Epilogue ‘They’re here! Mother, they’re here!’ Ichiwa called excitedly, running down the front steps of the Peacecraft Manor toward the landing pad. ‘Get a move on!’ Relena rolled her eyes softly and took a deep breath. Sometimes her daughter reminded her so much of her father she could just scream. The thirteen year old girl darted back up the steps to tug on her arm, impatiently rolling her bright, violet eyes. ‘Come on, Mom!’ ‘Ichiwa’ Relena began tolerantly. ‘A lady never...’ ‘Aw, Mom! Don’t start with the lady crap again! We’re gonna be late!’ the girl retorted, flying down the steps again. The young Queen sighed and said a little prayer for patience as she watched her ebony clad child fade into the shadows and disappear. She’d have to speak to Duo about proper etiquette for a young woman again. She thought about that for a moment as she descended the stairs, then shook her head. On second thought, what was the point? She knew the girl’s elation went far beyond her usual joy at seeing her father’s ship touching down. It wasn’t exactly a rare occasion since it happened on a regular basis. The crew had spent the better part of their time here on Annon Shugi for the past thirteen years but this time the girl was certain she had something special to show off. Relena smiled as the ramp lowered to reveal five boys, each her daughter’s senior by no more than two years in appearance but she knew far better than to allow her eyes to judge. She smiled fondly as Hiiro’s familiar visage came into view. ‘Relena,’ the Japanese boy smiled, walking over to offer her a kiss on the cheek. ‘I’m sorry we’re late getting back,’ he went on as Quatre and Trowa descended the ramp hand in hand. ‘Perfectly understandable,’ the woman smiled. Hiiro had never understood the girl’s decision to refuse the gift of eternal youth. She’d tried to explain it many times but it still eluded him so he just smiled fondly at the beautiful changes in her face and offered her his arm. ‘Come on, Duo!’ Wufei called up the ramp but there was no answer. ‘Duo?’ he called again, climbing halfway back up, looking for their missing comrade. ‘Aaaaiiiii!’ a sudden scream sounded from a nearby bush as a young girl clad in dark shadow tumbled to the ground, laughing her head off. ‘D...Daddy! S...Stop! C...can’t breath! Ha hahaha’ ‘Hello, Starshine!’ Duo grinned as the inky black spot on her chest began to take the shape of the girl’s spitting image where he sat on her and pinned her helplessly to the ground. ‘You ruined my surprise!’ she grumbled, doing her best to sound indignant through the wide grin on her face. ‘Next time,’ he said conspiratorially, leaning down close to her face. ‘Remember the ship’s sensors are always on during a landing. I knew you were there before we ever touched ground.’ Her eyes went wide for a moment then she sagged in defeat. ‘Yes, Daddy,’ she said softly, clearly more than a little disappointed in herself. ‘When did you perfect the shifting?’ he asked, helping her up. Her eyes brightened considerably. ‘You noticed,’ she grinned. ‘Hello, Starshine’ Hiiro smiled. ‘Papa!’ the girl sang, throwing herself into his arms for a huge hug. ‘Did you see?’ she asked excitedly. ‘Hai,’ he smiled. ‘Your skills are coming along very well,’ he praised. ‘Aunt Quatre, Uncle Trowa!’ she beamed, offering them both a hug before she suddenly turned and tried to sweep Wufei off his feet. The Chinese boy avoided her easily enough but had worked up a bit of a sweat in his efforts to defend himself before she seemed satisfied. ‘Cocky little thing,’ he grinned as she stood panting and clearly put out that she hadn’t managed to land a blow. She held her defiant stance a moment then smiled and hugged him. ‘Welcome home, Daifu,’ she said warmly. ‘The roundhouse is highly improved,’ he whispered in her ear. ‘I’m impressed.’ The praise earned him a hundred watt grin. ‘And how, might I ask,’ Duo said, dropping his forehead to rest on hers so their eyes were only centimeters apart. ‘Did you manage such a great amount of improvement in so short a time?’ ‘By practicing on me, as usual,’ a stiff voice droned. ‘Is it my fault your deaf as a post?’ Ichiwa retorted as the young man joined them. Duo’s breath caught in his throat. He’d always been amazed at how much the boy resembled Hiiro and now as their physical ages grew more even it was uncanny. He looked to be Hiiro’s twin instead of Ichiwa’s. ‘Father,’ the boy smiled, offering Duo his hand. ‘Otou-san,’ he added turning to Hiiro in a most dignified manner. Duo looked at Hiiro who raised a brow just before their son rolled his eyes and was double glomped until he was giggling like a girl and almost dropped the book in his hand. He barked loudly and regained his composure as another boy about his own age stepped off the ship and looked around. ‘Ooo, Papa, who’s that?’ Ichiwa grinned, admiring the boy’s obvious beauty. Sandy blond hair and bright hazel eyes set in a beautifully chiseled face with a warm smile. He bordered on angelic with his cool demeanor. ‘Hm?’ Hiiro hummed, glancing back. ‘Oh, that’s General Noventa’s nephew,’ he informed her. ‘He’s agreed to join us for the summer for some training exercises.’ Hiiro smiled when he saw the dreamy look in his daughter’s eyes. ‘Perhaps you could help,’ he suggested. ‘Kyle? ‘Kyle, this is Ichiwa, our daughter. She’ll be assisting us... Kyle?’ he said again as the boy’s attention was somewhat drifting. It was easily ascertained what had caught his attention as his son’s book hit the ground. ‘Or not,’ Hiiro smiled softly, turning to the boy as he nervously picked up the book. ‘San?’ he asked his furiously blushing male child, ‘Would you like to show Kyle…?’ ‘Sure,’ the boy piped up, smiling at the newcomer. ‘Would you like to see the dojo?’ ‘Yeah, that’d be great,’ Kyle grinned, his bright hazel eyes glittering in the sun as he smiled excitedly at the blue eyed boy. ‘Cool,’ San replied, amiably taking his arm and leading him away. ‘You’re gonna love it here. I can show you how…’ their voices trailed off as they disappeared down the path. Duo stepped up beside his lover and leaned one arm on his shoulder. ‘Guess he takes after his dad in more than just good looks,’ he grinned. ‘Indeed,’ Hiiro smiled but the smile fell short when he heard a small sigh behind him. ‘Don’t sweat it, Starshine,’ Duo consoled. ‘We brought you a playmate too. Hey Silvia!’ he shouted as another stranger appeared on the ramp. This one was a young girl about fifteen with shoulder length blond hair and a sweet smile. ‘Come meet our daughter, Ichiwa’. ‘Wow,’ Ichiwa whispered causing both her parents heads to turn slowly toward her as she approached the new girl. ‘Hi,’ she smiled. ‘I’m Ichiwa. So ... you’re Silvia, huh?’ ‘Yes,’ the girl replied. ‘You’re really going to be the Empress of the Universe?’ she sighed dreamily. ‘Naw,’ Ichiwa replied. ‘San’s stuck with that bit. I’m gonna be the enforcer!’ she gleamed. ‘Wow,’ the new girl sighed. ‘Hey, you want me to show ya around?’ ‘Yes,’ the girl blushed demurely. ‘That would be ...nice.’ They watched as the two girls walked slowly off into the shadows of the trees, talking softly with each other. Relena stepped up between them and smiled knowingly at her girl child as she took her new friends hand before they turned a corner and faded from view. ‘Thank god for artificial insemination,’ Duo breathed. ‘Must be something in the tea,’ Hiiro added. ‘Perhaps’ Relena interjected. ‘Now, if they’d just find a cure for the gaping fish face,’ she ginned, reaching up to push both of their mouths shut. owari :)
