stupid robot and mouths off in that annoying monotone! “It was a calculated risk.” “That almost ended up costing Earl his damn life!” I roared, tossing my knife at a fallen tree in frustration. He was quiet for a time, which gave me a minute to get a hold of whatever had snapped inside me before he simply reiterated, “I’m sorry,” but the sound of his voice had changed. “It won’t happen again,” he promised and I got the definite feeling we weren’t talking about breakfast anymore. I wanted to ask why he had kissed me but what came out was, “See that it doesn’t,” and I jerked my knife out of the tree and got us on our way again.
