"As Luck Would Have It "

Ch 17

After a week to deliberate on the situation Relena seemed to warm up to the idea of spending her pregnancy at their house. The fact that she would be living in the same house as Hiiro for eight plus months was a major lure she simply couldn’t resist. However, her fantasy that he would be at her beck and call and easily distracted from Duo due to her condition was quickly squashed like a bug.

On the other hand she really had little choice. Once Howard and the Sweepers had gotten wind of the new baby they’d made it a very large point to make their presence felt in many different ways. For one, What was allowed to move in to help care for the girl and make sure she was taking care of herself and thereby the baby within, an assignment she seemed most delighted with. Duo insisted on being the one to take her to her doctor’s appointments and Hiiro refused to be excluded from this as well. Michael appointed himself the girl’s personal entertainment and made it his job to see to it that she was as stress free as possible. She was oddly satisfied with this development but then the man resembled Adonis so it was unlikely that she would have any objections. Modeal was another matter entirely. He’d kept his purely indignant hatred of the girl ill concealed from the start, glaring at her in a way that made her feel like he wished he could rip the skin from her body. Between him and the not so subtle hints Howard was always dropping in her presence she learned very quickly that what Duo had said about her being shot in the head was no idle threat.

By her fourth week her confidence was returning somewhat and she began to make little demands. A certain kind of milk, Hiiro’s presence which was always firmly denied much to her discontent, trips shopping or her favorite vid show on DVD. She didn’t really pay Hiire much attention and no one encouraged her to. She would be leaving again in a few months so no one saw any reason for the child to get attached. The extent of their relationship appeared to be Hiire’s complete lack of interest in her and her jealousy of the child’s close relationship with Hiiro. She was sitting outside at the lawn table under the big maple with Michael listening to him read her a sonnet he’d found in an old book at the library when the little green monster nipped at her heals again. Hiiro was over near the back door. It was a Saturday afternoon, late enough that the day care had closed for the day leaving them all some time to play so that’s just what Hiiro was doing. Playing with his daughter, seeing how many eggs she could hit with one pellet from her small pellet gun. Four on the first shot. Hiiro was very pleased.

“That seems like a dangerous activity for a five year old,” Relena stated sternly, causing Michael to pause and look up from his reading.

Hiiro glanced at her, squatted down to say something to the smiling child who popped the clip on her small gun and laid both it and the clip on the table beside her before running off into the house. Hiiro picked it up and slipped it into his pocket as he walked over to the table where the girl sat. Relena perked up instantly, putting on her brightest smile for him as he approached.

“Try to use Hiire to your benefit again and I’ll see you’re moved into a one room apartment with Modeal for the duration of your pregnancy,” Hiiro told her smoothly. Her smile faded as quickly as the blood drained from her face while he offered Michael a small smile before turning to leave.

Hiiro’s steadfast control over the girl proved the most valuable asset of them all. Her desire not to displease him held her in check more often than anything else but he really couldn’t stand to be around her very much. By the end of the eighth week she had taken ill with morning sickness and become a real burden on them all with her incessant whining and unreasonable demands. Hiiro was hard pressed during this time and found himself late one Sunday morning hiding out in the laundry room to escape.

“Hey,” Wufei said gently, knowing full well why his lover was in there folding Duo’s boxer shorts as he leaned back on the warm dryer.

It suddenly occurred to Hiiro that he hadn’t touched the elegant Chinese boy once in the past two weeks. Actually, he and Duo hadn’t had any intimate time together either come to think of it and it had been... gods... how long since they were all three together at once? Wufei had moved into one of the guest rooms when Relena had moved in, in an attempt to retain some measure of privacy as to the nature of their relationship but Hiiro had never thought that having his lovers separated would be so damn hard. He had just figured they’d find some time but they hadn’t. He dropped Duo’s boxers and marched right over and kissed the raven haired boy smack on the lips.

Wufei was mildly shocked for a moment but soon melted under his lover’s tender heat, allowing him to explore the depths of his need as much as he liked. The kiss quickly turned up the heat and things began to get a little out of control. The laundry room was off limits when Hiire was home though so they forced themselves to pull up before the fire could consume them.

“Miss me?” Wufei teased, brushing the words along his kiss wet lips.

“Mmmmmmmuh!” Hiiro growled, kissing him again, this time so forcefully that he bent him back on the dryer before he managed to pull back again.

“Get Duo,” he told the raven haired boy who was now trembling in his arms while nodding his head.

**

Relena couldn’t stand it anymore. She’d whined so much about her morning sickness Hiiro had insisted she go to bed and rest but she really didn’t feel badly enough to just sit there and do nothing so she slipped out of the bed and went to the window to stare out at the beautiful day she was missing. Duo was down in the yard weeding or fertilizing or whatever it is servants do in their off time. She sneered at the very thought of him. He just thought he was such hot shit with those little blue jean cut offs, showing off by not wearing a shirt in the hot sun and those tattered old tennis shoes he wore with no socks. What could Hiiro possibly see in… her thoughts were interrupted when Wufei stepped into view. She’d often seen the Chinese boy ogling the chestnut haired youth but it was downright indecent the way he was openly leering at him now. She stepped up a little closer to the window; she couldn’t hear but she could see quite well when the raven haired boy slipped up behind him and pulled his hips back against his own. Her eyes lit up hungrily when Duo leaned back into him, Wufei’s arms snaking their way around the longhaired boy’s body as the hose he had been watering the flower bed with dropped forgotten to the ground. She almost jumped for joy when Wufei turned him in his arms and kissed him deeply then led him off into the house.

“I brought you some crackers and tea.”

“What?”

“What.”

“Wha... Oh, stop that,” Relena admonished the smirking What.

“Eat’em” What advised “They’ll make you feel better.”

“Actually,” Relena grinned down at the now empty back yard. “I’m feeling much better already.”

Relena was not encouraged to take her meals with the others so when she turned up at dinner that night everyone grew suspicious at once. She didn’t eat much or talk other than when she was spoken to which only made the smug look in her eyes that much more curious. It was a bit of a relief when she finally got around to exposing her thoughts.

“You do take such good care of the flower beds,” she said out of the clear blue sky as she sliced a piece of her cheesecake then glanced up at Duo though everyone was staring at her. “I noticed you watering today,” she went on, calmly dabbing the corner of her mouth.

“Shit,” Wufei breathed, glancing at Hiiro which put an evil little grin on Relena’s face.

“It was a very interesting method you displayed,” she went on. “Does kissing Wufei help them to grow?” she asked with a triumphant gleam in her eye as Hiiro’s expression turned stern.

“You kissed him in the garden?” Hiiro asked but the question was put to the Chinese boy not Duo who, for some odd reason, was hiding his mouth behind his napkin.

“Did you see what he was wearing?” Wufei countered, wiping a lot of the smugness from Relena’s expression.

“Damn it,” Hiiro sighed.

“’Scuse me,” Duo gasped, standing suddenly and rushing from the room. His actions brought the predatory gleam back to Relena’s eyes as Hiiro stood and raced after him. Wufei was fast on his heals, leaving the girl to the company of the grinning What and bewildered looking Michael.

“Oh, my god!” Duo laughed, letting the giggle fit the girl’s actions had caused in his gut finally spill out once he was in his own room.

“That was careless of you both,” Hiiro scolded but he was chuckling as well. “You need to be more careful,” he told them.

“Show me,” Duo demanded, slamming into him so hard he knocked him back onto the bed but Hiiro had no time to worry about complaining. Wufei paused, cocked a brow, locked the door and dove in head first. Twice in one day. Things were looking up!

**

“I’m going to kill’er.”

“What?”

“Don’t even go there” What growled, eyeing the grinning Duo.

“Alright,” Hiiro chuckled at the feuding pair. “Why don’t you take some time off?” he suggested.

“Yeah,” Duo agreed. “I bet Quat and Trowa would be glad to come hang out and take up the slack,” he said, grinning wildly at his now smirking husband. They had had horribly little time with the other two boys in the five months since Relena’s arrival. Hiiro was lucky to see Trowa more than once a month and Duo had all but given up hope of ever lashing Quatre to the kitchen chair.

The next week things changed a bit in the boys’ household. Relena hadn’t been all that upset that What was taking some time off, mostly because she was a formidable barrier between herself and Hiiro and now that she was beginning to show a little she was feeling the need for his support more than ever. Michael was still keeping up his angelic visits to boost her morale but her frustration over Hiiro’s lack of upset about the kiss with Wufei had seeded inside her and was manifesting itself more every day. Nothing more had been said about the kiss after that night and the sickeningly sweet rapport between the three boys afterward was just slowly over tightening her nut. The fact that Quatre had taken over What’s duties didn’t really settle too well either. The girl had apparently been hoping that Hiiro would fall into the role for some unknown reason. But, Quatre was patient and tolerant and the best person for the job at that moment so he was happy to help in spite of her irritated mood.

The week provided Hiiro and Trowa with some catch up time which the others guarded severely from the watchful eyes of their resident mother. One of the main reasons Duo had suggested this arrangement was so that the two could reestablish themselves since they’d had so little time to be together lately. It was good all the way around since they were more than a little grateful to each of their respective lovers once the week was out. A lot the tension had been eased as well although Duo still hadn’t found an opportunity to find out what type of noises Quatre would make if he caught him off guard in the garden.

What returned full of new life and a short evening of dinner and wine with Howard and Modeal seemed to settle Relena’s ever increasing superiority complex. The next couple of months went by without major incident. Duo had to admit to his lovers that he was a little relieved Hiire hadn’t taken any more interest in her mother than a passing curiosity. She really didn’t seem to care for the woman’s company and who could blame her? Duo didn’t see the woman as a positive influence anyway so it was more of a comfort than anything. He would still get this far away look in his eyes now and then when he looked at Relena however, almost as if he were admiring something about her but it would always fade the moment she moved or blinked an eye. Hiiro had surmised long ago the dreamy gaze was his husband’s wonderings about what Hiire would look and be like when she was older and it always made him smile. It was a very endearing expression.

Come her eighth month What once again demanded some time off. Relena was becoming completely intolerable, ordering her around, trying to treat her like her own personal slave and door mat and just being all around pissy all the time. Her hour glass figure was gone, replaced by the huge, round belly of a mother to be. Her back hurt, her legs were swollen and her cheeks puffed out with water retention that made her feel like a bloated toad. Duo was fussing over her more and more which only served to make her even more cranky and Hiiro seemed to want nothing to do with her at all at this point. Wufei kept his distance unless otherwise required but he’d been there for all the important things like the ultrasound. The girl had asked why he needed to be there but all Hiiro would tell her was that he did and she needed to be quiet about it. The strange closeness with the Chinese boy hadn’t escaped her attention and she questioned it more and more as he was continually thrust into the mix as if it were his child. It really annoyed her but Hiiro had zero tolerance for her concerns in this area so she kept it to a minimum.

They were all sitting in the living room watching the vid on the second night of Quatre and Trowa’s latest visit, Hiiro and Duo curled up on one end of the couch where Duo had plopped his feet in Wufei’s lap so the Chinese boy was absently rubbing them. Relena didn’t dare question it. Quatre had gone to the kitchen to freshen up their drinks leaving Trowa with a chilly spot where he’d vacated on the other couch. Relena had the big easy chair at the end of the room, the most comfortable seat available, her back cushioned with throw pillows and a heating pad and her swollen feet propped up on a footstool when she suddenly said…

“Ow.”

Four boy’s were up out of their seats and hovering over her in less than a second and Quatre came running out of the kitchen to join them.

“What?”

“Are you alright?”

“It’s too early, right?”

“He kicked me,” the girl told them with a small giggle. She couldn’t help it. They all looked so ridiculous.

“He’s... awake?” Duo asked, looking awestricken.

“Mm hm,” she smiled and for once it was an honest smile. Warm and soft and full of life and it truly took Duo’s breath away. “See?” she said, reaching out to take his hand and placing it on the spot where she’d felt the baby kick. Duo looked like he’d just put his hand in the end of a beam cannon sitting there with his eyes all round and glassy and then…

“Ah!” he barked, jumping slightly before he started giggling right along with Relena who seemed to be getting a huge kick out the entire affair.

The others gathered around close, each placing a hand on the spot until they felt the child move, each as amazed as Duo by the experience until it finally came down to Hiiro’s turn. Relena blushed as everyone looked to the Japanese boy who looked like he might like to run away instead but Duo wasn’t having any of it and reached out to place his hand on the girl’s stomach. He looked a little like he were being asked to pet a pit viper but he complied until he too smiled at the odd sensation of movement beneath the taut skin.

“Gods,” Duo sighed, giving into the impulse to lay his head on her stomach, an action everyone was amazed she not only didn’t freak over but absently laid her hand on the back of his head, gently allowing him his moment as he listened intently and grinned like a loon. “Hiiro,” he said after a moment, pulling his husband down as well. “Listen,” he told the frightened looking Japanese boy as he forced his ear to the girl’s belly. “Isn’t it amazing?” he exclaimed.

Relena just sat there and let the two of them lay on her stomach, one hand on each of the backs of their heads until they had their fill. Quatre, Trowa and Wufei could do nothing more than sit back and marvel at the strange trio wondering just what in the world the fates had been smoking the day they created this mess.

“Fei,” Duo breathed, holding out his hand.

“I’d rather…” Relena began but stopped stone still when Hiiro looked up at her suddenly and asked…

“Please?”

The look in his eyes purely took her breath away and she found herself nodding in agreement to something she couldn’t even recall what was.

“It’s alright,” Wufei stammered uncomfortably. “I don’t need uuf!”

“Come on,” Duo insisted, having kicked one of the raven haired boy’s feet out from under him.

“Alright! Geez,” Wufei grumbled, crawling over to take Duo’s place. Relena allowed this but didn’t touch his head. She was pretty happy with the fact that Hiiro was still there. Wufei’s face lit up with glee when the baby kicked him in the cheek.

“Wow,” he exclaimed. “Duo, feel this,” he said excitedly, pulling the braided boy back down to join them where upon Relena found herself with three heads in her lap, each wearing a bright grin and a pair of sparkling eyes.

“Akae,” Duo breathed.

“What’s that?” Relena asked.

“His name,” Wufei smiled.

“Does it mean something?” the girl wanted to know.

Hiiro raised his head and the others followed suit, all three of them smiling at her as they spoke in unison.

“Gift.”

This idea seemed to befuddle the girl over the next couple of days. Things had been so very different when she’d been pregnant with Hiire. The child’s father had taken little or no interest in her at all, leaving her to deal with the entire sickening affair on her own. She’d had no desire to ever see the child again once she was free of it and still found herself blaming the little girl for her loss of the father. She knew how childish and stupid these feelings were at that point in her life but she still had no idea how to conquer them, especially her feelings for Hiiro. The thought of keeping the child had entered her mind for the first time that night but by a day later she’d reasoned out that that would be the biggest disaster this side of the black plaque. Besides, she’d already signed the adoption papers and knew that the boys would not only fight her tooth and nail for the child but she’d live the rest of her life watching over her shoulder for Howard and his crew. No, things would be much better this way. She’d have the baby and disappear just like they wanted her to and that would be that but she couldn’t help feeling saddened by the passing days. Only a couple of more weeks and ….

“Hiiro? Is that you?” she called, hearing a commotion in the garden shed.

Wufei had said he’d come out there to speak to Duo so this was where she’d decided to look. Well, someone was in there searching for something because the entire shed was shaking so she waddled her fat little ass over and took a peek inside and just about broke her water jumping back out of sight again, her hand clutched to her mouth in sheer shock. After a moment her eyes took on a calculating gleam and she peered around the crack in the door again just to make sure that she’d seen what she thought she’d seen and sure enough, there was Duo nailing Quatre to the wall of the shed, his hands bound with ropes to the wall, his legs pushed so far open he looked like he might break, his eyes and mouth bound so he couldn’t scream out as the braided boy slammed into him over and over again. She almost chirped in her elation before she sneaked off back up to her room to fix her make up and put on her prettiest dress.

She waited until the most opportune time, when they were all gathered after dinner having a glass of wine in the living room, the favorite topic of discussion lately being the final touches on the nursery for Akae which they were happily arguing about when she appeared. Duo took one look at her and knew something was up.

“You ok?” he asked, concerned for the baby.

“Perfect,” she smiled. “Hiiro,” she said, her eyes taking on a very serious, sympathetic expression. “There’s something I thought you should know,” she told him gaining everyone’s attention. “I’m sorry,” she went on. “I really don’t know how to tell you this other than to just come right out and say it,” she said taking a deep breath, a secret glint in the back of her somber eyes as she revealed, “Duo raped Quatre in the shed today.”

Trowa spit his wine halfway across the room as he busted up laughing. Wufei did a little better managing to keep it to a low dignified chuckle, Quatre’s jaw hit the floor and all Duo could do was sit there and gape like a fish. Hiiro… he was glaring at her obviously fed up with her need to try and meddle in his life.

“But I saw it!” the girl insisted, taking their reactions as disbelief. “He tied him up! He raped him!” she snapped, actually stomping her foot in frustration.

“Quatre,” Hiiro said after a moment.

Trowa had almost gotten control of himself and Duo was just looking a little lost. Apparently, having had Relena see him in that situation was making him skip a gear. Quatre obeyed however, still looking shocked and blushing like a demon in heat. When he got to where he was standing in front of Hiiro the Japanese boy reached out and took his hand pushing his pale pink sleeve up to reveal the light marks left by the ropes.

“Did you do this?” he asked, eyeing his fish lipped husband who nodded dumbly. Relena’s expression swelled to one of utmost triumph then froze solid as Hiiro spun the boy around and jerked him down in his lap. “Nice work,” he told his bewildered husband who managed a kind of cocked, half smile that seemed as if he were mildly pleased with himself. “Anything else damaged?” Hiiro asked, using his knees to spread Quatre’s legs open as he slipped his hand, palm spread down his crotch and around to the crack of his ass and squeezed.

“Ahhh!” Quatre groaned, arching back into him, his body still so sensitive from the encounter with Duo that one small action was enough to send him into euphoric overload.

“What’re you doing!” Relena shouted, turning red faced. “He raped him! He’s probably injured!”

“He didn’t rape him,” Trowa chuckled.

“Yes I did,” Duo grinned.

“You know what I mean,” the taller boy said, tossing a throw pillow at him.

The girl just stood there uncomprehending, her blue eyes transfixed on where Hiiro was now openly fondling the blond boy’s swelling crotch and twisting him around so that he could lick his teeth while Quatre groaned and writhed happily in his lap.

“Yo, Hiiro,” Trowa interrupted. “I think he’s probably out of commission for the night,” he told him, gently extracting his lover from the Japanese boy’s lap.

“Then you take his place,” Hiiro grinned.

Trowa paused, glanced back at Relena and decided to go with the flow. If Hiiro wanted to let her in on their little secret, so be it.

“Don’t mind if I do,” the taller boy smiled, pulling him from the chair.

Relena’s eyes almost popped clean out of her head when he slipped his arms around his waist and kissed him so profoundly he’d almost laid him on the couch before he finally released him and let him come up for air.

“What... I ... what’re... but…” the girl stammered, unable to pull a single thought out of her head.

“It’s ok,” Duo told her, trying for soothing. “They’ve been lovers for a long time.”

“But... you... I saw you,” she breathed, looking very peaked all of a sudden.

“Yeah,” Duo sighed. “Quatre and I get a little weird sometimes. Sorry you had to see that,” he smiled sheepishly.

“But you’re married to... and he’s with... Trow...”

“Relena?” Duo breathed, seeing the first signs of hyperventilation.

“I don’t… unng!.. unders…stan…NNNG!”

She never had a chance to hit the floor.

“Call the doctor!”

“Get her to a chair!”

“Oh, gods! I think her water broke!”

“Shit! Get an ambulance! NOW!”
