" Prince Duo"

Ch 10

It didn’t take long to finish the climb to the pass. When they came into view of the rocky crag they saw a small cage tethered to a rope that lead to the high cliff on the opposite side of the river. There was a second rope stretched tight beside it that proved to be attached to another small cage on the other side. Barton had built a sky trolley for the exchange. He was playing it very safe and this complicated things.

They could see Relena in the cage as Barton stepped up beside it. She looked no worse for the wear though Duo could see her scowl even from a distance. The man’s face lit up when he saw Quatre flitting around the boys below. Hiiro was doing some fast talking with Trowa as they opened the line of communication.

“Send the boy up!” Barton called down.

“Send the girl down!” Duo countered. He wasn’t stupid and the man knew it. He was just pissing with him.

“Where is the dragon, boy?” Barton asked, laying one hand on Relena’s cage and pushing it over the edge to dangle precariously in the air. She gasped and looked down the hundred foot drop below her.

Duo tensed but didn’t show it while Nataku suddenly splashed down in the river some fifty yards up stream and hissed.

Several archers stepped forward from the bushes and aimed their bows at Relena’s cage. “Together then,” Barton called down.

“No!” Duo heard Trowa snap in a hushed voice behind him and turned to see what was going on. Hiiro rolled his eyes in frustration. “He’ll drown. I’ll not loose him over this girl,” the elf growled.

“Calm down,” the prince told the agitated elf. “He can’t drown once the moon turns He’s a water nymph remember?”

“No,” Trowa said again. “I won’t chance it... I can’t... Quatre!” he shouted as the blond had crawled into the cage and was already on his way up.

“Shit!” Duo barked then turned to Hiiro. “It’s too soon. We’ve gotta stall them.”

Nataku crouched low in the river waiting for an opportunity, Wufei’s sharp eyes aiding her in her need as the two cages drew near to each other. Relena looked at the blond in wonder as he approached. She had never seen him like this before. He blew her a kiss and smiled as Trowa’s voice cut through the air again.

“Quatre!”

Duo struggled to hold the elf in check, but he was incredibly strong. The braided boy knew it was his uncertainty more than his own efforts that were holding him back. It only took two words to bring him back under control.

“Trust him.”

Trowa stepped back and nodded then, his green eyes locked on the ascending cage as he notched an arrow.

Duo looked to the rising moon as it hung in the sunset sky. “We need time,” he hissed.

Hiiro paused and took in the scene. Without another thought he drew his small cross bow and shot Nataku in the ass. The bolt glanced off her diamond hide but it stung like a bitch and set her off. She roared furiously spitting fire a hundred feet in the air then launched herself at the cliff side where Barton and his men were.

The archers raised their bows but Barton shouted for them to hold because the cages were too close together and they might hit the boy. The trolley screeched as the pulleys gave way under the strain of the earth quake caused by the massive form of the dragon as she collided with the rocky cliff and dangled mid way.

Trowa screamed the blond’s name again and started to climb the rope only to have Duo snatch him back down again. “Trust him!” he barked. “We have to get Relena out of there!”

The elf looked to his lover dangling above the river once more then nodded again. Duo could see the conflict in his eyes and understood exactly how he felt but Relena was the most helpless at the moment. They had to get her down.

Nataku roared again as she lit up the tree line, sending the archers scrambling for cover deeper in the trees. Barton was frantically trying to get the trolley moving again but she didn’t dare cook him for fear of cutting the lines that held the cages. There was a sudden explosion and a net flew up out of the trees encompassing her and her lover as they fell but Wufei set about cutting her free before they hit the ground.

Hiiro was half way up the rope to Relena’s cage by then, climbing hand over hand as Barton shouted for his archers to shoot him but each time one stepped up to aim he fell to either one of Trowa’s deadly arrows or Duo’s lethal aim.

The exotic boy ripped the cage open and extracted the girl, having her hold him around the neck and shoulders as he prepared to bring them back down. Quatre was smiling, seemingly unconcerned with the entire affair. He winked at him saucily as he flipped his leather belt over the rope and began their descent sliding down the rope quickly and landing on the ground in a heap.

Barton howled with rage. Wufei was making progress with the net but hadn’t gotten it off yet. Hiiro and Relena scrambled to their feet and joined Duo as he turned his attention to the blond in the cage. Trowa was hyperventilating.

Duo glanced at the moon and smiled.

“It’s over,” he shouted up at the man on the cliff.

“He’s mine!” Barton bellowed, motioning for one of his archers. The soldier stepped up with a fire tipped arrow and took aim at the rope on the prince’s side of the river.

“Now!” the prince shouted.

Quatre suddenly sprang to life, his cage swaying from the rope as he moved around inside. Barton’s face fell as he watched the boy’s form fade to translucency and Hiiro made a mental note that he was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen in his life. For the span of a moment the blond existed in neither this realm of reality nor that. His form was still there as they all knew him but he had gone completely transparent, glistening in the fading rays of the sun as the moon shown down her gentle beams and washed him in star dust. Trowa fell to his knees in awe of the sight. He had obviously not known the extent of this part of the boy’s life. A moment later he was gone. Nothing more than a gentle drip of crystal water that fell to the river below.

“HA!” Duo barked as they all mounted their steeds, Relena doubling with Hiiro. “You will never prevail over us!” he shouted up at the man as he stood there seething in defeat. “The fates will not allow it,” he added, laughing as they rode away.

Barton scrambled back into the trees as Nataku began to pull free of the net and was gone by the time she set the woods on fire.

Duo pulled up close to Hiiro as they rode to the shore of the lake below at top speed. “It’s gonna get hot,” he warned before veering off and heading for Trowa. Hiiro wasn’t quite sure what he meant but it put him on his guard just the same.

Nataku buzzed them once as they neared the shore and Hiiro got his first clue as to what ‘hot’ meant when he saw the blond lazily swimming around naked in the clear water. He was off his horse and half way into the water before Duo caught and restrained him.

“Patience,” the prince grinned. “Quatre?”

“Hmm?” the blond hummed softly, coming to swirl around their legs.

“It’s time to go home,” Duo told him gently.

“Ok,” he sighed.

Hiiro swallowed hard when he stood up and headed for Trowa and his mount. He took a step toward him only to have Duo’s hand reach out to stop him as he repeated, “Patience.”

“How do you stand it?” the exotic boy asked at they remounted.

“I didn’t,” Duo admitted. “At least not on this level. The stone prevented him from turning full circle like this. I guess Trowa didn’t know.”

They watched as Quatre slipped up into the elf’s lap and Trowa was gone before their lips met. Duo grinned and took the reins and Hiiro fell in behind them in case they fell off as he led them into the safety of the forest.

The prince had considered this contingency and planned accordingly. If they didn’t want to loose the blond to the river forever they had to make him want to stay with them until he reverted back in the morning. There was only one way to do that but none of them were having a hard time volunteering for the task. Wufei had returned Relena to her home then joined them, albeit reluctantly. It was for the greater good after all. Not even Hiiro had the stamina to keep up with the blond on a night like this and Nataku hung around to make sure no one but the blond boy touched her lover.

They spent the night in a cave near the center of the forest, each taking their turn distracting their friend until he began to solidify again. It turned out to be one of the best nights of Hiiro’s young life. The residual effects from Quatre had left him wanting Duo so badly he had taken him several times as well. They were all exhausted by morning but it was a good exhaustion that left them all feeling content and ready to face whatever the world might throw at them.

They got their first chance to catch it when they returned to the castle only to be informed Barton’s army was on the move and headed right for them. The rest of the day was spent in a mad scramble to finish preparing for the coming battle.

Trowa had taken Quatre and returned to his forest to collect his band. They weren’t many but one elf’s bow was worth ten men. They would be valuable to the fight but no one was kidding themselves about the odds.

The sun had set and the fires were lit when they heard the battle horns blow. Barton’s army had gathered around the walls of the palace with the catapults, harpoons and latch ladders that would aid them in their quest.

Sally’s forces had joined them in spite of her absence. No one had heard from the woman since they’d left her in the west. Some presumed her dead. Rashid’s small army helped guard the wall with Duo’s men.

They held them off for while with the help of Nataku as she buzzed by and lit up their ranks but even she had to be cautious and had almost taken a harpoon in the belly more than once. It wasn’t long, however, before the sheer number of them began to take its toll. The pre-dawn light was showing in the sky when the gates gave way.

Barton’s men sounded the advance and the man himself led them inside. He wasted little time locating Quatre and set about the task of capturing the boy.

Hiiro and Trowa had taken the blond deep inside the castle to the lower floors. Barton and his men had pursued them relentlessly until they found themselves cornered in the bath chambers under the castle.

“He’s mine,” Barton hissed as his men advanced on Hiiro and the elf. They stood their ground protecting the slight blond as he stood behind them near the deep pool of water.

Barton’s eyes flashed on the glistening pool. “He can’t do it again,” he sneered. “The time has past. Surrender him and I’ll make your deaths quick and painless.”

The sudden sound of another battle horn split the air and Duo stepped into the room. “I think that’s the calvary,” he quipped as Sally and Noin followed signifying the presence of reinforcements and he grinned as he informed them, “You’re defeated. Lay down your weapons.”

Barton’s men looked uncertain. There was no reason to die if that were the case but Barton’s eyes fogged over as he glared at Quatre. “He’s mine!” he roared and lunged for the boy. Hiiro and Trowa side stepped and let him pass right by. He slammed into the blond, knocking them both into the pool and came up spitting and holding him tight to his chest with a knife at his throat.

Hiiro stepped casually up to the edge and leaned on his sword looking down at him. Barton’s face turned pale as the boy’s blue eyes glittered and his mouth turned up in a decidedly evil grin.

Something brushed by the man’s leg, something warm, and enticing that sent a shiver up his spine. He had released Quatre before he even knew what had hit him. The blond boy sank into the water and swam about lazily watching the show.

The man’s eyes slide shut as a warm wave of ecstasy washed over him. The boys watched as the surface of the water in front of him slowly rose up and examined his blissful face then Barton gasped softly just before the tendril kissed him and they slowly sank under the surface. His face was disappearing beneath the glistening water when he finally realized he couldn’t breathe and started to flail about. Trowa extracted Quatre from the pool as they watched the man sink from sight and disappear down the channels that fed the baths from the underground springs. Barton’s men dropped their weapons and surrendered on the spot.

“Remind me to send your cousin a gift,” Duo told the smiling blond.

“You only have one thing she would like and I won’t let her have that,” Quatre snipped.

It took two days to clean up the place so that it resembled its former glory. The damaged gate and wall would take awhile but at least the dead were buried and things were getting back to some order and King Treize had taken the opportunity to enact some new policies in his kingdom. Slavery would soon be a thing of the past in this part of the world.

Duo had spent some time in Relena’s company but he refused to divulge what it was all about even to Hiiro. He knew the boy’s birthday was coming soon which meant his coronation was at hand and decided it must have something to do with that.

Wufei hadn’t been seen since the battle ended but Trowa and Quatre had decided to stay for awhile and help with the clean up. A fact that made both Duo and Hiiro giddy with delight. The morning of the fourth day and two weeks until the prince’s birthday dawned with the four dog piled in Duo’s bed. As much as Hiiro loved waking up like this he was beginning to look forward to the day he would wake up and find only Duo in his arms. Still, looking down on the blond’s face warmed his belly and made him forget that thought for the next half hour or so.

He was still forgetting it when someone knocked on the door and woke his companions.

“What?” Duo called sleepily, moving to kiss Hiiro as he moved in harmony with the blond boy.

“Forgive me, Sire,” a man’s voice called from the other side of the door. Trowa scooted up behind Duo and spooned him kissing his neck. Duo groaned and pushed back into the elf. “But we have word that King Quintz is on his way here.”

Duo’s head popped up. “When will he arrive?”

“Two days”

“Oh,” the braided boy replied relaxing a little. “Alright, thank you,” he added, going back to kissing Hiiro while he continued to pleasure the blond.

“Shouldn’t we get up and deal with this?” Trowa asked, tightening his hold on the prince’s hips.

“N...no hurry,” the longhaired boy groaned, pushing back into him again. “Hiiro,” he breathed then let the exotic boy kiss him again as he hissed as the elf entered his body. Hiiro had been adverse to this at first but had loosened up a lot as he had gotten to know the elf. Of course, Trowa’s willingness to surrender to him didn’t hurt either.

It was late afternoon when Hiiro fell breathlessly into Duo’s shoulder. Quatre and Trowa were curled up on the small couch by the fire munching on tid bits from their leftover lunch.

“What do you suppose Quintz wants?” Trowa asked once they seemed able to speak again.

“Retribution,” Duo gasped as he still wasn’t quiet able to breath properly yet.

“But he didn’t send his army,” Quatre argued. “Noin brought only volunteer’s that have since sworn fealty to you.”

Duo groaned as Hiiro moved inside him, preening that last little bit of pleasure from the boy’s over heated body as he kissed his neck. “Y…yes but... he won’t see it... that way.” Hiiro was moving a little more briskly now.

“What do you feed that boy?” Trowa asked, grinning at them.

“I ...have no... idea,” Duo grunted as his lover picked up the pace again.

“You must tell me your lineage sometime,” the elf intoned.

“Hiiro...son of Odin… son of Marian...Hachi... Satsuga…” each name was accompanied by another brutal assault on the braided boy beneath him.

“Satsuga?” Trowa interrupted.

“You know him?” Quatre asked.

“A legend only” the elf replied. “He was said to have been a supreme warrior in the Yui Dynasty.”

Duo suddenly screamed.

“That would explain a lot,” Quatre grinned.

Hiiro rolled off Duo as they desperately gasped for air. “I think,” Duo panted. “I need a bath.”

“I’ll go,” the blond chirped.

“We’ll all go,” Trowa smiled and kissed his nose.

Hiiro was washing the prince’s long hair before they picked up the conversation again.

“Maybe he wants to strike a deal now that we have full control over the ports,” Trowa suggested.

“More likely he wants to force us out of control and take them for himself,” Hiiro countered adding, “Rinse,” as he pushed the prince’s head under the water.

Trowa sighed softly and laid his head back, closing his eyes.

“How long can he hold his breath?” Hiiro asked, grinning as he rubbed the lather from Duo’s hair.

“A lot longer than Duo,” Trowa chuckled.

Quatre’s head popped up out of the water and asked petulantly, “What are you laughing at?”

“Not you, my light,” the elf told him, pulling him in for a kiss. Quatre sank onto his lap and returned the affection full steam.

Duo emerged and grinned at them. “Why don’t you two move into the castle?” he suggested.

Hiiro didn’t know how to feel really. He very much enjoyed their company but he was starting to pine a little for some quiet time with the prince.

“I have duties in the forest,” Trowa reminded him.

“Well then at least come spend the summer,” the braided boy countered.

Trowa smiled and pulled Quatre down on his lap and the boy hissed and bent to kiss him again as they started to move and Hiiro smiled. He could live with that.

“Don’t you guys ever stop?” Wufei’s voice broke the silence as he strolled into the bath chamber grinning at them.

“And what point would there be to that?” Duo retorted. “What news?”

“Grave,” the raven haired boy said as his mood sobered. “Quintz means to take the castle.”

“What?” Duo gasped.

“He had a small force with him, enough to look as though he’s merely protecting himself, but I’ve seen his army two days behind. He means to take this land for his own.”

“That bastard,” Quatre growled.

“Inform Rashid and Sally,” the prince said, climbing out of the bath with Hiiro in his wake.

Trowa started to follow but found himself pinned in place by his lap dog. “We’ll catch up,” he grinned, settling back down in the water.

“We’ll be in the main hall,” Duo told them as they exited the room.

“What are you up to?” the elf asked his ward. He had never known the boy to push things this far before. They were needed elsewhere.

“That’s what I’d like to know,” Quatre replied. “Duo’s up to something and he’s not telling us.”

“He must have his reasons,” the elf offered. Quatre was still sitting on his lap so he decided to take advantage of the situation and began to move again.

Quatre moaned softly and accepted his fate. “He’s never kept secrets before,” he grumbled.

“Trust him,” Trowa whispered, reaching up to kiss him again.
