is simply a matter of compromise. " Other Lover" Ch 3 “I’m afraid he canceled,” Quatre informed me when I asked after the missing portions of our five pilot entree. “It seems Wufei was called away on an emergency mission,” Trowa elaborated though I failed to see how this would incapacitate Duo. “I don’t really understand,” Quatre sighed as his delicate white fingers gently grasped a crystal glass of red, red wine. There is something intrinsically provocative in the slow consumption of vermillion spirits by the softly pouting, pale pink lips of a gossamer blond. “He could have come alone.” “Maybe the mission upset him,” Trowa consoled; quite comfortable in the soothing caress he offered his mate’s softly pulsating neck. “If it were that dangerous we would’ve known about it,” Quatre sighed, showing his gratitude for the touch by absently nuzzling the sensitive knuckles gently grazing his perfectly white skin. Watching them made me long for Duo in a way that spun webs of history and long life in my mind’s eye. “Maybe I should drop by and check on him,” I suggested. “Would you?” Quatre smiled innocently, refilling my glass. “It’s so nice to have you back,” he added, marking the target of my heart with a guilty flare. “We’ve all missed you but I think your absence was very hard on him.” Do tell? “You two were so close during the wars.” And after. There were many times I longed for another for no other reason than to command him to kick me in the ass for my foolishness. An entire year we had spent hit and miss, working together, eating, sleeping and all the while my damnable pride held us parallel, never crossing, only watching from over there. Never knowing because he was there and that was enough. Such was no longer the case. “If you’re worried I could go now,” I offered, masking my desire to do just so admirably I thought. “I suppose it is getting late,” he smiled, seeming relieved. I thanked them for dinner and declined the offer to return and stay the weekend, full amenities and all the room service I could possible stand set aside in favor of stumbling up Duo’s stairs. It was a small house but a house just the same. Whoever’s idea the iron fencing was should be whipped severely however, as it gave the shotgun domicile the omnipotent feel of a church, something I knew would serve no other cause but to give Duo raging nightmares. Tasty pick Chang. “Hiiro?” The gasping quality of his tone settled quickly in between my heart and loins making it ever more difficult to set aside my feelings for him and concentrate on the more pressing matter of his current state of mind. All this had to be playing hell with his blood pressure. “Quatre thought I should stop by,” I smiled; backing down the steps in what I hoped was a disarming fashion. “He was worried. Thought maybe Wufei’s mission was upsetting you.” He stared for a moment, perplexity on his lips and brow, then sighed heavily and backed way from the softly glowing entry. “Come on in,” he invited but his tone bade me stay. “I was just on my way home.” “It’s all right,” he smiled, urging me forward. “We need to have a talk anyway.” Contradiction. I was being willingly gifted with entry to his abode where he was, at that moment, abiding utterly alone. However, the impending ‘talk’ wrapped tightly around my heart and threatened with steely thorns to render it useless for the reminder of my worldly existence. I entered, but stood upon the threshold, unsure if it were heaven or hell I had stumbled into. “Is Wufei in danger?” I asked, unsatisfied with the darkness in his eyes. “He’s moving a transport from Z12 to L3.” I raised a brow. “It was all he could come up with on short notice,” he sighed, sinking into a deep chair that looked as if it might swallow his small frame whole. I felt a little responsible for his sorry state of mind. “I’m sorry,” I offered, daring to step a little deeper into my future, be it happy or sad. “I tried to decline tactfully but Trowa wouldn’t hear of it.” “I know,” he sighed, motioning for me to sit on the matching couch to his chair but I only dared the edge for fear I might never escape. “I overheard the invitation. It’s not really your fault. Fei’s just…” “Jealous.” “No,” he mused, wiping a hand over his face. “Just… uncertain. We haven’t been at this for very long.” “It is not my intention to hurt him.” I needed for him to understand that point as my future actions would no doubt have great potential to do just that. “Pft,” he snorted. “He’s used to pain, just like the rest of us.” True. “I guess he just wants to know where he stands.” “As do I,” I smiled, hoping he wouldn’t feel pressured to answer the question since he couldn’t have known. His eyes fell to a place where his fingers picked at the rough surface of a blanket that was draped over the arm of his chair before elegant lips confessed, “I think his leaving today was a test.” Intriguing. “On what subject?” I asked, moving with swift but controlled desperation toward him. His eyes flickered, a momentary glance shouting that he was well aware of my advance yet he made no move to stop me. “You.” “Could you honestly be expected to sit an exam without having studied the material?” His legs slipped smoothly from beneath a perfectly curved buttocks spreading enticingly as I smoothly settled my masculine form between his thighs. “No.” It was an invitation as much as anything I had ever heard, one that tugged my good sense from my ears and sent it scurrying for the shadows as I laid my weight securely upon him and took his mouth as my own. There was no hesitation in him, something that both thrilled and surprised me. None may ever say that Duo Maxwell has ever been untrustworthy in any way so I could only believe whatever was between himself and our Chinese friend bore no binding ties that would require his resistance. However, I myself was quickly overwhelmed. “Duo?” I gasped, heavily and with lascivious intent. My hands had wrapped themselves deliciously about his softly undulating body, hips grinding down on the firmness reflected in his loins. “I’ve wanted you for so long,” he hissed desperately, fingers gripping, tugging to expose flesh to hungry eyes. “And Wufei?” He was so hot, molten flesh over a core of explicit flame and I wanted to drown in his heat. “He knows,” he gasped, wriggling out of his pants and presenting me with the single most erotic fantasy of my entire life. He wanted, no expected me to take him. It made me long for a time when our roles would be reversed but in essence I am a dominant soul. In the whole of the matter such things were irrelevant as long as he was with me, but to have my most secret desire offered up willingly, demanded as fulfillment of his deepest need confirmed the certainty of our destiny together and I filled him with finger and cock until he pleaded and screamed for mercy. Several times. By morning’s light there was not a place in the home he shared with Chang Wufei that had not hosted our carnal journey. We moved from the chair to the couch where I cleaned the mess I had made of him away before slowly making a puddle of that deep, cushioned seat as well. Having ruined it as well my efforts to cleanse him of our animalistic coupling landed us in the shower where we made very good use of Chang’s bath oil until the hot water ran low and forced us to vacate. All this extra effort soon reminded me that the dainty dinner I had shared with Trowa and Quatre had been hours ago before we retired to the kitchen where we made omelets while standing naked over the stove. This having ended up with my bending him over the small table set against the wall left our eggs cold but we ate them anyway before I took him to bed and worshiped him body and soul until the his voice had given out and the sun was neigh to rise. There was only one question on my mind. “Did you pass or fail?” He snickered drunkenly then kissed me and snuggled down into my arms. At this point I was unconcerned with his score and merely wanted to hold him close to me for a while. Sleep seemed an abhorrent demon come to steal my joy away but not even I can withstand the sandman’s insistence forever, especially after the heady results of the night before and I soon felt myself slide away into oblivion. “What the fuck are you doing?” had not been what I expected to arise to hear but it was fairly obvious the question wasn’t meant for me when I realized Chang was standing at the dresser packing a bag. “Things have changed.” “So you’re just gonna bail?” Duo snipped, slipping out of our … their bed to jerk on a pair of silky black boxers. “You expect me to stay?” He was so calm. “Did I ask you to leave?” What was he talking about? Hadn’t we come to an understanding? Wufei’s eyes shifted from him to me and back again before he dropped his bag on the dresser and exited the room. “Fei!” Duo went after him. Hn. This didn’t seem like something I should miss so I hauled my ass out of bed and toddled after them, sheet draped around my naked hips and coffee on my mind. “…understand what you want,” Wufei was saying. “Bullshit!” Duo retorted. I was ignored for the most part as I made my way to the cabinet and fetched a goodly portion of caffeine. “You slept with him,” Chang reasoned. “So what?!” Duo challenged, stopping my hand where it poured water into the maker for a moment. “It didn’t bother him that I’ve polished your knob before!” True. “Again,” Wufei sighed. “I do not understand what you want from me.” “I don’t want you to leave!” Duo snapped. “You would rather Hiiro retreat?” “No.” Wufei looked to me for some odd reason that I could only shrug at. I offered him the first cup of java which he took with a grateful sigh. “I believe,” I stated succinctly, turning to offer Duo one of the other two cups in my hand. “This is the moment when you are required to choose.” He studied the pair of us for a moment, his gaze calculating and clever, then took the proffered mug of morning fortitude and boldly declared, “I don’t want either of you to leave.” A most intriguing paradox. “You want us to…share your affections?” Wufei wanted clarification. “Whatever,” Duo grumbled, going in search of sugar. “I just don’t want you to leave, that’s all.” Honesty in its purest form. Gods I do love him so. “If that will make you happy,” I smiled, loving the shining stars that twinkled in his beautiful eyes. “Such a thing can only lead to misery,” Wufei commented, stealing the brilliant light from his eyes. I was very put out. “The alternative being breaking his heart now?” I inquired. “Listen,” Duo sighed, setting his half empty mug down. “I’m not proposing we get into some lewd, raunchy affair and bump uglies morning noon and night. I just know I care a lot about both of you. I don’t want to loose that.” “Our remaining friendship is not contingent upon sexual contact,” Wufei reasoned. “Fine,” Duo grumbled. “So maybe I’d rather not forfeit the ugly bumping completely. Damn it, can’t you guys just throw me a bone? There’s just no way for me to win in this otherwise.” As much as I would have liked to do just that it struck me then that he was right. His was a heart torn asunder; Wufei had obviously been there when he needed someone very badly whereas I had escaped on wandering soles. The fact that I had been accepted into his life and bed was a miracle in itself, so as much as I would have liked to have had his heart utterly ensnared, my absence had made that impossible. The alternative; share for the sake of his happiness. “Do you want to leave?” I asked the sullen Chinese boy at my side. “No,” was his curt reply. “Then it’s settled,” I smiled. “He wants us to stay and neither of us intends to leave but,” I added, looking around the tiny kitchen. “We’ll need a bigger house.” “You’re arrogance is incomprehensible.” “Be nice,” Duo scolded, though perhaps Chang’ assessment was not undeserved. “You don’t agree this house is too small?” I evaded the subject of my self worth, exercising my newfound right to cuddle, coddle and otherwise woo our braided center by wrapping my sheet clad body gently around his mostly naked form. Wufei scowled and summarily departed. “Fei!” And Duo. Damn, and all before the breakfast toll. Regardless of Wufei’s reluctance to accept the changes in his life I was determined to remain an active reality in Duo’s and set about making myself useful while he attempted to placate his agitated lover, the one not being me as I was simply annoyed, in their, (our ?) bedroom which no doubt reeked of passionate pungency. A quick search turned up three left over eggs from the night before, half a loaf of bread and, to my great delight, a small steak that was frozen solid but the gracious tenants had seen fit to provide a handy microwave that made short work of the cold cut. With minimal effort I managed to tie my sheet in a dashing configuration much resembling the ancient robes of the Greeks and set about replacing the sultry aroma of the house with the savory scents of steak and eggs. There was a small vid station bolted conveniently under the cabinet nearest the fridge that happily supplied facts and figures pertaining to the day ahead and all the happenings of the night before, the only relatively entertaining portion of the programming being a small bit on a woman that had fallen out of her second story window, her scarcely present and very frilly teddy bear nighty becoming tangled in a tree as she reached for her wayward pussy leaving her to hang, for the most part, upside down until a rescue crew arrived. I laughed out loud thinking of how Duo might have dealt with the situation and set three plates upon the small table as I wondered if perhaps my companions had forgotten their sense of smell. Duo, I knew without a doubt, had to be famished, our impromptu snack having left my stomach completely. “Duo?” The first lesson learned when multiply involved with a beautiful, compassionate young man who, by chance, happens to possess the audacious ability to charm a blue sky pale pink: Knock. “Sorry!” “Hiiro?!” his muffled voice came from beyond the slammed door but my mind was still flashing a three image slide show, firstly of Duo’s startled expression, second the tawdry vision of he and Wufei engaged in a deeply consummate kiss, and lastly, and most disturbingly, Wufei’s solid body shimmering with deep gold perspiration where he hung above him. “Wait!” “I made breakfast.” It was all I could think of to say and delivered to his emerging presence while I made a hasty retreat back into the relative safety of the kitchen. Breath seemed a stranger for a moment as I took hold of the counter, the torrid memories of our time together during the midnight hour tearing a ragged hole in the resolve so newly born in the dawns light. I wanted to kill Chang Wufei. “Hiiro?” His voice so uncertainly soothing, frightened, utterly bewitching. “I’m afraid it won’t keep,” I replied, feigning consonance. “Are you all right?” “Not really.” I truly wished a lie could have slithered from my lips but my heart was unyielding in its determination to remain true to its one true love. “Damn it,” he sighed, teetering depressingly to lean precariously against the wall. “I’m sorry,” he groaned softly, dropping his inordinately mussed head back. “I’m totally at a loss as to how to deal with all this.” He was exhausted. It showed with blinding clarity in his limbs, eyes and downtrodden expression and I saw my concern mirrored in Wufei’s gaze when he slowly came into view. “Perhaps we could start with breakfast?” I smiled, though it only affected one side of my mouth. He managed to curl both left and right though the grin was frightfully wan and we, the three of us, sat in their, our terminally inadequate kitchen, I in my makeshift toga, Duo sporting the silken black boxers that seemed to serve him so well and Chang with the matching bottom sheet to my top draped over his muscular form. The eggs were disastrously cold but we ate them anyway before I excused myself to use the shower. Chang’s discomfort with this link in the chain of events of his life was evident but he held his tongue. When I returned, showered, shaven, though I will discreetly mention I have not yet begun to grow whiskers, at least, not on my chin, and shimmering with dew drop hope I found my new lover and his mate sulkily ensconced in the living area pretending not to ignore each other. What to do? “Have either of you taken any leisure time recently?” I asked, toweling my hair roughly and shaking it to one side where it draped in a roguish manner over one eye. Duo grinned at the undoubtedly ridiculous image I presented clothed in Wufei’s pants, as Duo’s are too tight around the waist for me and mine were soiled, as it were, a towel and ready expanse of glistening, bronze skin. Arrogant yes, but impossible to avoid with him looking at me like that. “Not really,” he chuckled for no more reason than I was grinning at him which inspired me to drop down between his legs and steal a kiss. “Then I would very much like to take you to Seascapes this afternoon.” “Fei?” Duo brightened hopefully but I suspect the presence of his arms around my shoulders bastardized the response. “I have to register the Holly Noll and process her cargo through customs,” he grumbled. The light faded from Duo’s beauteous eyes which was something I was ill at ease to suffer. “Great!” I piped up, grinning madly as I kissed Duo soundly on the mouth. “It’ll just be the two of us!” “I’ll get Hackson to do it,” Chang snipped, rising to glide briskly into their, our bedroom. Hn. Our bedroom? It was the only one the house had. Perhaps the new place should contain two? But then, where would Duo sleep? “Excellent!” Duo beamed and we were off.
