" Prince Duo"

Ch 8

When he awoke he found he was having a bit of trouble catching his breath. The sudden heat in his loins told him Duo had a lot to do with it which was confirmed as he opened his eyes to find the boy sitting on top of him. The sight stole what little breath he had left away. It was still night though he could smell the morning’s approach. Duo had released his mane of chestnut hair and it fell around him in a shimmering fall of silk dusting Hiiro’s body with fine tickling sensations as he moved. His eyes were closed tightly as his fingers dug into Hiiro’s chest and he arched into the pleasure he was gaining from the union and it was all Hiiro could do not to end it right then and there.

Absently he recalled their guest from the night before and glanced at the couch where he had been, his absence only serving to fuel the flame Duo had lit in his belly. He arched up, reaching to grasp his thighs and pull him down harder onto his hips. Duo’s eyes opened, soft and glittering with need, the vision proving more than Hiiro could resist and he lunged, flipping their positions to take control and pushing them to ever greater heights. The sun had risen high before he finally relented.

“Mmmm,” Duo groaned, crawling up over him so he could kiss him again. He sighed deeply and lay down and Hiiro laid his hands along his sides, closing his eyes, content to just feel the weight of his body.

“Do you think I’m weak?” Duo asked softly.

Hiiro found the question a bit odd but answered anyway, “No.”

“Am I any less a man for having you as my lover?” the braided boy persisted.

Again, Hiiro didn’t get why he was asking but answered, “No.”

“There was a time,” he went on, “when I would not allow myself the simple pleasures of life. I was afraid… afraid of what others would think.” Hiiro still didn’t get where he was going with this. Neither of them had a problem with that kind of thing. “Afraid that my surrender would give them power over me.” He picked his head up and looked down at his blue eyed lover. “Quatre taught me that there was no reason to deny myself. No one can take anything important from me that I do not freely give.” Hiiro was starting to get the feel of this conversation but he didn’t really have anything to offer so he just kept quiet and thought about what he was saying. He wasn’t asking for Hiiro to lay down for him, he was asking Hiiro to forgive himself for not having been able to prevent the things that had happened to him. He was still deep in thought when the prince leaned down and kissed him. “We need to get going. It’s a week’s journey to the western realm and we have little time.”

“We’re going?” Hiiro gasped.

“Of course,” Duo replied, getting up. “We’re out numbered two to one and they’re much better equipped. If we’re going to win this war we’ll need all the help we can get.”

The first two days of the journey passed by quietly. Duo had taken only a handful of people with them. Mason, Rashid and two of his men and Sally. Cardinal Maxwell had signed a scroll giving the prince the authority to request assistance from their far away neighbors but Duo put little faith in it. If they were to gain the aid they needed he would have to do some fast talking.

After a time the land had flattened out into fast fields under an enormous sky and Hiiro felt as if he could see forever when they crested the top of one of the high slopes. It was late afternoon when Duo sidled up beside him. He thought nothing of it at first but the prince’s silence soon called to him and caused him to turn and look at him quizzically but Duo only smiled sideways in return. Hiiro felt the hair on his neck stand up and rose in his saddle to look back at their company. Mason and Rashid were in conversation some thirty feet behind, his men following along in their wake. Sally was no where to be seen as she tended to wander off on her own. He looked at Duo again and found he was smiling ’that’ smile so he returned the sentiment and began scouting a likely detour.

They soon slipped down a side trail leaving their party to make their way on their own and traveled for a time through the dapple woods in silence until Duo pulled his steed to a halt in a small glen and dismounted. Hiiro followed suit and they made love in the shadow of an old oak tree in a bed of moss and clover. Hiiro loved the way it smelled and made the prince promise not to wash the scent out of his hair before they’d had a chance to enjoy it again.

They caught up with the others before nightfall and helped make camp. The next day they got their first sign that their arrival had been announced by way of a messenger from the western realm. She had been a formidable presence, a strong woman with short, dark hair and a confident manner. Hiiro thought it a bit odd how the woman had looked at Sally and even more strange that Sally had returned the intense stare.

She welcomed them and offered them haven at White Fang Castle then joined them in their journey and Sally stuck with the group for the first time while they told each other of the happenings in both countries. Things were pretty good in the west. King Quintz had found a way of capitalizing on the salve trade by buying huge lots and setting them up in small villages where they lived and paid a tax to him for the use of the land by supplying crops and services. It wasn’t exactly freedom but it was better than the work pits by far. The royals and upperclassmen still kept house and bed slaves, however.

Duo’s face saddened with the news. He had hoped to appeal to the man’s sense of propriety but it looked like silver might be their best bargaining chip.

They took a day to rest once they arrived at the castle. The trip had been long and they all wanted a bath and a decent night’s sleep before they faced the coming negotiations. Duo decided sleep wasn’t the only important thing they needed to catch up on and spent half the night reminding Hiiro he was a lucky man. They got to sleep in the next day as King Quintz couldn’t see them until the afternoon. When they were received the hall was filled with dignitaries and statesmen when they entered. Nothing like the small audiences back home but it seemed to matter little to the prince. He carried himself with the same arrogant swagger as he inclined his head to the people amiably and approached the throne with a graceful ease.

“Good day to you, your Majesty,” he smiled and bowed low. “We are honored to be welcomed to your most gracious home. You’re looking as well and strong as my childhood memories recall.”

Hiiro knew he was just blowing smoke because the man looked as if he had sat on a porcupine. He felt something tighten in his chest as the King looked down his long nose at the boy prince for a long moment. He felt it tighten even further when the man’s mouth curled into a slow grin.

“You are no longer a child, I see,” the king said slowly then motioned to a girl that had been kneeling nearby. She rose quickly and he whispered something in her ear then she scampered away. “I understand there is some unrest in your kingdom?” he asked, picking up his goblet and swirling the contents around as he watched the prince.

“Yes, Sire” Duo replied. “I’m afraid we’re facing an imminent war with Nobara and find ourselves in need of aid. We have come to ask your assistance in this matter.”

“For what cause should I sacrifice the lives of my men?” the king asked and Hiiro definitely did not like the way his eyes hungered.

“I have closed the slave routes,” Duo told him and the King raised a brow though Hiiro wasn’t sure if he was impressed or mocking them. “King Treize is not adverse to change,” Duo went on. “However, he has little means by which to implement a new order. Lord Barton remains in control of the nation’s armies and commodities and has openly refused any new policies. We cannot stand by and allow this to continue. From what I have seen, you are aware or the error of these outdated and barbaric ideas.”

The king nodded his head thoughtfully, glancing over when the girl reappeared and knelt back in her spot. He observed her for a moment then leaned forward motioning for the prince to approach. Duo paused a moment to consider then made the climb up the stairs, stopping on the last.

The king leaned forward further yet and looked him up and down. “We should discuss this in my chambers,” he smiled. “Perhaps there you could convince me that your cause is worth my time.”

Hiiro took a step forward but he was preempted by the sound of Sally’s voice as it cut through the air. “You’re despicable,” she said in strong tone.

The man laughed at her never taking his eyes of the longhaired boy as he sat back in his throne. “And you haven’t changed a bit,” he grinned.

Duo retreated, clearly confused and rejoined Hiiro who made sure he was no less than two inches from him at any given time after that.

“Duo has come to you for help and you treat him like a common whore,” the woman snapped, advancing on the amused King. Hiiro wasn’t so sure this was a good idea but the man did seem to know her so he let it play out.

“Why would I wish to cut off the slave routes?” the King returned. “How does it benefit me? I have no need of your silver or your gratitude,” he told the prince. “You have nothing else to offer me but yourself and I doubt very much I would find even that worth the lives of five thousand of my men.”

“Would you rather Lord Barton control your kingdom?” their dark haired guide, Noin, interjected.

The King considered this a moment then waved a hand in the air. “It is no concern of mine. I have no need of any further slaves.”

“Perhaps,” Sally reasoned. “However, if Barton manages to take that land he’ll also control the sea ports.”

The King’s eyes narrowed. “You always were a shrewd one,” he grinned. “Your mother was hard headed as well.”

“Until you killed her,” the woman spat.

“She knew the law,” he sighed.

“She fell in love,” Sally retorted. Hiiro could see the veins in her neck throbbing.

“She betrayed me,” the King went on. “She belonged in my bed as you yourself are proof of. She was as content as good Noin’s mother until you were born.”

“And where is your mother now?” the blond asked the brunette. Noin dropped her eyes and didn’t answer. “Dead or too worn out from his games to be of any use anymore?” Sally spat, earning a dark glare from her counterpart.

The King laughed and Hiiro and Duo both tensed. Duo didn’t know this man very well. When he had last seen him he was only a child but it didn’t take a genius to figure out that these two girls were the results of his taking bed slaves. It also didn’t take a lot of thought to understand that Sally had opted to flee the country rather than remain a servant to her father. The tension between the half sisters was volatile so Duo decided to intervene.

“Time is of the essence,” he reminded them. “We must prepare for our return. By your leave, Sire,” he said bowing smartly then turned and walked swiftly from the hall with Hiiro and his small entourage in tow.

When they cleared the building he drifted over to Sally side. “What in the hell was that?” he growled.

“None of your business,” the woman returned.

“Do not keep secrets from me,” the prince warned.

“They’re mine to keep,” she retorted.

“Will he help us?”

She didn’t answer for a moment then said, “No, but we might expect some sort of aid from Noin. I’ll speak to her.”

Duo looked at her sideways for a moment then nodded his head and left it at that and they spent the remainder of the day preparing for their departure the next morning.

Hiiro had tried several times to comfort the prince but there seemed to be nothing, not even his tender advances that would settle his mind. He was in the process of trying again when there was a knock at the door. Both boys were already on their guard but nothing could have prepared them for the shock when they found the King himself standing on the other side.

“Your Majesty,” Duo said as he stared open mouthed at the man.

He had two guards with him that took up places on either side of the door as he entered. He looked Hiiro over as he stood behind the prince then crossed the floor and turned to look at them.

“What have you to offer me?” the man asked.

Hiiro saw Duo’s temple twitch. “Forty chests of silver and the gratitude of a King,” Duo replied.

He looked at the two boys a little harder then held out a small scroll. Duo crossed the floor and took it. His eyes widened when he read it. He glanced back at Hiiro as fury erupted in his eyes and tossed the thing into the fire. The King chuckled knowingly then stepped a bit closer. Hiiro felt his heart beat speed up as the man leaned in close enough to whisper something in Duo’s ear. The boy grimaced and tried to pull away but the man had reached up and grabbed him by the upper arms. Duo never got a chance to retaliate. There was a noise then a small crossbow bolt took off the King’s left ear lobe.

The King jumped back holding his injured ear to find one of his guards unconscious on the floor, the other with a sword at his throat and Hiiro standing with a small cross bow in his outstretched hand.

“Touch him again and this realm will need a new King” the blue eyed boy said smoothly.

The man had collected his guards and stormed from the room. Duo had decided it would be better to leave that night. When Hiiro questioned him about the scroll he had told him it had been a bequeath of ownership for Hiiro. Perhaps the man was bored with his station or something the blue eyed boy thought. They had better things to do than play his games.

Sally had insisted on staying until she could talk to Noin but the others all left that night. They traveled until late the following night and slept only a few hours before Duo pushed them to move on. If they thought the pace was grueling before it was nothing compared to what the prince put them through after the second day when a messenger arrived with another of the small scrolls Hiiro had seen in the past. He had deduced that this was how Wufei communicated with the prince. This one had informed them that there were small skirmishes starting along the outer boarders. They were running out of time.

They made the castle in four days only to find that Lady Relena had once again traveled to Nobara to try and negotiate a peace treaty. Duo was obviously worried for her safety but he was too busy preparing their three small armies to let it get to him. It was that night the ransom demand came.

Duo had stared at the parchment in utter horror as he sank down onto the couch. They would make a trade. Lady Relena for the water nymph Quatre Raberba Winner.

He knew. Somehow he had found out.

At first Duo had refused, arguing that they could just go retrieve her but Hiiro had pointed out that they were staring down an army of ten thousand men, not a lonely keep in the middle of nowhere. Reluctantly the prince had invoked the power of the amulet and called on the elves. Trowa and Quatre arrived soon after on the back of Nataku and they all gathered around a fire to discuss what was to be done.

Hiiro felt the same elation he saw in Duo’s eyes as the blond slid from the back of the great beast. He looked good. Delicious in fact. There was a tense moment when Trowa joined him and neither of the boys was quiet sure what to do. They both wanted to snatch the blond up and kiss him silly but things were different now. The tension was suddenly ripped away as Quatre grinned and jumped on Duo, knocking him to the ground and kissing his whole face.

Trowa just chuckled at him. “He missed you,” he said unnecessarily.

“And… I….him,” Duo stammered happily between kisses. He lost control a bit and grabbed the exuberant blond, rolling him over and kissing him soundly for a long moment before he realized what he was doing and pulled back. It wasn’t an easy task with Quatre clinging to him like that. “Sorry,” he offered Trowa with a sheepish grin.

“Quite alright,” the elf smiled. “I could use the break, to be honest. How did you ever keep up with him?”

Duo’s grin about split his face open. Hiiro was feeling a bit light headed himself. “I shared him with him,” Duo told him before accepting another kiss from the blond boy.

“Hm,” Trowa replied looking at Hiiro appraisingly. “Perhaps I will get some sleep tonight after all,” he grinned and Hiiro grinned right back. He had turned to his mount when he was tackled by a bundle of raw energy that seemed intent on sucking his tonsils out but he didn’t complain.

“Perhaps you should relive the tension before we attempt a civil conversation,” the elf suggested, going to tend the fire.

Duo looked like he had just been handed a whole jar of jellybeans. “You’re serious?” he asked uncertainly as his eyes darted to the boys lying in the grass. Hiiro had his hands down the back of Quatre’s pants as he straddled him and was doing a fine job of licking the back of his throat.

“He slept in your bed for two years with my knowledge,” Trowa returned. “I don’t expect him to be anything but what he is. Besides, he deserves a little play time. It’s been very hard on him being separated from you.”

Duo grinned even bigger. “He can come visit anytime he likes!” he gushed then headed over to join his companions. Wufei took a walk with Nataku to pass the time but Trowa decided to stay and watch. Duo and Hiiro didn’t really notice until things started to calm down.

When they did Duo just raised an eye brow at the grinning elf. “You’re an odd one,” he said, collapsing back into the grass.

The elf just smiled at him. His brow furrowed when he saw Hiiro roll over on top of the blond and start a second round. After what he had just seen the exotic boy put his companions through he had to wonder if he was the odd one of the bunch. It took another forty five minutes before they fell panting in a heap again.

“Enough,” Wufei’s voice called as he reentered the glen. “We have work to attend to,” he reminded them.

“Ah, yes,” Duo sighed happily. “Work... let’s see... oh yes.. Lady Relena’s rescue and Barton’s demise.” Quatre yelped as he pinched his ass and Hiiro grunted as he was still inside him.

“If he is aware of who you are,” the elf said to his ward as he extracted himself and crawled over to lay his head in his lap, “then he must die.”

“It won’t be easy,” Wufei observed. “He’s well protected by his armies at this point. We’ll need to draw him out somehow.”

“I can draw him out,” Quatre grinned, playing with the inside seam of Trowa’s trousers.

“No,” Trowa smiled down at him, tweaking his nose. He rolled his head over and bit down firmly on the elf’s thigh, a move that only served to send a glittering sparkle through the boy’s green eyes.

“We cannot let Relena die,” Duo informed them. “She is imperative to the future of this Kingdom.”

“Then what?” Wufei wondered.

Trowa closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “How much …time do we...have… Quatre… That’s distracting.” The blond giggled and continued to chew on his inseam.

“Till dawn to reply,” Duo supplied. Quatre’s teasing was distracting him and Hiiro as well as the light brush of the exotic boy’s fingertips on the small of his back was reminding him. “Its up to us to set a time for the exchange,” he said softly, watching the blond move from the little wet spot on Trowa’s lower thigh to start another one on his upper.

The elf took another deep breath and slipped his hand down the back of the boy’s shirt but did nothing to stop him while Hiiro’s fingers slipped a couple of inches lower on Duo’s back then the fire suddenly exploded. They all jerked back shocked and looked up into the fiery green eyes of the dragon as she snickered at them from above.

“Could we at least finish the plan before you all indulge yourselves again?” their raven haired companion asked, looking quiet smug as he stroked the dragon’s neck.

“Oi!” Quatre exclaimed, picking himself up from the ground where he had ended up. “Honestly, Fei,” he said, strolling over toward the boy as he brushed bits of grass and earth from his hastily replaced clothes. “All we have to do is get him to agree to do the exchange on the turning of the moon two nights hence.” He knelt down in front of him and smiled. “You deliver me to him in the pass above the falls and take Lady Relena,” he explained as he leaned in very close to Wufei’s face and suddenly the Chinese boy was having a little more trouble keeping his composure. “And I’ll join you,” he purred as he brushed his lips over his mouth. “In the lake once it’s done,” he whispered, kissing him softly.

Wufei sat for a moment and just let him kiss him. Nataku slipped her tongue out and brushed it up the blond’s back causing him to hiss as the raven haired boy finally gave in and wrapped him in his arms, deepening the kiss.

Duo’s eyes flashed on Trowa to find him leaning back comfortably with that odd little grin on his face and for the first time he was glad the elf had decided to take the boy as he truly seemed to understand his nature.

“Sounds like a plan to me,” Duo chirped. “We done?” he added, turning to his lover with a bright smile.

“If you say so,” Hiiro replied.

“Wufei,” the prince called. “Wufei!” he tired again. The fire exploded again, landing Quatre on his rump and setting the raven haired boy’s eyes like diamond as he glared at his grinning demon. She puffed smoke out from between her teeth at him then licked Quatre’s back in apology.

“Yeah, yeah,” the blond said, getting up and rubbing his bottom.

“We’re agreed then?” Duo asked the group. “We exchange Quatre on the turning of the moon.”

“Agreed,” they all said in unison.

The prince got up and went to retrieve a scroll from his saddle bag while Quatre returned to Trowa and plopped down sulkily in his lap but the elf just chuckled and kissed his temple while Duo wrote their response and tossed it to Wufei.

“I’ll return in the morning with the reply,” he assured them, mounting his dragon and taking off into the night sky.

When Duo returned his attention to his companions he couldn’t help but grin. Hiiro was captivated by the sight of the elf stretched out on the grass while the blond unlaced his trousers with his teeth. Trowa groaned softly and opened his bright green eyes as he laced his long fingers into the boy’s mop of blond hair. “Sleep is overrated,” he said with that little grin Duo was beginning to like a whole lot.

Hiiro was beginning to like this elf himself. He had a little imp in him that reminded him of Duo a little bit. And the fact that he understood their affection for Quatre made him happy in ways he didn’t really understand. He smiled as he slid his hand up the back of the prince’s leg, drawing him down into the grass as they watched the blond push his lover ever higher.
