" Gay Bar"

“Come with us.”

“Uh, thanks but…”

“Leave him alone, Quatre.”

“Why not?” the blond grinned. “It’ll be fun. We’ll just go have a couple of drinks…”

“I don’t think…”

“Why can’t you just accept that Duo’s not gay?” Wufei sighed.

“It has nothing to do with his sexuality,” Quatre huffed. “I just thought he might like to get out for a bit and…”

“And meet someone nice?” Trowa smiled inching a bit closer to the blond.

“Well, yeah.”

“At a gay bar?” Wufei chuckled.

“Just come along for… for the fun of it,” Quatre beamed.

“Quat,” Duo squirmed scratching the back of his neck. “I appreciate it and all but… I’ve never been to one of those places, you know? It sounds a bit…”

“It is,” Wufei laughed.

“Which is the main reason you go,” Trowa smiled giving in and slipping an arm around his lover’s waist.

“Trowa,” Quatre sighed but refrained from pushing him away in spite of the fact that they were still at the office.

“You don’t have to come,” Wufei offered their anxious looking friend.

“He’d definitely brighten the place up,” Trowa smiled.

“No one’s going to bother you,” Quatre reassured.

“Bullshit!” Wufei chortled adding, “They’ll be all over him like white on rice,” when Duo’s eyes went large and round.

“They’re not that bad,” Quatre insisted.

“Some of them are,” Wufei countered.

“Yes,” the blond replied, “But you’re already with us so he’s safe.”

“Come along,” Trowa smiled rocking his lover gently to and fro and Quatre smiled to shame the sun when Duo’s eyes conceded.

Daubers was packed as usual for a Friday night. The band was already playing a happy pop beat when they arrived sending a healthy vibe throughout the dark club. Men and women adorned in every color and fabric known to man milled about and Duo felt his cheeks go from an uncomfortable pink to bright crimson when a man in black rubber and a bare chest squeezed by and winked at him.

“He’s taken!” Wufei grinned as the guy openly checked Duo out but he seemed happy enough to look Wufei over too so the Chinese boy smiled and added, “Save me a dance!” before the man was swallowed up by the crowd.

“Starting a bit early aren’t you?” Quatre laughed pushing after Trowa who pulled him along by the hand toward the bar.

“Bringing him along might not have been a bad idea after all!” Wufei grinned over the thrumming music.

“It’s very loud!” Duo interjected then suddenly barked and spun around but there were so many smiling guys behind him he had no clue who had pinched his ass.

“Get used to it!” Wufei laughed shoving the people behind him back so Trowa could dispense the drinks.

“Yeah,” the taller boy smiled handing Duo something brilliant orange and red. “A cute ass is as good as a bulls eye in here!”

“Now you tell me!” Duo laughed.

“Here!” Trowa said handing the drink he’d just given his lover and his own to their braided friend. “Hold these a minute!”

Duo cupped the two glasses in one hand only barely able to keep them from spilling as Trowa pushed his giggling lover out onto the dance floor.

“Hi!”

“You’re back already!?” Wufei grinned at the man who had winked at Duo on the way in.

“I happened to have an open ticket,” the man smiled giving Duo another once over before offering his hand to Wufei. “You still want it?”

“Sure!” the Chinese boy smiled tucking his drink into Duo’s arms just before the larger man picked him up and carried him away laughing his ass off.

Duo smiled as he watched his friends, Trowa’s ability to capture and restrain his elusive lover was comical at the worst of times and he just couldn’t believe the usually reserved Wufei was doing the bump and grind with some guy he’d just met. As much as he hated to admit it having gay friends wasn’t the worst thing that could have happened to him. Sure, they were different but they’d proven to be the best friends anyone could ask for. All in all he was having a decent time in spite of himself when a strange tenor cut through the din and tickled along his spine.

“Excuse me, but would you like to join me?”

“What?” Duo replied gasping softly when he turned to find the smooth sound was coming from a guy with the most incredible blue eyes he’d ever seen. “Um… I don’t…”

“I have a table,” the guy explained moving back to show him the empty seats. “Unless those are all yours?” he asked flashing a half smile that sort of made Duo’s knees feel funny.

“Oh, right,” he chuckled. “Thanks. I hadn’t had a chance to look for anywhere to sit.”

“You won’t find anything else,” the guy smiled taking two of the drinks and leading him to his table.

“It is a bit crowded,” Duo agreed.

“Please, have a seat.”

“Umm… I’m just here with my friends…” Duo began but the guy cut him off by pulling a chair out for him.

“I would very much like to be included in that company,” he smiled so graciously Duo had no will to resist and sank into the chair. “I’m Hiiro,” he offered taking the chair next to him.

“Duo,” he replied offering his hand which Hiiro took but did not readily let go of and Duo suddenly felt his blood go hot. “I’m not gay.”

Hiiro laughed so it made it ok when Duo laughed and the awkward moment was transformed into something… comfortable until he commented, “I hope you won’t hold it against me if I try to change your mind.”

Would you? went though Duo’s mind so fast he knew his color was doing some interesting things. “Do you come here often?” he asked putting the conversation back on safer ground.

“Not really,” Hiiro replied. “It’s sort of an office get together.”

“You have friends here?” Duo asked looking around but all he saw was Trowa bending Quatre over and kissing him madly and Wufei riding on his dance partner’s shoulders.

“Your friends seem like a fun bunch,” Hiiro smiled when Duo burst into laugher.

“They’ll keep you on your toes,” Duo informed him.

“Do you dance?”

“What?” Dance? Here? “With who?”

“With me,” Hiiro chuckled standing to offer his hand.

“I don’t… I mean… I already told you…”

“I know,” Hiiro smiled taking his hand to draw him to his feet. “But one dance isn’t going to hurt right? It’s just a dance, the music’s fast; we don’t even have to hold hands.”

“But…”

“You’ll have fun,” Hiiro grinned nudging him toward the floor. “I promise.”

Duo stepped out among the throng catching the attention of both Trowa and Wufei whom he gave a sheepish grin before turning to face his dance partner.

“Duo!” Wufei yelled slipping off his partners broad shoulders. “You all right?”

“He’s doing fine don’t you think?” Hiiro smiled.

Duo blushed deeper yet as he moved his feet clumsily and tried not to look at the Chinese boy until he was swept away by his abandoned dance partner.

Trowa flicked his eyes toward the braided boy to alert his lover who gasped when he saw him awkwardly trying to keep time with Hiiro’s confident moves and made to go to his side but the taller boy grinned and snagged him around the waist and twirled him in the opposite direction.

“Here,” Hiiro smiled smoothly slipping in to slide a hand around Duo’s waist.

“What’re you doing?!” Duo gasped glancing about as if someone might complain.

“Teaching you to dance,” his partner chuckled.

“I know how to dance.”

“Then show me,” Hiiro grinned giving him a little more room.

Duo’s jaw set stubbornly as he pushed aside his reservations and forced himself to relax. His feet moved in time as he began to work with Hiiro instead of around him and suddenly they were sliding all over the floor. A twirl and a jump and a slip of the spine and Duo was laughing so loud even Wufei was grinning then Hiiro suddenly caught his hand jerking him in to settle against his side then spinning him back out, duck under the arm and spin in back in again and Duo knew instinctively to let his weight fall but didn’t realize he was bent over backwards and staring up into those endless blue eyes until it was to late to stop the dip.

“See?” Hiiro smiled breathlessly. “I knew you could do it.”

“Let me up,” Duo swallowed not at all sure he liked the way his body was liking being held by the stranger.

“Why?” Hiiro asked as the bright energy in his eyes mellowed into something dark and decadent.

“Please.”

“Ah, man,” Hiiro chuckled nervously as the music died and he set him back on his feet. “You are one seriously dangerous individual.”

“I’m not dangerous,” Duo countered as he checked his clothes, looked for his wayward friends and did just about anything else he could think of but look into those eyes again.

“You are to me,” his partner smiled offering his hand.

Duo looked at it then at him and tried to reconcile the strange feelings inside him. Had he been hanging out with gay guys too long or had this always been inside him and what exactly was this anyway? Whatever it was it made him want to take that hand so he did so only a moment too soon to realize the next song was a slow dance but Hiiro refused to give it back smiling coyly as he stepped in and slipped an arm around his waist.

“I’m not a girl,” Duo complained but couldn’t find it in him to pull away from the warm feeling.

“Definitely not,” Hiiro smiled pulling him just a bit closer.

It wasn’t so bad, the position was strange but not uncomfortable and there was a certain freedom in letting someone else lead though Hiiro seemed to know which way he was going before he did so it felt almost as if he were simply following along even though he was in control. Then there was that warmth that radiated in Duo’s chest when he held him close, a feeling he’d never experienced before and understood without effort would not come along often.

“Would it offend you if I said you were the single most attractive person I have ever laid eyes on?” Hiiro asked softly and Duo realized he was whispering in his ear when his skin prickled clear down to his elbows.

“I bet you say that to all the boys,” he chided hiding the heat on his face in his partners strong shoulder.

His scent was heavy and thick, not like the perfume the girls wore at the office but a rich, natural musk that tingled in his nose and made things wake inside him that sat up and wagged their tails when he asked…

“Are you this beautiful on the inside too?”

“Are you always this poetic?” Duo chuckled breaking the fragile spell.

Hiiro laughed and backed off a little. “Sorry,” he smiled. “It’s just… you really are,” his eyes took on that dreamy quality again before he breathed, “…intoxicating.”

Duo felt his heart beat as the smoky rhythm of the music thrummed in the air and the heat of Hiiro’s hand on his back seeped under his skin and wet his lips unconsciously.

“Duo?” Hiiro breathed moving closer, his arms tightening to draw the slender body in his arms more firmly against his own.

“I’ve never dated a guy before,” Duo confessed unable to stop his body from melting in Hiiro’s embrace.

“Everyone’s got to start somewhere,” Hiiro smiled.

“You might not like me.”

“Worse yet,” Hiiro grinned leaning in close to his ear. “I might already be in love.”

Duo shivered making him chuckle as he pulled away but the look in the braided boy’s eyes stole his breath away. The moment was right there looking at him from deep inside those amethyst eyes so he grabbed it with both hands and laid his mouth against Duo’s.

*

“Hey, Wufei?”

“Mmwhat?” the Chinese boy replied lifting his lips from his new playmates.

“What were you saying about Duo not being gay?” Quatre grinned pointing to the dance floor.

Wufei’s eyes grew large when he saw Duo locked in a deep kiss with the guy he’d been dancing with before his face soured. “Aww, man! And here I was trying to play the nice guy!”

“He’s off your list anyway,” Trowa smiled pulling Quatre a bit closer.

“Yeah,” Quatre agreed. “He’s a friend.”

“He’s not my friend,” Wufei’s tentative date smiled.

“Touch him and I’ll break your arm,” the Chinese boy growled kicking him out of his seat before adding, “On second thought, he’d probably do it for me,” as he grinned and watched the couple still making out on the dance floor.

*

“Stop,” Duo gasped trying to breath in the heavy fog that had descended over them.

“Told you, you were dangerous,” Hiiro swallowed unable to fully pull away.

“This is insane,” Duo chuckled letting him kiss him again.

“Then find me a rubber room,” Hiiro smiled. “Cause I plan on staying a while.”

Duo laughed and slipped his arms around his neck liking very much how Hiiro’s arms felt around his waist as he danced him across the floor and into the first night of the rest of their lives.
