"Bowtie "

“Damn it.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” I never was any good with this shit. Tuxedos and starched shirts just really aren’t my style but there was no way I could turn Quatre down when he announced his little get together. Just a few friends had turned into the event of the century. Now, everyone from Lady Une to little old me was attending the ball.

“Shit,” I exclaimed again pulling the demon ribbon around my neck straight again. How in the hell did people get these things even on both sides?

“It just takes a little practice,” Hiiro chuckled but I knew he didn’t wear bow ties any more often than I did. “Here, let me help.”

“Naw, I’ll get it.”

“You’ll miss the party at this rate,” he laughed and the next thing I knew his fingers were working under my chin and I felt the heat in my cheeks as my eyes found somewhere to look besides at his very close face. “The violet shirt is nice,” he commented making the blush deepen while he stood there comfortably smirking at me.

“Quatre,” was the best answer I could come up with as my brain was beginning to bake.

It was always like this but usually I could control it a lot easier because he wasn’t two inches from my face. I had realized long ago my infatuation with him would never die, I had just never had to deal with him being that… close before.

“Are you nervous?”

“No!”

The son of a bitch laughed at me which eased the tension a little but it was still damn hot in there. What was taking so long?

“You look very fetching,” he smiled brushing the perfect bow he had tied for me smoothly along my collar.

“Fetching?” I replied softly swallowing the huge lump that had risen in my throat.

“Handsome?” he cocked a brow. Damn, he was still so close.

“Sexy,” I thought to myself glancing at how good he looked in his own attire and knew I was in trouble when his grin widened considerably. Shit, I had said that out loud.

“Aptly put,” he returned. I wondered if something was wrong with me for a moment because my heart had sped up so fast it was making me dizzy but the cause was clear to me when he suddenly leaned in and kissed me gently.

He looked almost as shocked as me when he retreated and I could count his heartbeats just by watching his temples. His eyes had that desperately uncertain expression one gets when they are hopelessly uncertain and I had to close my eyes and think hard.

“Hiiro?”

“Yes?”

“Did you just…”

“Yes.”

When I opened my eyes the uncertainty had given way to embarrassed dejection and I felt as if my blood were draining out of me and took his face in both my hands and kissed him back.

He gasped but he didn’t pull away then the most amazing thing that had ever happened in my life occurred when his arms slipped around my waist and pulled me close and I heard myself moan as he tilted his head and opened his mouth and set my entire body on fire.

“Duo?” he breathed swallowing hard as I trembled in his arms.

“What?” Gods it was so hard to breathe, I couldn’t see properly, I wanted another kiss.

“Can we talk about this after the party?” he asked but made no move to release me.

“Party?” I repeated dazedly. “Oh, yeah,” I nodded pushing away from him but he pulled me in for one more kiss that left me breathless and giddy before finally releasing me.

“Are you all right?” he asked touching my face.

“Fine.” Just fine. Wow.

“Really? You’re not angry?”

“Hell, no!” I snorted. “A little confused maybe but…” Everything just seemed so bright and colorful all of a sudden.

“We’ll talk,” he promised stealing another small kiss that sent a shiver down my spine and made me laugh.

“Would it be presumptuous of me to hope for more than that?” I giggled but the smile the comment put on his face was anything but amused. Hungry would be a more fitting description. Was he really willing to go that far?

“Promise me you won’t change your mind,” he demanded.

“Jesus, Hiiro,” I snorted. “It’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

“Promise?” he breathed brushing his lips over mine again.

“Yes,” I gasped and he kissed me again sealing the vow.

It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do pulling myself away from him to attend the ball but I knew we would have plenty of time to work things out afterwards. I hadn’t expected his helping me with my bow tie would result in such a wondrous occurrence but I felt very much like I could fly when I thought about what might happen later in the night when he took it back off.
