"The Negotiator" Ch 15 “This would be so much easier if we could fly,” Hiiro grumbled, fighting off the clinging underbrush. “You’re just not used to having to walk,” Duo chuckled. Hiiro grinned, letting his eyes follow the supple lines of his mate’s body as he moved through the moonlight ahead of him while the water containers over his shoulder swung to and fro with his braid to make a hollow clunking sound when they collided. “There is something to be said for ground travel,” he smiled then almost tripped over a root. “You don’t seem to have gotten the knack,” Duo chuckled, stopping to lend him a hand. “How much further is this river?” the man-dragon grumbled but his grousing turned into a soft intake of surprise when the bushes suddenly opened on a fairytale scene. “I think we found it,” Duo smiled, gliding forward into the gentle mist rolling off a small waterfall. Hiiro gazed into the picturesque window, his throat growing tight as he beheld Duo walking slowly in the silvery moonlight, his beautiful face glowing softly as the water cascaded down a fall of black rocks in the distance and suddenly the world was a much warmer place. “Are you going to make me do this by myself?” “What?” Hiiro breathed, suddenly noticing that his mate was filling the containers. “Oh… right.” It was odd the way the light playing on the water reflected in Duo’s eyes, almost as if the stars themselves had taken up residence in their depths and the mist mingled with his scent in a way that brought a hunger to Hiiro’s throat. “Are you all right?” Duo asked after his companion had managed to drop his container for the third time. “What?” Hiiro gasped a bit too loudly then laughed at his own nervousness. “Sorry,” he smiled contritely, finishing his task. Something was amiss, he knew it the moment Duo’s lovely eyes shifted and captured him hopelessly with a glance. This place was strange with its weeping willows and fireflies dotting the air. He could feel a strange magic, one he knew but couldn’t recognize. His thoughts were suddenly shattered when Duo stood and pulled off his shirt. “Let’s take a swim.” “Duo!” he rasped but his mate was already shedding his pants and the sight of his naked body in the moonlight stole his breath away. “Come on,” Duo smiled, dancing out into the shallow water. “It’s warm, Hiiro,” he laughed, splashing some of the silvery water Hiiro’s way and all that mattered all of a sudden was being with him. In less than an instant he had shed his clothes and joined his giggling mate and they fell together into the pool’s warm embrace, their mouths meeting and sharing the feelings in their hearts in the crystalline depths until finally they resurfaced and shared the air as well. “Do you think there’s an underground hot spring or something?” Duo giggled, playfully pulling his mate into deeper water. “No,” Hiiro grinned, goosing him for the sheer joy of hearing him laugh. “Then why is the water so warm, oh wise one,” Duo grinned, slipping back into his arms. “I can’t say.” “Don’t trust me?!” Duo gaffed in mock surprise. “I can’t recall,” Hiiro laughed, moving him under the fall. “Oh,” Duo subsided, laying his head back to luxuriate in the soothing water. “One of those things Quatre blocked out.” “Hn,” Hiiro confirmed but his mind was wandering the delicate curve of Duo’s throat so he leaned forward to give his mouth a taste. Duo moaned deliciously, rolling forward to envelope him in his warmth and Hiiro growled deep in his chest as emotions he had been trying very hard to keep in check threatened to break free. “Shh,” Duo suddenly hissed, going perfectly still. “What is it?” Hiiro whispered, acutely aware of the dead silence that had descended over the pool. “Oh, Mother of All,” Duo breathed softly, his eyes widening as something prickled at the back of Hiiro’s neck and he slowly turned to see the shimmering image of a snow white unicorn standing among the draping fingers of one of the willow trees. “That’s it,” he whispered, catching the creature’s infinite black gaze. “That’s the magic I couldn’t recall.” “Is this his pool?” Duo asked reverently. “Her,” Hiiro corrected. “And yes. But if she realizes what I am we’re in big trouble.” He elaborated when Duo raised a brow. “Unicorns are not particularly fond of… us.” “Well that seems like a bit of a stereotype,” Duo snipped. “You’re not like other…” but Hiiro suddenly had a hand over his mouth. “It doesn’t matter…” he began but knew it was too late when the beast stepped boldly into the water and her pearly horn began to glow. “We meant no harm,” Hiiro said, moving in front of his mate. “Let me talk to her,” Duo suggested. “She speaks more languages than you will even learn,” Hiiro reasoned, keeping himself between them. “Show thyself,” a whisper of wind demanded and Duo flinched at the odd feeling the sound gave him down deep in his ears. “Would that I were able,” Hiiro apologized, bowing respectfully. Duo suddenly felt a welcoming sleep tugging at his mind as the creature’s spiraling horn glowed brighter. “Treachery,” the whisper hissed, making him wish he could just go to sleep and not hear it anymore. “Thine eyes conceal miscreant blood.” “No,” Duo breathed, trying to shake the fog from his brain. “He’s under a spell… we’re trying to find a way to return him… to his true form.” “Duo, hush,” Hiiro whispered but too late. The unicorn took a step closer, stretching out her neck as if to get a whiff of the long haired humanoid in her pool. “Reveal thyself,” she commanded, softly peering at him as he moved to Hiiro’s side. “I’m Duo,” he introduced himself. “And this is my mate…” “Thou hast turned thy feet toward Oasis, Spirit of the East,” the unicorn cut in, making any further discretion about Hiiro’s true form unnecessary. “We travel with the Dragon Lord,” Hiiro explained. “Care I for the misbegotten fancies of mortals?” the creature snorted. “We have heard your proposal and wish you well.” “What does she mean?” Duo whispered and Hiiro answered with… “Azu Auk.” The phoenix had delivered his message and it sounded like the unicorns were on their side. “You have our gratitude,” Hiiro told the creature, moving further between Duo and the unicorn when she turned to step out of the pool. “Thine arrogance hath not dwindled with thy stature,” she sniffed, tossing her tail as she turned, huge, endless black eyes on Duo and smiled, “Fair thee well, Shadow Dancer.” They watched in silence as she slowly slipped into the veil, her pristine body shimmering slightly as the shadows parted and she simply disappeared. “What did she mean?” Duo asked, already ensconced in Hiiro’s arms. “Why did she call me that?” “I don’t know,” Hiiro replied. “But it is clear the unicorns’ approval has little to do with me or Wufei.” He paused a moment to brush the wet hair out of Duo’s eyes then kissed him warmly before he asked the night wind. “Who are you?” Duo felt compelled to answer even though the question hadn’t actually been directed at him but the best he could come up with was, “I…don’t know.” “We should get back,” Hiiro reasoned, feeling his fervor return. “Why?” Duo smiled, lying back in the black water. “She didn’t tell us to leave and it’s so wonderful here.” Hiiro groaned as he gazed down on him, his long body stretching out in the winking ripples of the pool and reasoned silently to himself that one small indulgence was surely worth the risk. Considering the way Duo groaned when he bent and laid his mouth on his stomach he was certain he’d chosen the right path. It had been some time, after all, since the beautiful humanoid had given himself over to the pleasures of the flesh. Hiiro’s altered state had made him shy and filled him with reservations but surely he could offer him some release, it would be no different than what they had shared before. No different in the fact that he still tasted of sweetness and light. No different in the way he begged softly, his voice so insistent and pure, no different in the way his body thrived under Hiiro’s desire but he had been wholly unprepared for the overwhelming pressure of his own needs and came up gasping for air. “Damn!” he rasped, unable to blink the passion out of his eyes. “Hiiro,” Duo gulped, frantically reaching for him, his body spread on the bank of the pool where the lapping waters reached up to caress his naked hips, the evidence of Hiiro’s affection standing proudly in the niche of his thighs, his skin flushed and shimmering and his eyes burning with unbridled need. “Ah, Gods, I can’t,” Hiiro groaned, bending to kiss him again. “Please,” Duo moaned, wriggling beneath him, his legs spreading and reaching. “You don’t know what you’re asking,” Hiiro hissed as their hips came together and he helplessly ground his down, making his mate arch back in glorious surrender. Duo was so deep in the mire his eyes had glazed over and all he knew was the need to satiate the fire inside him. His hips rotated and begged as his mouth and lips entreated with words so sweet and kisses of smoldering flame. “Duo,” Hiiro hissed, pushing hard down into his writhing mate, the exhausting effort to keep from ravishing him written clearly in the lines on his face. “Please… I can’t… if you don’t stop…” It was then that Duo kissed him and rocked his body forward and Hiiro suddenly gasped into his mouth when he was confronted with the incredible heat that lay within his beautiful mate when the tip of his intention graced the young man’s entry. He growled deep and long and pushed forward with no conscious thought and suddenly found himself at the throne of heaven. Neither of them moved, each lost in the feeling of becoming one; Duo’s heart beat tightly, and thrummed all around the trembling dragon so intensely that he knew he had finally lost his mind. “I’m sorry,” he rasped but could make no move to retreat. “Please,” Duo whispered on a thread filled with love and pain and all the terror and hope he felt in his heart and Hiiro didn’t know what more to do other than grant what wish he could. Duo cried out when he moved but his legs gripped tight so that Hiiro couldn’t get away, though the reversal of the motion ensured the braided one that his mate had no intention of withdrawal. The pace quickened as they were suddenly exploding with all the frustration and tension that had built between them, each thrust stealing away a bit of the wall that separated them until they were finally pulsing in perfect time. There had never been a time when Hiiro had known such a union nor had Duo ever dared to dream anyone could fill him so completely. His tears washed away any doubt that they would find a way no matter what lay ahead of them and Hiiro kissed each one drinking it in and saving it for the times they would need to remember. Duo held him close in the rising and ebbing tide, each cresting wave of ecstasy bringing them within reach of their goal but neither was willing to relinquish the blissful euphoria and claim the summit. Hiiro rocked him slowly and Duo rewarded him with his passion, an intoxication Hiiro was quickly addicted to as he nurtured the fire between them as his lover coaxed sensations from his humanoid body he never dreamed possible but it wasn’t until Duo began to shudder in his arms that he began to understand the full weight of the gift. “Duo!” he hissed as his legs began to tremble in the scintillating heat. Duo’s fingers dug into the flesh of his back, his hips answering his lover’s call as he arched back and met him blow for blow. Hiiro cried out and kissed him wrapping one hand behind his head as he forced his body to maintain, his mind refusing to give in to the excruciating need until he had gleaned the one thing in all of creation and beyond his heart wanted above all. When Duo finally surrendered, Hiiro’s victory cry shook the pillars of heaven and Duo screamed as his body was suddenly engulfed in orgasmic fire when his lover’s soul joined him in nirvana. Hiiro never stopped kissing his trembling lips as he rained gentle apologies on his face, but the tears in Duo’s eyes were only evidence of his joy as he told him time and again of his love and devotion. They did not speak of the future when the flames finally simmered, choosing only to lay in each other’s arms and await the inevitable return of passion, each knowing in their hearts that this was a time to be cherished as it may never happen again. They did not return to camp until the dawn forced their reluctant submission, but Hiiro made a point of swearing his heart and loyalty to his mate, accepting Duo’s promise in return before they made their way back into the company of men.
