Ch 17 ‘What is the meaning of this?’ Relena demanded as the shuttle was swallowed up by the battlestar. ‘Miss Relena,’ Dorothy’s calm, smooth voice came over the comm. ‘Please don’t concern yourself. We mean you no harm. However, even you must realize the importance of putting an end to this conflict.’ ‘We’re on a peaceful mission to Altron for that very purpose, Dorothy,’ the Princess spat angrily. It was the first time Hiiro had seen anything in her that resembled a fire. He was a little shocked by it. ‘I demand that you release us at once.’ ‘All will be well, my dear Princess,’ the girl replied coolly as she shut down the comm. ‘Get her back,’ Relena snapped at the pilot. ‘I can’t,’ the man replied. ‘This is unacceptable,’ she spat. ‘I demand that you take us out of here!’ ‘He can’t,’ Hiiro tried to tell her but she pulled away from him and wrung her hands. ‘This is wrong,’ she said to no one in particular. Hiiro recognized the signs of hysteria and tried to comfort her with a touch of his hand on her arm. ‘Relena...’ ‘No!’ she barked as the shuttle door banged as it was opened manually from the outside by the troops in the hangar. ‘I won’t stand for this!’ she shouted. ‘Stand back from the door and exit one by one,’ a man called from outside. ‘I demand you take me to Dorothy right now!’ Relena shouted, storming for the door as the steam swirled in the hatchway. It took only a moment for the men outside to react and less for Wufei and Hiiro to launch into action. Hiiro dove on the girl, knocking her to the ground just as an energy beam from one of the men’s rifles split the air where her chest had been as Wufei stepped up to shield her with his body, taking a hit on the lower left thigh in the process that dropped him to his knees though he remained upright and steadfast as he held his position between his lover and the men outside. The shock had worn off before they’d been deposited into a cell together a few minutes later and Relena had resumed her ranting demands to see Dorothy and be released. She was still yelling at the guards when the iron door swished shut leaving them alone in the cell. While she beat on the door fruitlessly Hiiro tended to Wufei’s injured leg and found it to be deeply grazed but otherwise intact. At least the beam had missed any major arteries or tendons. He was in a good deal of pain, however, as he cleaned it up. ‘Give it a break,’ the prince finally snapped at the ranting girl, growing tired of her endless whining. ‘This is a mistake,’ she exclaimed, turning to face him and wringing her hands some more. ‘There is an injured man in here!’ she shouted, beating on the door again. ‘You can’t just leave…’ ‘Will you please just shut up,’ Wufei groaned as Hiiro probed his leg looking for more serious damage. He’d gripped the back of the prince’s cloak in his effort to keep his balance while he tended the wound. She turned on him, her eyes glittering dangerously but whatever was going to spill from her lips was stifled by Hiiro’s next demand. ‘Take off your jacket.’ ‘What?’ she asked, stepping back and drawing the garment around her. ‘He needs a dressing,’ Hiiro explained tolerantly. ‘But... this is Egyptian Cotton...’ the girl began. ‘And this is the man that just saved your life,’ the prince huffed, holding out his hand. She looked somewhat confused for a moment then slipped the jacket off and began shredding it into strips for the dressing as she sat down on the bench next to them. ‘I’m sorry,’ she offered as she began to wrap the wound. ‘Is it bad?’ ‘I’ll live,’ the Chinese boy grinned. Hiiro leaned back and wrapped his arms around his raven haired lover comfortably while she finished the dressing. ‘Thank you,’ she said softly as she tied it off. ‘No problem,’ Wufei replied, leaning back into Hiiro’s arms tiredly. The prince turned him and let his head fall into his lap, one leg bent along the wall as he leaned back in the corner with the other foot on the floor and Wufei’s head on his thigh. ‘I don’t understand,’ she huffed after a moment. ‘Why are they doing this? We were so close to an agreement.’ ‘They have no intention of compromising’ Hiiro told her again. ‘Their goal isn’t peace, My Lady.’ ‘But why?’ she asked at a loss. ‘Why would anyone wish for war?’ He didn’t get a chance to answer as the door swished open again and two guards stepped in. ‘You, come with us,’ one said to Hiiro. ‘Where are you taking him?’ Relena asked, alarmed by the odd look in Hiiro’s eyes as he slipped out from under Wufei’s head. ‘Hiiro,’ the Chinese boy said softly, reaching out to cling to the prince. ‘It’ll be alright,’ Hiiro tried to reassure him as he offered the distraught princess a small smile. ‘Move!’ the guard barked, nailing the prince in the shoulder blade with the butt of his gun. Wufei rose instantly from the bench but stopped in the face of the blaster riffle that was leveled on him while Relena gasped and cowered back into a corner. Hiiro pulled himself up from his knees and they took him away. ‘Wh...what do they want with him?’ she asked as the door swished shut again. Wufei lay back on the bench and covered his eyes with one arm. He saw little reason to explain interrogation techniques to the girl. She’d find out soon enough. It turned out to be worse than he’d feared. When they dumped Hiiro onto the cell floor some three hours later the boy was black and blue and bleeding from several superficial wounds on his face and body. They’d apparently not figured out his broach as it was still attached around his neck but the silken material that covered him was torn in many places, revealing lacerated flesh and purpling skin. ‘Hiiro!’ Relena gasped as his body thudded loudly on the steel floor and the door swished shut again. She knelt down beside him and rolled him over gently as he groaned and managed a small smile for her. ‘You ok?’ Wufei asked, bending down to get a better look at his friend. ‘Sure’ Hiiro groaned. ‘No prob,’ he added as Wufei bundled the rest of Relena’s jacket up to use as a pillow. ‘They... beat you,’ the girl said softly in mild shock. ‘Yeah, well, that’s just their way of compromising,’ the prince chuckled then grimaced at the pain it caused. ‘What did they want?’ Wufei asked. Hiiro just shook his head sadly and turned away. ‘They didn’t ask me anything,’ he said softly. ‘Then why?’ Wufei breathed, touching Hiiro’s bruised face. His answer came with another swish of the door. They all looked up as Dorothy stepped into the cell with two guards in tow, smiling sweetly. ‘Dorothy!’ Relena growled, standing to face the longhaired girl. ‘What is the meaning of this? Why have you taken us prisoner!? Were you aware of the heinous crimes your men committed against a member of the Imperial...’ ‘My dear Miss Relena. please calm yourself.’ the longhaired girl cut in smoothly. ‘As you are so fond of pointing out I’m sure we can reach a compromise,’ she smiled. Relena’s jaw set as her fists clenched at her sides. ‘What do you want?’ she demanded. ‘Why…peace of course,’ Dorothy grinned. ‘We will be arriving on Altron within the hour,’ she went on. ‘Whereupon you, my dear Princess Relena, will be the one to stand before the Cosmic Council and announce to the galaxy that an agreement between the Tribarian Government and the rebellious order of the Kyuu fighters of Old Earth has been reached.’ ‘Fuck you,’ Hiiro groaned, turning his head to spit out some blood that had pooled in his mouth as he sat up. The comment earned him the butt of a riffle in the face. ‘Stop it!’ Relena shouted as Wufei’s eyes flashed black fire. Dorothy grinned. ‘Further more,’ she went on as if nothing had transpired, ‘you will announce an alliance between Old Earth and Annon Shugi, thereby giving you the authority to order the Kyuu fighters to stand down and surrender.’ Hiiro chuckled. ‘You’re crazy lady,’ he said. ‘My men won’t listen to her. Not while Duo’s alive.’ Dorothy’s smile turned decidedly evil as she replied. ‘Then we’ll just need to remedy that little problem won’t we?’ Hiiro’s eyes darkened dangerously as he replied, ‘You lay one finger on him and I’ll rip your pretty little throat out.’ She laughed lightly, disregarding the death in his eyes. ‘You should be more concerned over your own skin than your fancy little boy toy,’ she smiled. ‘What?’ Relena gasped, turning a questioning look on Hiiro. The prince’s dark glare never left the longhaired girl beside her. ‘He didn’t tell you?’ Dorothy smirked as if she’d just been given permission to cut the cake. ‘Oh my, we are full of dirty little secrets,’ she breathed, relishing the suspense as she walked over to Relena. ‘Our good prince has developed a taste for beautiful boys it would seem,’ she told the gapping girl. ‘The Toorima has been known to seduce and corrupt greater men than he, I assure you,’ she mock consoled as Relena’s face fell into confusion. ‘You... you’re in love with.... ‘I never led you on,’ Hiiro reminded her. ‘Yes but… Duo?’ she gasped in disbelief. ‘It doesn’t matter,’ he replied. ‘But... but he’s a boy!’ she gaped as confusion clouded her mind. ‘How could you want a boy over me?’ ‘Now, now, Miss Relena,’ Dorothy soothed, wrapping a hand around the distressed girls shoulders and leading her from the cell. ‘It’s not entirely his fault. This ...Duo. He’s the true evil behind all this,’ she crooned as she threw a demonic little grin over her shoulder and the door swished shut. ‘Shit,’ Hiiro groaned as Wufei helped him up. ‘Anything broken?’ the Chinese boy asked. ‘No,’ Hiiro replied. ‘Any idea’s on how to get out of here?’ he asked. ‘We can’t let them brainwash her into deceiving the Council.’ ‘Not unless you’ve got one of Quatre’s tricks up your sleeve that’ll help. The cells magnetically sealed,’ Wufei informed him. ‘Damn it,’ Hiiro moaned, leaning back on the bench as Wufei began to check over his wounds. ‘There must be some...’ he never got to finish the sentence as there was a loud bang outside and the door suddenly swished open again but this time the figure standing in the light was nothing more than an inky black spot. ‘Duo!’ Hiiro barked, trying to stand but wavering slightly as he leaned on Wufei’s shoulder. ‘Shit, leave you alone for half a fucking day and you end up a piñata for these fools,’ the braided boy groused, stepping into the cell. Hiiro prepared for the inevitable kiss but was only rewarded with a hand on his broach. Duo fingered the device and the slits and rips in the material slowly mended themselves. He was gratified to discover that the pain all but disappeared along with the holes. ‘How’d you...’ the prince began but was silence by the ‘you’re not seriously gonna ask me that right now’ look in his lover’s eyes. ‘They took Relena,’ he said softly instead. ‘No duh?’ Duo retorted. ‘Shit, what the fuck happened to you?’ ha added, noting the dressing on Wufei’s leg. ‘Lady Luck isn’t the sharpest needle in the pack,’ he replied. ‘Damn it,’ Duo growled. ‘Can you walk?’ he asked, dragging Hiiro toward the door. ‘Yeah,’ Wufei replied. ‘What’s the plan?’ ‘Get in, get you, get out,’ Duo retorted then dragged Hiiro into the hall. ‘Good plan,’ Wufei replied as he moved to follow. Hiiro was feeling better all the time as the adrenaline rush started to numb his aches and pains. He was practically moving on his own by the time they ran across a patrol in the halls and ended up in a fire fight. Duo tossed him a blaster then threw a scatter grenade into the midst of the soldiers, clearing the hall as the alarms sounded over head. ‘Come on!’ he shouted, pulling Hiiro along behind him as they made their way through the hall. As they rounded the next corner they ran smack into another small group of startled men, one of which fell instantly to Wufei’s sword, another went down with a broken neck as he collided with Hiiro and the third found himself locked in a kiss with Duo. Hiiro’s eyes went wide as he watched his lover kiss the flailing man then slowly his body began to twitch and he fell to the floor. ‘Lets go,’ the braided boy said as he let the convulsing man drop and led them on down the hall. Hiiro looked at the poor guy and made a note never to steal a kiss during combat situations. ‘Shit! I hate space ships!’ Duo groused as they moved along another well lit corridor. ‘Stay close,’ he said as they breezed along the wall. ‘Fei, take point. She’s on the left hand side. Get her out of here and head for the level C2 incinerator.’ ‘What?’ the Chinese boy hissed making a ‘are you out of your frigging tree?’ face at him. ‘It’s a straight shot, now go!’ Duo growled. ‘Fuck!’ Wufei grumbled. ‘Nothing’s worth this shit,’ he grumbled as he stepped around the corner and started shooting. Duo and Hiiro were close behind him, the detail with the Princess and Dorothy was large enough to cause them concern but Wufei managed to extract the Princess and carry her off down the hall before things got too ugly. In the end, Hiiro and Duo found themselves recaptured and pinned to the wall by several seriously pissed off guards. ‘They’ll never make it off this station,’ Dorothy panted in her fury as she bore down on the braided boy. Hiiro could see his skin crawling the closer she got but he showed no other sign of his discomfort. ‘You think you’ve won but you haven’t got a clue as to the true power of the Tribarian fleet,’ she sneered, slamming her hands on either side of his head and looked him in the eyes. Hiiro saw the shudder run through his lover and prayed he’d find the strength to hold together as the girl’s face slipped into a maniacal smile. She glanced over at Hiiro, narrowing her eyes at the look of concern on his face then turned back to Duo and considered him. ‘I’ve always wondered if you taste as good as people say,’ she smiled as she leaned over and laid her lips on his. Hiiro could see him shaking with the effort of holding his ground, small rivers of blood dripped from his palms where his nails had cut the skin before she began to shake and fell to the floor. The braided boy took advantage of the momentary shock in the guards to kill two of them and kiss a third as Hiiro freed himself. Once his last man had fallen he turned to find his lover lying on the floor shaking as if he’d been flash frozen and sprang to his side. ‘Duo!’ he shouted, pulling him up so he could look at him but the boy’s eyes were dilated and fixed. ‘Damn it!’ he barked, picking him up and heading for level C2. He had no idea how the hell he was supposed to get them seventeen levels down without being recaptured but he knew he had to try. ‘Ga...bage chute,’ Duo rasped as they passed by one and suddenly Hiiro understood his logic as he skidded to a halt and back stepped to the chute dumping Duo into it then following. They whizzed through the twists and turns of the station’s disposal system then were dumped into the basin of the C2 incinerator. ‘Duo?’ Hiiro asked, turning his lover over again to check him over. ‘Get us... out of here,’ the boy gasped. ‘Ship... outer hull… C2... leach,’ he shivered and couldn’t say anymore but Hiiro got the point and started looking around for the leach dock that meant Duo had breached the ships thin outer hull where the remaining ash would be jettisoned into open space after incarnation. He found it in the third chamber just as he heard the fires kick on and felt the heat at his back. He pushed Duo through then climbed through himself and shouted for Wufei to go. They pulled away, breaking the connection as the flames chased them into the night. A moment later they were safely traveling through hyperspace and Hiiro was tucking Duo into one of the cabin’s bunks. ‘Duo?’ he asked uncertainly as the boy’s head lolled around. He still wasn’t coherent and his pupils were so huge his eyes were black. ‘Duo, what is it?’ he asked. He couldn’t imagine this was a reaction to his fear of women. Something else was wrong. On a whim he grabbed a cloth and washed the boy’s mouth then bent and kissed him softly but his lips were cold and unresponsive. ‘Duo?’ he called again as he pulled back. ‘What happened?’ Wufei asked as he joined them. ‘I don’t know,’ Hiiro replied. ‘She kissed him then he ... shit, what’s wrong with him?’ the prince asked, desperately rubbing the boy’s icy hands. ‘Here,’ Wufei said bending to open the storage compartment under the bunk. ‘Try this,’ he suggested, pulling the sulfur and silver that had been stored there for Quatre’s use from the drawer. Hiiro took the items and prepared to begin the spell. He’d managed some small success with the healing over the months. He just hoped it would be enough to at least help them find out what was wrong. ‘Nnnn,’ Duo moaned after a time. Hiiro was sweating from his enormous effort to hold the healing power still long enough for it to work. ‘Bitch,’ the braided boy cursed as his eyes began to focus. ‘Kiss me,’ he whispered, clawing at Hiiro’s shirt. The prince was only too happy to oblige, letting himself sink down into the revived form of his lover’s embrace as relief filled his chest. ‘What happened?’ he asked, still ghosting his lips over the boy’s skin as he hovered over him reassuringly. Duo was holding him so tight he couldn’t have moved away if he’d wanted to. ‘Other than that cunt kissing me?’ the boy sneered, stealing another kiss. ‘Fuck, that was gross,’ he breathed then deepened the kiss again, pulling the prince down tight as if his mouth could wash away the memory. Hiiro let him have his fill before he pulled back and asked again. ‘Why’d you spaz out like that?’ ‘Bitch was wearing nitrine lipstick,’ he told him. ‘Nitrine?’ Wufei’s brows creased as he whistled low. ‘No wonder. That’s some serious shit.’ ‘But that’s an illegal drug,’ Relena said, appearing the doorway. They all just turned and looked at her like she was stupid for a moment then turned back to the matter at hand. ‘That means she’s been altered to be immune to bensodine derivatives,’ Wufei pointed out sitting beside the braided boy. ‘Damn,’ Hiiro sighed. ‘You’d think the man would have more respect for his own family.’ ‘You catch the preset course?’ Duo asked Wufei. ‘Yeah,’ the Chinese boy replied. ‘Are we going to meet the others there?’ Duo nodded. ‘Sorry to drag your folks into this,’ he offered. ‘There just wasn’t a lot of choice after they bagged you.’ ‘We’re going to China Seti II?’ Hiiro asked. ‘But we have to attend the summit!’ Relena objected. ‘Altron isn’t safe right now,’ Hiiro tried to explain but the girl only huffed. ‘When the Council learns of this they’ll…’ ‘They’ve already denied the incident ever took place. Tuberov’s accused Hiiro of taking you prisoner in order to assure the cooperation of the Council and the Peacecraft Alliance of Worlds,’ Wufei informed her. ‘It’s in the news archives in the vid, go look for yourself,’ he told her as she looked at him in disbelief then turned to go do just that. ‘She’s not takin’ this well is she?’ Duo sighed. ‘Dorothy told her about us,’ Hiiro informed him. ‘Fucking bitch,’ the braided boy groaned. ‘Don’t let her make any calls until we’ve had a chance to talk,’ he told them. Wufei nodded, then leaned down to kiss him gently. ‘Welcome back,’ he smiled softly. ‘Don’t ever let that bitch touch me again,’ Duo shuddered. ‘I can still taste her damn venom in my throat,’ he cringed. ‘Perhaps,’ Hiiro smiled, reaching over to shut the door. ‘We could work on removing that memory,’ he grinned as he leaned over for another kiss. ‘Just don’t let her worship hear,’ Duo warned. ‘We still need her.’ ‘Fei?’ Hiiro whispered as the Chinese boy began to disrobe. ‘Hmm?’ he replied. ‘I think we’ll be needing a gag.’ Hiiro smiled down at his lover’s impish face as the sound of material ripping broke the air behind him and Wufei replied, ‘No problem.’
