Ch 14 The fleet never knew what hit them. Within the next two hours Earth was free of the oppressive power of the Tribarian fleet; it would only be a matter of time before the land troops were brought under control without their mother ships to back them up but it was far from over. Tribar was still a formidable force and held a good deal of power in the Cosmic Council. This was where the alliance with Annon Shugi would be vital. Hiiro took a deep breath as he finished his sweep of the field, making sure he’d not left any ships that might threaten his home before he turned the war machine Wing Zero toward the pacifist planet. He and Duo arrived on Beta Prime, Annon Shugi’s greater moon, at the same time just a couple of minutes behind the rest of their team. Hiiro had disembarked and was walking toward the group of their companions gathered on the forest floor in the valley they’d chosen to land in when Duo suddenly landed on his head and dragged him to the ground. He was instantly drawn into the boy’s heat as he kissed him and tried to crawl under his clothes right there in the grassy meadow. ‘Duo! G...geez! Wait... ahh!’ ‘No,’ was all the braided boy said before his cloak, broach and everything else suddenly disappeared, leaving him stark naked as he writhed on top of the Japanese prince in the waning sunlight of the moon valley. The other three boys just smiled and shook their heads as Hiiro rolled over on top of his overexcited lover, lost in the swell of passion that rose up between them. ‘You’re not going to join them?’ Quatre asked as Wufei followed him and Trowa from the field into the small shack in the edge of the trees where they would spend the night. Wufei shook his head and glanced back at them, Hiiro’s cloak had vanished as well, leaving the two boys naked in the evening sun as they slowly moved together among the tall grasses and wild flowers. ‘What they share I am only a small part of,’ he smiled fondly as he entered the shack behind the other too. ‘But they care for you as well,’ Trowa pointed out. ‘We all do,’ Quatre added, slipping up to give the Chinese boy a hug. Wufei sighed and pulled him close, resting his cheek on his soft, blond head. ‘Thank you,’ he said smiling gently as he relaxed and enjoyed the affection. Quatre held him for a moment then turned his head up and kissed him. Wufei really didn’t realize what he was doing until he felt his signature heat begin to stir in his belly but by then he couldn’t bring himself to stop. It was too nice so he just let himself fall into the fire. His head was blanketed in a deep fog that settled over his mind and prickled on his skin by the time the slight blond pulled away. He felt his breath hitch when he looked into those bottomless, ocean blue eyes as the blond boy smiled up at him. Trowa’s hand was touching his cheek before he even remembered the tall boy was in the room but his presence was made crystal clear when the Chinese boy’s black eyes lifted to meet with Trowa’s smoldering emerald green. ‘Have you changed your mind?’ Trowa asked softly, running his fingertips along the raven haired boy’s jaw line. Wufei felt himself shiver under the touch, an action that drew a huge smile from Quatre as Trowa grinned and leaned over his lover’s shoulder to kiss the Chinese boy. Wufei’s eyes closed slowly, his sooty lashes brushing along Trowa’s taut cheek as he added his energy to the mix and pressed Quatre’s slight form between them. Wufei shuddered again; perhaps there had been some small amount of denial in his heart after all. Hiiro sucked in a huge breath as his lungs labored to replenish his body. His head was still spinning out of control in the darkened shadows of the night that had fallen over them as they lay together in the field. The ominous silhouettes of the huge mobile suits that had brought them to this place loomed in the background as he shivered from the sheer force of his lover’s presence and kissed the salty, sweet droplets from the corners of his eyes. Duo swallowed hard, trying to moisturize his dry throat as his chest heaved under Hiiro’s comfortable weight. ‘Ahh… god damn, yes,’ he groaned as Hiiro pressed him into the warm ground. ‘Jesus, don’t ever stop,’ he breathed heavily, wrapping his body tighter around his lover and holding him firm. As much as he was enjoying the intensity of Duo’s affections Hiiro could feel something was up. He’d never felt such a powerful, all consuming heat as Duo had just poured into him. It bordered on desperation. ‘What’s wrong?’ he asked gently, tasting his delicately flavored neck and collarbone. Duo held him tight for a long moment before he finally let him pull back and look into his eyes. Hiiro’s breath caught in his throat. He still couldn’t comprehend that this boy was real and right there in his arms. He was just too beautiful for words. He tried to set aside the fact that his lover’s eyes were swimming in the stars that were reflected in their violet depths and forced himself to concentrate on what he was saying. ‘It’d be for the greater good,’ Duo said softly. ‘What?’ Hiiro asked then realized what he was talking about and smiled as he kissed his chin. ‘Oh, that,’ he amended. ‘You really think so?’ he asked, tucking in for another taste of his neck. ‘It would bring... umm, shit,’ he paused under the delectable sensation of Hiiro’s lips on his skin. ‘You know... order or... something... damn, you need to stop that if we’re gonna talk cuz your frying my neural net here,’ the braided boy whispered, tightening his legs around the prince’s hips. Hiiro chuckled but pulled back and sighed softly. ‘I have no intention of marrying the Princess of Annon Shugi,’ he smiled tolerantly. ‘But your father’s right, ya know?’ Duo argued. ‘She has a lot of influence in the Council. It’d be a good match to draw others into the fight.’ ‘If they haven’t enough conscience to join of their own volition then what good are they in the long run?’ Hiiro asked, leaning back down for another taste of the boy’s collar bone. ‘They have armies,’ Duo pointed out as his eyes drifted shut. ‘Armies that desire the Gundainium for themselves,’ Hiiro countered as he rocked into his lover again. Duo groaned softly and arched back on the ground rising to meet Hiiro’s advance. ‘You should at least consider it,’ the braided boy whispered, pulling him down for another kiss. ‘If only for politics’ sake.’ ‘The only way I will ever marry is if you will have me,’ Hiiro swore, brushing the long bangs from his eyes. ‘Hiiro?’ Duo whispered heatedly, pushing his hips into Hiiro’s. ‘Hmmmmmm?’ the prince groaned, responding in kind as the heat spread through him once again and coaxed him into beginning the dance anew. ‘Don’t ever stop,’ Duo hissed, drawing him back down into the blissful haze. It was late night before they found the energy to drag themselves into the shack and get out of the night air. Duo busted out laughing the moment they opened the door and saw Wufei curled up in a pile of pillows on the floor with Trowa and Quatre. ‘Fuck you,’ the Chinese boy’s sleepy voice growled in the darkness. A moment later the braided boy disappeared as Trowa jerked him down to into the pile with them. Hiiro chuckled and watched as the three boys punished his lover for his impudence by wrestling him to the floor and tickling him breathless. ‘T…Traitor!’ Duo gasped. ‘Say uncle!’ Quatre squealed, attacking the braided boy’s ribs. ‘Bite me!’ Duo cackled. ‘Say it!’ Trowa commanded, working on his underarm. ‘E...eat me... ha ha. No, no, wait!
Wufei’s head popped up as they pinned him to the floor and turned to Hiiro. ‘I think he needs the belly buster,’ he grinned. ‘NO!’ Duo barked, squirming to get away. ‘Not...not the… Hiiro don’t you dare!’ he laughed, twisting as the Japanese boy knelt between his knees and smiled demonically. ‘Not the belly busterrrrr!’ he howled as Hiiro darted under his shirt and laid a huge raspberry on his stomach. The resulting giggle fit was so violent he actually managed to break free but not before Hiiro had dealt the devastating blow and lay breathless on top of him. ‘Ahh, geez... man,’ Duo huffed, hugging him tight as the others piled up around them. ‘Mmmmmm,’ he groaned, kissing his lover’s hair then squeezing him tight. ‘Damn… don’t ever stop,’ he smiled as they all curled up together in a comfortable pile to dream the night away. Hiiro got his second look at Relena Peacecraft the next morning when they touched down in the Sanc Kingdom. He was even less impressed than the first time. Everything about the girl screamed fairytales and idealism. He could see why she was well received in the Council. She’d be the prefect patsy to keep everyone talking while the wheels turned under her feet. His first instinct upon seeing the disapproving gleam in her eyes as they descended in their suits was to get her a glass of water and send her off to bed. He was even more convinced she was nothing more than a spoiled child the moment she opened her mouth. ‘Welcome to the Kingdom of Sanc,’ she said, curtsying prettily. The boys all offered her a low bow in return with which she seemed very satisfied. She went on with a long, formal introduction and instructions as to what was expected of them during their stay such as when dinner was served and what attire to wear. After a short tour of the Peacecraft Manor she showed them to a cottage on the grounds, informing Hiiro that his friends were welcome to use it during their stay. ‘I believe you will find this most adequate,’ she was saying. ‘There are four upper bedrooms so you’ll each have your own quarters and a private kitchen if you have need of it.’ ‘You’re too kind,’ Wufei smiled wryly, lifting one brow at Hiiro in a half smirk. ‘And where would my quarters be?’ Hiiro asked, suspicious that he already knew the answer. ‘In the main house of course,’ she laughed lightly. ‘I’ve arranged for you to stay in the room adjacent to my own,’ she smiled. ‘It’ll give us some time to get acquainted.’ ‘I require the company of my fellows,’ Hiiro explained, stepping up to Duo’s side. None of the boys were so callous as to flaunt their closeness in front of a lady but he wasn’t about to stand for being housed in a separate building all together. She looked a bit put out. ‘It would hardly be fitting for the future Emperor of Earth to reside in a guest house,’ she smiled but it died quickly when she saw the fire erupt in Hiiro’s dark blue eyes. ‘A man is not made king by the house he resides in, My Lady,’ he said smoothly. ‘Of course not,’ she replied in a dignified manner though her eyes clearly reflected her discomfort over the matter. ‘Perhaps there are enough rooms available in the main house…’ ‘This will serve our needs,’ Hiiro interrupted, walking up the front porch steps of the house. ‘But... there are only four rooms,’ she protested. ‘We’ll make do,’ he smiled, grinning wider as Duo attempted not to break out laughing. She looked like she might protest further but decided against it. ‘I’ll have your things brought down from the house,’ she said finally. ‘My things?’ Hiiro asked. ‘Proper dinner wear and attire,’ she replied, eyeing the ebony silk that adorned his body. ‘Riding boots,’ she added, taking in the shadowy encasement on his feet. ‘Are we here on vacation?’ Hiiro asked coolly. ‘You are most generous, you’re Majesty,’ Duo cut in smoothly before she could baulk to badly. ‘Our generosity does not extend to the royal treasury and the security on the grounds has been alerted to your presence,’ she informed him coldly. ‘Please conduct yourself as a gentleman during your stay here.’ Hiiro’s mouth fell open to verbalize the fire in his eyes but once again Duo defused the explosion. ‘You flatter me, Lady,’ he purred, bowing low. ‘Only one of your intelligence and grace would think me capable of desecrating such a delicate flower as the Peacecraft Manor. I assure you, you have nothing to fear while I am present among your company,’ he smiled. She gathered herself up and looked down her nose at him for a moment before she turned and informed the others, ‘Dinner is formal and served at seven. Please be prompt.’ She turned back to glare at Duo but he was gone so she just looked around for a second before inclining her head and leaving them to get settled. ‘Charming girl,’ Wufei smiled, following the others into the house. ‘Still think I should think about it?’ Hiiro asked the emptiness inside as he turned on the light. ‘Ah!’ Duo yelped, falling from the corner of the ceiling to thud on the floor. They all paused a moment to stare at him. ‘Nnn, don’t ask,’ he groaned, rolling over on his back. ‘She seems like a nice enough chick,’ he answered his gaping lover. ‘There’s definitely a lack of sex appeal...’ he added, rolling up to his knees and crawling across the floor toward Hiiro. ‘You might wanna drop her in a tub of hot chocolate and see if she warms up a little,’ he grinned, stopping to gnaw on Hiiro inseam. ‘I can barely keep up with this lot. What in the hell do we need her for?’ Hiiro countered, laying his hand on Duo’s hair as his leg was getting a bit weak in the knee. ‘Leverage,’ Duo replied, sitting back to look up at him. ‘Be nice,’ he added, springing to his feet. ‘Now,’ he said, clapping his hands together as an evil gleam settled in his eyes. ‘Shall we see what tasty treats she’s got up her skirt?’ ‘You wouldn’t go within twenty feet of her skirt,’ Wufei chuckled. ‘That would all depend on what treasures she might be harboring in the folds,’ the braided boy grinned, producing a gem encrusted garter belt. The others gaped mildly as he slipped it in a pocket. ‘You told her you wouldn’t steal from her,’ Hiiro admonished, slipping his arms around his waist from behind. ‘Did I?’ the longhaired boy grinned, turning to offer him a kiss. Hiiro thought back on the conversation and realized Duo had said nothing of the sort. He chuckled and pulled the boy closer, nuzzling his neck. ‘You wanna clean up before dinner?’ Hiiro asked low in his throat. The taste of Duo’s skin was bringing back some rather nice memories of the night before. ‘Mmmm, there’ll be a shower,’ Duo sighed, relishing the feel of Hiiro’s kisses. ‘Mmm,’ the prince agreed. ‘And hot water... and probably a tub.’ ‘Most likely,’ Hiiro agreed, turning him in his arms so he could kiss him properly. Duo sank into the kiss, happily pulling him down deeper into himself. They were already moving toward the stairs when he pulled away and said softly. ‘Fei?’ ‘Yeah?’ the Chinese boy smiled. ‘Grab the bubble bath,’ the braided boy instructed as he followed his Japanese lover up the steps. ‘You think this place has more than one bath?’ Trowa asked, slipping an arm around the blond boy. ‘Trowa?’ Quatre breathed softly, leaning into him. ‘What is it?’ the tall boy asked, mildly alarmed by his lover’s state of distress. ‘I’m not sure,’ Quatre replied, leaning into his strong embrace to bury his head in his shoulder as Trowa pulled him tight. ‘Something…’ the blond boy said softly. Trowa could feel the disconcertion in him so he kissed him to remind him he wasn’t alone. Whatever they faced they’d face it together but he didn’t push the subject. It was clear Quatre had little more to offer at the moment so he turned their attention back to that bath and led his lover into the gentle warmth of the water. They dressed for dinner using the clothes the Princess had sent for Hiiro. She’d been more than generous and even though Quatre was too thin and Trowa a bit tall they managed to pull together a few ensembles that passed very well for formal dinner wear. Hiiro had refused to wear any of it at all, opting to follow Duo’s lead and use his broach to obtain something suitable. He looked pretty damn good in the straight black coat with a high collar. Duo, however, seemed unable to draw anything less than short tails from the broach. He’d tried several times before Wufei insisted he settle before Hiiro ended up taking him back upstairs again. Relena was obviously less than pleased about their ingenuity. Her disappointment that Hiiro had rejected her gifts put a dark discontentment in her eyes before they’d been seated at the long table. Duo had gone ominously quiet as they were introduced to the other guests. General Noventa was a well known pacifist leader that seemed to be on familiar terms with the Princess as he greeted her and kissed both her cheeks, smiling warmly. General Septum was less than warm, giving only a tolerant bow. Hiiro felt Duo recoil slightly as the man passed by. It was the long haired blond girl introduced as Dorothy Catalonia that truly seemed to crease the braided boy’s edges. Duo had actually faded in behind Hiiro when the girl glided by. Her smile even gave Hiiro the willies. The Japanese prince was more than a little concerned when they found that the seating arrangements left Duo on Dorothy’s left side at the other end of the table while he was tucked in beside Relena at the head. His lover’s reluctance to warm up to the longhaired girl went way beyond gynophobia. There was obviously something there Hiiro was unaware of. It came to light as the conversation around the table turned to foreign affairs. ‘We understand the need for change,’ Noventa was saying to Hiiro. ‘However, the current methods are extracting a heavy toll in human life. Wouldn’t it be better to invite Duke Dermail to the bargaining table and work things out diplomatically?’ Hiiro was prepared to answer but was cut off by a light, icy laugh from the other end of the table. ‘My uncle would sooner slit his own wrist as strike a deal with you now,’ Dorothy informed them coolly. ‘Prince Hiiro’s efforts have cost him billions. He’ll not be so easily swayed.’ ‘But surely there can be a compromise,’ Relena insisted. ‘There will be no compromise,’ Hiiro stated flatly. The Princess’s blue eyes flashed at his words. She clearly did not approve. After a moment she softened around the edges and smiled at him. ‘Hiiro,’ she began in a tolerant voice one might use with a child. ‘We all understand things cannot continue as before. However,’ she added, leaning over to put her hand on top of his where it lay on the table, ‘In order to bring about peace, we must compromise.’ Hiiro picked up her hand and gave it a squeeze and was just about to tell her just what he thought of her opinion when Duo cut him off. ‘You gonna give‘em your hand instead of the arm they demanded?’ he asked smiling like a banshee on a high. She looked affronted whereas the rest of the table all sat back a little as their interest was peaked. Duo was not known for his interjections in the public forum. He didn’t give her time to respond, rising from his seat and walking around the table. Hiiro got the feeling he just wanted to be anywhere but at Dorothy’s side. ‘What’yu think, Septum? Think Dermail’ll tell Tubers to knock it off now that he’s lookin’ up the ass of five Gundam’s?’ he smiled, stopping to lean one elbow on the back of Hiiro’s chair. ‘Don’t assume your victory so easily,’ the stiff backed man replied. ‘Duke Dermail is a man of many recourses and has conducted his affairs well within the legal limits. Tribar is not so easily intimidated as to allow a group of rebels to deny them their right open commerce.’ ‘The Duke must realize that it is his own system that has allowed for the dominance of many of the lesser worlds of this galaxy,’ Relena jumped in. ‘However, it will also be necessary for all powers involved to lay down their weapons and strive to reach an agreement that will best serve all peoples involved.’ ‘Well said,’ Noventa cut in, smiling at her warmly. ‘Regretfully,’ Hiiro offered, consciously not reaching for his lover although he was acutely aware of his presence beside him. ‘Laying down arms would accomplish nothing but to allow the mining of the ore to begin again. Dermail has no intention of bargaining and no conscience as to the suffering brought about by the refinement of this metal.’ ‘The Duke is within his legal rights,’ Relena pointed out. ‘Yes,’ Dorothy purred. ‘Your interference with the lawful distribution of Gundainium is what crosses the lines of oppressive enforcement.’ ‘That may be,’ Noventa interjected. ‘But there are many worlds that already stand behind the movement due to the suffering caused by the unbalanced distribution of Gundainium. The people’s wishes must not be ignored.’ ‘Humans crave a sense of order,’ Dorothy tossed in. ‘It matters little who the shepherd is to the sheep.’ ‘Well now,’ Duo grinned. ‘Let’s all be sure to log that little gem away.’ The girl’s light blue eyes narrowed on him. ‘Every shepherd must deal with a stray now and then,’ she said icily. ‘Touché pussycat,’ Duo smiled. ‘Let’s see what happens when the black sheep bites back.’ ‘Honestly,’ Relena interjected. ‘One would expect such talk from a cold blooded assassian.’ Hiiro took a turn to narrow his eyes on that one. ‘However,’ she went on, ignoring his chilling demeanor. ‘It isn’t so difficult for civilized people to reach an agreement that will benefit all involved.’ ‘There is only one solution to this,’ Hiiro offered smoothly. ‘The Council must illegalize the mining and refinement of Gundainium, thereby restoring the balance of power between worlds. Anything less would be an open betrayal toward the people we now protect.’ ‘Protect?’ Septum snorted. ‘You use these people as a shield to blind the Council. Everyone knows your true intention is to avenge your lost mother.’ ‘General,’ Dorothy warned coolly. The man scoffed slightly but realized his error in bringing up the deceased Empress of Old Earth. ‘As tempting as that may be,’ Hiiro replied evenly with the aid of Duo’s fingertips brushing his shoulder ‘Vengeance is an empty goal in the end. I will, however, see her dream of equality and freedom for all people fulfilled.’ ‘Good,’ Relena sighed, smiling at him. ‘Then you will join me at the summit and we will stand together to bring an end to this conflict once and for all.’ ‘Can you assure his safe passage?’ Quatre asked, concerned for his lover and friend. ‘I can grant him immunity under the laws of sanctuary from the Sanc Kingdom,’ the girl explained with a satisfied smile. ‘What about Duo?’ Hiiro asked but Duo snorted and chuckled even as her face registered mild shock that he’d even ask. The braided boy leaned down close to his ear and whispered conspiratorially ‘I doubt I’m welcome on snob hill after the Hanes execution.’ ‘The council does not take kindly to having its members assassinated in open forum,’ Relena added coldly. ‘I’ll try to keep it off the floor from now on,’ Duo replied. ‘Someone should accompany him,’ Quatre insisted. ‘There is the danger that others will take advantage of the open court.’ ‘I’ll go,’ Wufei offered. ‘That would be acceptable,’ Relena agreed. ‘Forgive me, your Highness,’ an old servant interrupted. ‘Master Zechs has returned,’ he announced as the tall, blond man entered the room behind him. ‘Zechs.’ Relena smiled brightly and rose to greet him with a small kiss on the cheek which he returned. ‘How was your trip?’ ‘Wonderful, as always,’ he smiled. ‘But I’m afraid I must steal your company away if I may?’ ‘Of course,’ she agreed amiably though her expression was one of mild curiosity. She refrained from asking as the boys rose to follow him from the dinning hall. ‘Forgive my intrusion,’ Zechs smiled as he led them down the hall. ‘No prob,’ Duo grinned. ‘It was a boring conversation anyway. So, what’s put a burr under your saddle, anyhow, Zexy?’ Hiiro’s brow went up at the endearment ‘You’ll never grow up, will you?’ Zechs chuckled. ‘You know each other?’ Hiiro asked, once again thrown off balance by his lover’s diverse connections. ‘Oh, we’ve bumped into one another here and there,’ Duo grinned. Hiiro wasn’t sure he liked the sound of that. ‘I wish,’ Zechs laughed. Hiiro was certain he did like the sound of that. ‘Aww, come on Zexy, babe, who’d untangle us if we went there?’ Duo jibbed, tossing a strand of Zechs platinum blond hair in the air. ‘I’d be willing to tie it back,’ the man smiled, throwing his hair over his shoulder. ‘Ooo, you’re such a tease,’ Duo poked. Zechs’ eyes went wide. ‘Me?’ he gasped, pushing open a set of double doors. It took only an instant for the boys to recognize the man inside the room. Hiiro’s blaster was out and leveled on him, Duo had disappeared and Quatre and Trowa were standing at the ready at Hiiro’s back before he’d turned fully to greet them. The only one that hadn’t gone straight for a weapon was Wufei and he seemed to be in some form of mild shock. ‘Wait!’ Zechs barked, moving to stand between them. ‘He’s here as an ally!’ ‘What do you want here, Treize,’ Hiiro asked evenly, tightening his grip on his blaster. Treize Khushrenada was the known leader of the Tribarian Special Forces. It had come to light over the past two months as intelligence was gathered from deserters and prisoners of war that he was in the midst of planning a coup that would, in the end, divide the Tribarian military. What his intentions were other than that was unclear to them but they weren’t happy to see him just the same. ‘He’s brought us vital information,’ Zechs went on. ‘What?’ Hiiro asked point blank, aiming the blaster right through Zechs’ head at the man behind him. ‘Dermail has been building a space station in the Gartarian Sector,’ Treize smoothly informed them. ‘What?’ Quatre gasped, reaching for a chair. ‘It’s called Libra and it carries enough fire power to destroy full continents with one shot from its beam cannon,’ Treize went on. ‘Why are you telling us this?’ Hiiro asked. ‘Well,’ Treize sighed. ‘Other than the fact that it’s the reason I’m here, your lover has a knife to the back of my neck and I’d really prefer not to have my spinal cord severed,’ he smiled. ‘So you’ve decided to step back across the line,’ Wufei said, stepping up to the front of the group. ‘Hello, Wufei,’ the ginger haired man smiled. ‘You still don’t see the logic of my plan,’ he chuckled. ‘I see it,’ the Chinese boy countered. ‘I still don’t agree with it,’ he corrected him. Treize laughed. ‘No, I suppose you wouldn’t. We must all decide what true integrity is after all,’ he added, holding out his hand. Wufei looked at it for a moment then took it and allowed himself to be drawn toward the taller man. ‘I’ve missed you,’ Treize said softly as he took him in his arms and kissed him softly. Hiiro’s blaster arm slowly lowered as his mouth dropped open and Duo’s dark form popped up from behind the tall man a ‘what the fuck is this shit?’ look on his face as he pointed at the pair then rolled his eyes. ‘Bastard,’ Wufei breathed when the man pulled back from the tender kiss. Treize chuckled again. ‘As elegant as ever,’ he smiled, brushing his hand along his cheek. ‘Excuse me,’ Hiiro interjected. ‘Fei, what in the hell’s going on here?’ ‘Fei?’ Treize echoed, raising a brow at the dark haired boy in his arms. Wufei just kind of grinned and blushed a deep crimson red. ~ * ~ tbc... |
