"As Luck Would Have It "

Ch 2

“I’ve never actually seen a mobile suit battle” she smiled anxiously.

“It’s only a simulator,” he reminded her. “You can’t see anything from the outside. Besides, it’s late. Why don’t you go on to bed and we can have breakfast in the morning?” he suggested. Anything to get rid of her for the moment. He hadn’t been able to shake her all afternoon and even ended up having to tolerate her through a movie with Quatre and Trowa. The bad part was that the two boys had slowly slipped closer together in the dark auditorium until about half way through and they were necking like lovers often do. Hiiro didn’t mind them necking so much; it was just that it was giving him a hot spot just below the zipper. The good part was that it had obviously disturbed Relena enough she’d even lost her appetite for groping Hiiro.

“Alright,” she finally agreed, closing her eyes as she puckered up in the hope of a good night kiss. His mind flashed on Duo’s face, replacing the girl’s thin pink lips with the boy’s full taupe ones.

“I have to go,” he said briskly before rushing off down the hall and leaving her once again scowling in defeat.

He couldn’t be late, Duo had said he’d go if he were waiting when he got off work so he made sure he showed up five minutes early. The place was pretty much empty at this time of night. The sign said they stayed open until two a.m. but apparently things wound down much earlier.

“What can I get for you?” the bartender asked when he took a stool at the small bar that ran along the back wall.

“I’m just waiting for someone,” he told the older woman.

“What’s her name and I’ll call her for you,” she offered.

“Duo,” he replied.

She smiled in a way that made Hiiro wonder if she knew more about how the boy affected him than she should have. “I’ll tell him you’re here. What’s your name?”

“Hiiro.”

She smiled again before going to find him.

A minute later she returned closely followed by Duo and Hiiro’s heart skipped a beat. At first all he could see were those beautiful violet eyes and a face that could’ve called the rain from the sky but then the full force of the image washed over him when he noticed that he was no longer wearing the waiter’s attire but street clothes. A red shirt, black jacket… tight jeans… damn.

“Hi,” he smiled, making something crawl around in Hiiro’s chest that whispered of evil intentions.

“Hai” he returned, the sound bearing a double meaning for him as he really felt that he could not have refused him anything in the world.

There was a long, pregnant pause where they both just kind of stared at each other and the bartender’s smile reached ungodly proportion.

“You boys sure you don’t want something to drink?” she asked, amusedly as she polished one of her sparkling glasses.

“No thanks,” Duo replied, finally snapping out of it. “You ready?” he asked his bewildered companion.

“Hai.”

“What?”

“Oh, Um… yes.”

“Oh, right. That’s Japanese.”

“Yes.”

“Don’t you mean Hai?” They both laughed while the bartender chuckled at them until they had disappeared from sight.

The simulators were in the basement. They were no more than large black boxes for the most part on the outside but on the inside they were exactly like the cock pit of a Leo. Once inside it became a very realistic facsimile. You could even feel the impact of your opponent’s successful attacks. He learned very quickly not to be over confident with his new friend as the boy proved to be the best pilot he’d ever fought against and that was saying something since he’d been in the amateur league for some years. They emerged several hours later fairly evenly matched though Duo had one up on him because of a particularly creative bit of flying.

“You play professionally,” the longhaired boy surmised as he dunked his sweat damped head in the sink.

“Amateur,” Hiiro corrected. “I can’t join the pros until I’m seventeen.”

“Yeah,” Duo replied, shaking the water from his bangs and thoroughly making Hiiro forget his own name.

“You could play pro too,” he told him.

“I am,” Duo informed, him taking the towel from his hand. “This is just a summer thing,” he explained as they prepared to leave.

“You’ve been recruited?”

“Yeah, last year. I played for my school till G found me and boosted my training.”

“We’ll be opponents,” Hiiro smiled. The thought of seeing him on a regular basis was most appealing.

“What’s your team?”

“Zero.”

Duo whistled long and low. The action made his lips pucker and his eyes bright and Hiiro’s throat tighten up until he just barely ground out a quiet…

“You?”

“Deathscythe.”

They were both piloting for elite teams, a fact that barely registered in Hiiro’s mind as the boy smirked and suddenly he couldn’t think of a single thing to say.

“You want to get a drink?” Duo asked, still grinning at some unknown amusement.

“Is the bar still open?” It had to be four a.m.

“The rooms have a wet bar,” the longhaired boy reminded him, glancing away and then back again, his lips still firmly curved up at the corner as Hiiro’s mind went blank. Was he... propositioning him? “Unless you’d rather not,” he added, giving the Japanese boy his out.

“No,” Hiiro gasped. “No… that’s fine with me,” he told him, feeling a little drunk again. Could it be true? Or was he maybe just being friendly? Gods, what did he do now?! He ended up talking to him all the way up to his room about the battles they’d just had together and their futures in the league. He’d gotten so caught up in the conversation he didn’t realize they were already at his room until his stomach flip flopped at the sight of the door.

“What would you like?” he asked, moving straight to the bar to fix himself a much needed brandy.

“Whatever you’re having,” Duo replied, dropping his gear by the door and leaving his shoes there as well before plopping down on the couch and stretching out. He certainly was good at making himself comfortable. “Nice room,” he mused, accepting his drink from his host as he moved his feet from the couch clearly indicating an invitation to sit beside him. “Where’s your girlfriend?” he asked once his companion had taken his seat.

“She’s not my girlfriend,” Hiiro informed him, draining his glass in one gulp. His nerves were stretched so tight he couldn’t think straight. This felt so much like a come on it wasn’t even funny but Duo was a boy. What if he was horribly wrong? And what about himself? He’d never felt like this toward anyone before but he had to admit, given the chance he’d be on him in a heartbeat.

“Really?” Duo chuckled, sipping his brandy as he relaxed back into the throw pillows in the corner of the couch. Hiiro nodded and tried not to stare. “You might want to inform her of that,” he laughed lightly again. Hiiro couldn’t help but turn to look at him as the sound rang in his ears and tugged at his heart once again. Could a human being actually make a sound like that? He forgot his curiosity the moment his eyes made contact with Duo’s. Duo smiled at him, looking highly amused as he slid his left foot down the cushion and buried it under Hiiro’s right thigh as he said softly. “You’re a very interesting person.”

“Duo,” Hiiro heard himself say in a distant voice as his blood rushed in his ears. “I know this sounds weird but…”

“You want to kiss me?” the longhaired boy asked, sitting up closer to him still smiling that comely little smile.

“Yes.” Damn it, was hard to breathe all of a sudden.

“What’s stopping you?” Duo asked, coming so close to him the words warmed his lips.

There seemed to be nothing more to say so he leaned forward and kissed him sweetly. His blood pressure just about popped his ear drums when Duo’s tongue ran along his bottom lip begging entrance. A moment later they were locked in a heated embrace and doing everything in their power to crawl down each other’s throats. Hiiro had never dreamed there could be anything so hot in all his life. Duo was sweet and sexy and full of an energy that hit him like a tidal wave and all he could think of was how much he wanted more of him. Before he knew it he was deep within a world he’d never known existed much less considered as a possible lifestyle as he learned the fine art of loving a male partner. Oddly enough it was nothing like being with a female even though Duo seemed to prefer the submissive position. He’d found it to be a phenomenally life altering experience.

“Ah!” Duo gasped softly as they separated for the fifth time.

“Sorry,” Hiiro breathed, still trying to catch his breath. He was still dripping with sweat and half blind from the rapture being with Duo brought him but he already wanted him again. He just couldn’t seem to get enough.

“S’ok” Duo chuckled, letting him kiss his neck as he breathed in a deep sigh and held him close. “Go to sleep,” he told him kissing the top of his head as he coddled him warmly.

“Mmmmm,” Hiiro groaned happily, letting his mind level off and his body fall into the gentle bliss.

It had been the best night of his entire life and he owed everything to the angel in his arms. When he woke several hours later it was to find that his angel had flown away. He was alone. There was no note, no phone number… nothing. His first thought was had he been nailed as a one night stand? No. That couldn’t be because Duo worked right there in the resort. Calming at that thought he rose and dressed and went down to get himself some breakfast and see if he was at work yet but when he inquired about him he was informed the day before had been his last day on the job. It became clear very quickly that he had indeed been abandoned when he learned that Duo had left the island completely to go and join up with his mobile suit team and would not be returning.

Well, he could take a hint but it didn’t make it hurt any less. He decided to leave that day much to Relena’s dismay but he just couldn’t deal with her at the time. By the time he returned home he realized that he’d lost much more than his masculine virginity to the longhaired boy.

**

“OUR FIRST MATCH OF THE DAY WILL BE THE GUNDAM DEATHSCYTHE VS HEAVYARMS!”

He’d known the braided boy would be competing but he still couldn’t stop his stomach from turning over every time he heard the great mecha’s name being called. It had been over eight months since the night he’d spent with Duo but he could still feel his body heat every time he closed his eyes. It hadn’t come as a surprise that both Quatre and Trowa were involved as well since they’d all become fairly close over the past few months. The blond kept in contact with him on a regular basis and even Trowa was known to call him and challenge him to a practice bout from time to time.

He watched with mixed emotions as Deathscythe narrowly evaded a barrage of bullets sent by Trowa’s Heavyarms. He recalled the skill the longhaired boy had shown when he’d bested him in the simulators when he moved so quickly up behind the huge mecha Trowa never stood a chance to stop him from dealing the death blow that ended the match. He’d gotten better actually. Hiiro would have his work cut out for him.

Relena crowed his name and waved enthusiastically from her box seat just over the announcer’s booth. It was the best seat in the house if you wanted to croon over the contestants. He’d been very grateful when his sponsor and trainer Dr. J had refused to allow the girl to watch from the pilot’s box.

As the day wore on it became more and more apparent that the two to beat were Hiiro and Duo but they hadn’t been pitted against each other yet when the semi final round came up late in the after noon. Hiiro had prepared himself for this inevitability pushing any and all feelings he might have for the pilot away as he took his stand before the huge, black and white Gundam. It had been a good day and he was feeling good after his successful battles. His limbs and mind were warmed up and ready for another go. He felt the surge of adrenaline as his opponent’s twenty meter long scythe hissed and flashed to life, his fingers tightening around the trigger of his enormous beam cannons as he prepared for battle. He had been right in his assessment, Duo had improved but so had he. He also had the added determination of a man scorned as well which brought him the win in the end. He simply couldn’t allow himself to loose to Duo again.

It was with a very confused heart that he accepted the right to proceed to the finals where he would fight against a Gundam called Altron which was piloted by a Chinese boy named Chang Wufei. He was an admirable opponent in his own right though this wasn’t to be Hiiro’s first battle with him. They had both dominated the minor leagues. It was an old rivalry and though he had never spent much time with the raven haired boy off the field they had formed a relationship of mutual respect on it. He still felt a pain in his chest knowing that it had been he that had pushed Duo out of the running this time but that was how the game was played.

Wufei proved to be a vicious competitor as usual but he still managed to pull of the win taking the cup for the first competition of the season. Dr. J was most pleased as was the rest of his team and of course… Relena.

“Hiiro! You were brilliant!” she gushed, latching onto his arm the moment he was within reach. There were a lot of pictures and a short interview before the cup was presented. He noticed Duo standing among the onlookers as things started to wind down, Wufei by his side. Did they know each other? Something jumped up and sank its fangs into his chest when he saw the little smirk on Wufei’s lips as he followed the braided boy into the locker rooms. He had to know. Were they lovers? Is this why he’d been abandoned without so much as a goodbye? He handed the large, three feet tall cup to Relena when she attempted to accost him as he left the podium and went off in search of the pair.

He found them in the empty shower room that was used when they held other sports like football in the area. He’d have over looked them if it hadn’t been for the sound of Duo’s voice.

“…and I said stop it.”

“Why?” Wufei replied.

“Because you’re a prick.”

“Thought that’s what you liked about me?” Wufei chuckled. Hiiro peered around the corner to see that he had Duo pinned against the tiled wall. However, the braided boy didn’t look much like he was enjoying himself.

“I don’t like you at all,” Duo sighed tugging on his imprisoned hands in vain.

“I know something you will like,” the raven hared boy grinned leaning down to gnaw on his neck.

“Stop it!” Duo snarled, fighting for real this time but he still couldn’t get free. Hiiro’s blood was beginning to pulse harder in his temples. How dare the Chinese boy force himself on him like that!

“You’re always like this,” Wufei accused holding him fast. “Tease, tease, tease and never deliver. Well not this time,” he told him, forcing his thighs apart with his own as he crushed his groin to Duo’s hard and forced a brutal kiss on him.

“Let him go!” Hiiro’s stern voice echoed off the tiles as he emerged, his eyes spitting blue flames and his stride indicating he was not making a request.

Wufei obliged instantly, backing away from the longhaired boy who glared at him before offering Hiiro a weak little smile of gratitude.

“Yui,” the Chinese boy grinned once he recognized him. “Nice match,” he told him, assessing the silent conversation that was going on between his two companions. “Looks like you’ve already met Duo,” he grinned knowingly.

“Are you alright?” he asked, offering his hand to the longhaired boy who took it gladly and let him pull him to his side as he nodded.

“He’s tough,” Wufei chuckled, winking at the glaring violet eyes. “He can take it,” he grinned. “Cant ya?” he asked, looking much too smug for Hiiro’s liking.

“Apologize,” Hiiro demanded.

Wufei chuckled again. “Sure,” he told him, still grinning. “Just as soon as he asks for it,” he said before leaving them alone.

“Thanks,” Duo breathed a sigh of relief.

“You’re sure you’re ok?” Hiiro asked. He would never have expected such behavior from the Chinese boy. He’d always fought with integrity and strength. It was a real shock.

“Yeah,” the braided boy replied. Hiiro’s heart just about stopped when he slowly turned his gaze upon him. Every emotion, every heated desire he’d felt over the past few months flooding his mind at once. The dreams of long nights of passion, the visions of them together at the beach, an evening at home, rolling like thunder under the covers of their mountain cottage. A thousand memories that were nothing more than his uncontrollable imagination flashed in his mind. The only real ones in the bunch were the night they’d spent together so long ago but they were as vivid as if they’d only just happened the night before.

“Why didn’t you say goodbye?” he asked the question that had been burning in his mind.

“Goodbye is such a … permanent word,” Duo smiled, moving closer. It was happening again, he couldn’t breathe, his thoughts were fading away and all there was left was Duo. Beautiful Duo and his sinfully delicious form.

“Duo…”

“Hm?” the boy hummed, letting the heat of his breath wash across Hiiro’s chin.

“What’re you… Why’re you…” Ahhhhh damn! Why in the hell was he kissing his throat?!?!

“Shhh,” the longhaired boy soothed, softly moving slowly up to his ear. “This isn’t really the time for talk,” he whispered, leaving a warm, wet trail on Hiiro’s ear with his tongue that sent a heat wave right down his spine that sprang instantly to life between his legs. Duo moved slowly around, letting his lips gently ghost over the tense Japanese boy’s before he whispered in a tiny little tone that was so full of heat and promise it took Hiiro’s breath away as he inquired, “Is it?”

The next twenty minutes was a wild flurry of hot bodies on cold tiles, impassioned groans and a whole hell of a lot of sweat. It was fast, furious and so damn good Hiiro was damned surprised he’d made it past first entry. It was only his desperate need to feel him in his arms that had given him the strength to withstand the indescribable feeling he got from being joined with him. They were still panting for breath and viciously wrapped around each other when they heard the sound of others approaching. They said nothing but separated and straightened themselves up as best they could before two people, a man and a woman dressed in the stadium staff attire, came into view.

“What’re you doing in here?” he man asked. “Oh... Mr. Yui,” he smiled, recognizing them. “Sorry, I didn’t realize it was you. Mr. Maxwell,” he nodded to Duo.

“That’s alright,” Duo smiled, smoothing his mussed bangs. “We were just finishing up anyway,” he said moving quickly to leave.

“Duo!” Hiiro called after him, feeling the pain slam into him again but the boy only flashed a small smile before he disappeared from sight. By the time Hiiro pulled himself together enough to follow he’d already gotten lost in the crowd outside.

First he was hurt. Then he was pissed. What had that been about? Was he not good for anything but a quick romp? What in the hell did he want from him?! He fumed all the way back to his hotel room but before he’d managed to get drunk it occurred to him that perhaps he’d done it as a means of expressing his gratitude for having thwarted Wufei’s unwanted advances. He snorted at the idea. A simple thank you would have been enough. Hell, dinner would have been great! He couldn’t regret having had the chance to touch him again but at that point his heart and mind were just screaming for more. He’d never felt more frustratingly satisfied in his life!
