" Custos"

Chapter 10

Quatre took a breath before connecting the call that would effectively end the life he'd known. Samantha Winner, along with several of his closest advisors, lawyers, and Rashid appeared on the screen. He looked to each in turn.

“I'm sorry I've been out of contact for so long.”

“Where are you?” Rashid asked.

He shook his head. “I'm sorry, but I can't tell you that.” He cleared his throat. “Effective immediately, I am stepping down as CEO of Winner Enterprises.” A rush of questions exploded and he held up his hand. “My reasons are personal and I will not change my mind.”

He looked to his sister. “You are more than capable of running the company.”

She fought to maintain a business face. “Will you be coming back?”

He smiled somewhat sadly. “I will never return to the company again. As for seeing all of you... I don't know. I'll try to keep in touch as much as I can.”

She nodded. “We'll have the paperwork drawn up to buy out your part of the company.”

“Thank you, Sam.”

“Is this all because of Wufei?” Rashid asked, the obvious lack of 'Master' a glaring sign of anger to Quatre.

He looked to the Maguanac. “Let me make something clear to all of you. He did not ask for my help. If he'd had his way, we would never have met up again. Not because he didn't want to be with us, but because he wanted to keep us safe.”

His expression softened. “I love him, Rashid. I would do whatever it took to be with him. If you can't understand that, then I'm sorry, but I'm doing what I need to do. And I don't, and never will, regret it.”

Rashid nodded slowly. “If that is the way of it... Take care of yourself, Master Quatre.”

“I will. You take care, as well.” He reached out and cut the connection. It was a bittersweet feeling. He couldn't say he would miss the company, but he would miss his family and coworkers. A knock came to the door and he glanced over as Jason stuck his head in.

“How'd it go?”

He stretched his arms over his head. “I am officially unemployed.”

Jason tilted his head to the side. “Is he really worth it?”

The blond smiled as he put a hand over his chest, feeling the link thrum within him. “He didn't ask to be a vampire, Jason, and he never gave himself over to the bloodlust. He's the same person he always was. Strong, just, passionate.”

He shook his head. “You've only recently met up with him again. A few weeks isn't long enough to really know how much he has or hasn't changed.”

Quatre stood and crossed to the man, gazing up at him silently. He raised his hand to Jason's chest and felt the intense sadness and fear drift from him. Fear for his grandson the main focus. Heero was, in a very real sense, all he had left.

Quatre sighed softly. “Your fear is guiding you.” He looked up into shocked blue eyes. “Fear is a sloppy compass, Jason. The direction you need to go becomes clouded with worry and confusion. You're too smart a man for that.

“Heero chose his path. I now you love him. Have faith that we do, too. Wufei would never hurt him.” He pulled his hand from the stunned faerie. “Wufei would give his life without a second thought for any of us... including you.”

He tilted his head to the side. “You're an empath.”

Quatre nodded. “So trust me when I say you have nothing to fear from Wufei.”

Wufei moved into the library. Why was it, when you were looking for something, it was always in the last place you'd think to look? He'd searched the whole house for the pair, only to find them necking in the library. He rolled his eyes and leaned against the bookshelves.

“Don't you have a bedroom where you can do that?”

Trowa pulled his lips from Heero's neck and glanced out of the corner of his eye to the vampire. “Yes.”

He snorted. “You just choose not to use it?”

A cinnamon brow quirked. “This from the man who was making out with his lover in the cabin of the jet.”

He pursed his lips. “That's beside the point.”

Heero growled, clearly unhappy with the interruption. “Did you need something, Wufei?”

He nodded and it wasn't until then they noticed the slump in his shoulders and the way he leaned against the shelves. They separated and moved toward him with worry.

“What happened?”

He shook his head. “I can't feed him anymore. He needs too much. I just...” He slid down the shelves to sit on the floor. “He's still hungry but I can't give him anymore.”

“Where is he?”

“Locked in his room.” He looked up to Trowa. “Can you go hunt something down?”

“What would be best?”

He rubbed his eyes. “A carnivore. Don't kill it.”

Trowa raised an eyebrow. “Wufei, we're in the Caribbean. The only large carnivores out here are in the ocean.”

He pursed his lips. “Then get as big of an animal as you can. And don't kill it.”

Trowa nodded and moved for the door. Heero followed. “I'll get Quatre,” he told Wufei. “You wait here.”

He nodded, tilting his head back and closing his eyes. He had underestimated the toll it took to turn someone. He didn't remember feeding so long or as much from Damien, but his perception was probably skewed due to the level of control Damien had over him during his training.

He slit his eyes open as a cool hand touched his cheek. Quatre's brows were knit together. “What happened?”

“I underestimated what it would take to turn someone.” He sighed. “Trowa went to find something else to feed Duo with.”

Quatre sat fully to the floor. He closed his eyes and tilted his head to the side. But it was his lips that were taken, not his neck. He fell into the kiss and laid back as Wufei prompted him. His right arm was trapped to the floor by Wufei's hand, but he moved his left to run his fingers through the long raven locks that slid over Wufei's side to the floor.

Quatre felt his heart rate pick up as the link between them began to fluctuate. It seemed even stronger than it had been their first time. It thrummed through his chest, sending shocks of electricity through him. He tore his lips from Wufei's and turned his face to the left, gasping for breath as Wufei kissed down his cheek and jawline.

'Are you all right?'

He couldn't even form a thought to respond. The throbbing link rolled over him in waves of ecstasy almost painfully. It was too much and he shook his head, fighting for some moment of clarity. The pulsating link pulled back and resumed its normal level. Quatre blinked his eyes open slowly and realized Wufei was no longer touching him. He was hovered over him, watching him with worry.

'Are you all right?'

He swallowed. 'Yeah... Did you feel that?'

Fine black brows drew together. 'I'm sorry. I moved too fast.'

'What?'

He smiled and brushed his knuckles along Quatre's pale cheek. 'Don't worry about it right now.' He leaned down and nuzzled Quatre's neck. “I love you.”

Teeth sank into his neck and his curiosity vanished at the now familiar and very welcome sensation. Wufei settled between his legs, rocking their growing erections together as he fed. Quatre moaned softly and clenched his hands on Wufei's hips before sliding them to grip his behind.

Wufei pulled away, closed the wound, and attacked Quatre's lips with fervor. 'Want you.'

Quatre moaned in response.

Trowa dragged the poor donkey to the porch and held it down with his paws. Heero stepped out of the house with a rope and scratched behind Trowa's ears, pulling a purr from the panther.

He smiled softly as Trowa crawled away from the animal and shifted. He sat back on his heels and examined the gash on his upper arm. Heero knelt next to him and studied the wound.

“Is this the only injury?”

“Yeah.”

Heero put his hand over the gash and quickly healed it. Trowa stood and grabbed the clothes he'd left on the bench on the porch. He slid into his jeans and T-shirt. “How is Wufei?”

Heero smirked. “He and Quatre took over the library. It's safe to say he's going to recover.”

Trowa nodded and looked to the whimpering animal. “Think she'll work for Duo?”

He raised a shoulder. “Won't know till we try.”

“All right. Let's get her up to him.” They lifted the foal and carried her into the house and up the stairs. Zechs sat against the wall across from Duo's room. He stood as his eyes fell on the animal.

“What's this?”

“Wufei's suggestion. How's Duo?”

He pursed his lips. “Frustrated. Scared.” He knocked on the door. “Duo.”

“What?” came the miserable response.

“Open the door.”

“How's Wufei?”

Zechs looked to Heero. He had no clue how the vampire was doing. Heero nodded. “He's fine.”

“You're sure?” Duo's troubled voice came from behind the door.

“Yes, he's had Quatre screaming like a cat in heat for the last half hour.”

A moment later the lock clicked. Zechs waited for a minute before pushing the door open. He looked around the room and found Duo huddled in the corner, legs to his chest and forehead pressed to his knees. His arms were folded around his stomach.

He looked up as Trowa and Heero set the animal in front of him. He reached out and ran his fingers across the coarse fur. “Poor thing.” He pressed his lips together briefly. “Sorry,” he whispered before leaning forward and sinking his teeth into her neck. It wasn't as good as the other blood, but he was able to drink until the burn in his stomach faded. He sat back and wiped his chin.

Trowa and Heero pulled the carcass out of the room and shut the door. Zechs knelt beside Duo. “Feel better?”

He nodded and chewed his lip. “I'm sorry for flipping out on you.”

He shook his head. “No reason to be sorry.”

“There's something wrong, Zechs. Something isn't going right.”

“It's only been a few days. Wufei hasn't ever turned anyone before. We don't know what's normal.” His lips quirked up on one corner. “Look on the bright side. You can tolerate being around me.”

He smiled. “Yeah.” The smile slipped slightly as he studied the contours of Zechs' face. There was an ethereal beauty to the blond that captivated Duo in a way he'd never felt before. He raised a tentative hand to his face, tracing his fingers along the curve of his cheek and down his jaw. The skin was soft and firm. He moved to Zechs' hair and found the silken strands much finer than his own.

Zechs shivered at the soft caresses, holding his breath as Duo explored his face and neck. The slightly glazed expression filled violet eyes as he became mystified while examining Zechs' skin. A cool finger slid across his lips and he darted a tongue out to taste it.

Duo started and blinked, pulling his hands away. “Sorry.”

“You don't have to stop,” Zechs whispered huskily and the timbre shot straight through Duo.

His eyes fluttered slightly. “I get too distracted. Everything is so new... so intense.”

He smiled. “I have no qualms if you wish to become distracted with me.” He leaned forward and softly pressed his lips to Duo's.

Duo sucked in a shuddering breath as several senses were assaulted at once. Zechs' lips were like molten fire in touch, with the taste of the cinnamon coffee he liked to drink. And underneath that was something purely Zechs. Something strong yet hard to contain. It was like tasting the wind.

He lost himself for several minutes and when he finally managed to regain some semblance of control, he found Zechs flat on the floor with himself pinning him down. Blond hair haloed around Zechs on the thick carpet and his face was flushed. Pale blue eyes were darkened and his chest rose and fell with heated breaths. He rolled his tongue over swollen lips.

“Why'd you stop?” he asked on a whisper.

Duo struggled to maintain his raging desire. “If we don't stop now... I won't be able to.”

Zechs couldn't move his hands as Duo had them pinned to the floor on either side of his head, so he raised and nuzzled his cheek to the brunette's to whisper in his ear. “I don't want you to stop.”

Duo groaned and lifted the blond from the floor, tossing him unceremoniously to the bed. The sudden shift caught Zechs off guard and he caught himself on his forearms and looked over his shoulder as Duo crawled on the end of the bed.

He hooked his hands under the waistband of the cotton pants wore and slid them down, growling as the blond moved. He stilled, heard pounding with a mixture of anticipation and fear. Not that he believed Duo would hurt him intentionally, but Duo's strength was now far beyond his own and the lust shining in his violet eyes was almost overwhelming.

Duo slid up his body, running his hands and lips across every inch of revealed skin. Desire began to overshadow fear as kisses were laid to the backs of his knees and gentle fingers glided along his thighs. He buried his face in the pillow, shivering as his hair was brushed to the side and his shirt was pulled up and tossed to the floor.

Kisses dropped to his neck, moving down his spine one vertebra at a time. He thrust his hips softly in an attempt to ease some of the tension mounting between his legs.

“Duo,” he gasped when strong hands kneaded his bottom, “we need lube.”

He paused and practically laid on Zechs as he reached for the bedside table. He shuddered at the feel of the thick erection pressing into his hip and mildly wondered when Duo had undressed. “Will this work?”

Zechs looked to the side where Duo held a jar of Vaseline.”Yeah.”

Duo shifted and laid beside him, one leg stretched over his thighs. He nipped at the bare skin of Zechs' shoulder blade as he slid a slick finger into the tight entrance. Zechs pressed his face back to the pillow, willing his body to relax. He'd only been bottom a couple of times and, while it had been all right, it hadn't been an experience he'd planned to repeat.

The finger moved within him slowly and teasingly as Duo rocked his erection against his hip and kissed at his neck. He shivered as he felt sharp teeth graze against his neck, not breaking the skin.

A second finger slid in and he grimaced as they began to scissor. “Sorry,” Duo murmured into his ear.

“It's all right.”

“You're perfect,” Duo breathed across the pale shoulder he'd been suckling. He raised up slightly, watching his fingers disappearing inside the silken heat. It sent tingled up his arm and shot pleasure to his groin. He hardened further and growled low in his throat.

The scent of Zechs' arousal overwhelmed him and he pulled his fingers out. He lifted Zechs' hips and covered his length with the Vaseline. He pressed the head of his erection against the puckered entrance and pushed in slowly.

Zechs grit his teeth and spread his legs, clenching his fists above his head as the tip slid in and Duo paused. “Just push it all the way in.”

Duo heard the low pained growl and it sent a fresh wave of need through him, but his attention was on where the two were joined. He moved in shallowly and pulled back, inching in a little more on every thrust. He paused when he was finally seated and felt as if he came out of some kind of trance. He stared down at Zechs' trembling shoulders and leaned down to kiss the base of his neck.

“Oh, shit, I'm sorry.”

Zechs gasped at the change in position as Duo inadvertently hit the pleasure spot inside him. “It's all right.”

“Are you okay? I know you didn't-”

“I knew it would come to this when you were turned... well, if we were able to be together, that is,” he said quietly, voice slightly muffled by the pillow. “It's all right. Keep going.”

He nodded and slid out slowly before pushing back in. He gripped Zechs' hip in one hand while bracing the other hand on the mattress. He flexed his hips harder and faster, aiming for the spot that pulled deep groans and whispers of encouragement from the blond beneath him.

Zechs was rapidly losing it. Sex with Treize had been nothing like this. He hadn't made a point of searching for the prostate. He'd tried to distract Zechs from the discomfort, but either hadn't known or cared how to make it feel it's best. After that, Zechs hadn't been interested in trying again. But...

“Harder,” he moaned, hardly recognizing his voice in the needy tremor that escaped his throat.

Duo drove his hips harder and Zechs gasped his name loudly, rocking back against him. Heat washed over Duo and he grabbed Zechs' hips and pushed them to the mattress. He pressed the toned thighs close together and lay with his chest flat to the blond's back. The passage around him was so tight it strangled a moan and hiss from him as he continued to rock inside his lover.

Zechs clawed at eh sheets. He was going into overload. It shouldn't have felt so good. Every cell in his body was humming with pleasure and when a hand snaked between his body and the mattress and gripped his length, he lost all control.

Words were mumbled into his ear but he couldn't understand them. All he knew was he needed more. The words continued to fall and he sobbed. “Yes,” he whispered, not knowing why but praying that would be enough to grant him release.

Duo bit the juncture of his shoulder and neck and he cried out softly as he came. Heat poured into him and he shivered before gasping and arching slightly. He couldn't explain the feeling that washed over him. It was as if a cool breeze blew through his body and settled somewhere in his chest. Duo lay several kisses to his neck before pulling out and laying beside him.

He rolled to his back and looking into tired violet eyes. “You bit me.”

Brunette brows drew together. “Barely. Your blood doesn't take very good.”

Zechs chuckled. “I'm glad to hear that.”

Duo scooted over and lay his head to Zechs' chest. “That was... amazing.”

“Hm.” He folded his arms over Duo's shoulders. “If I'd known you'd be so much better than Treize, I'd have done this sooner.”

Duo sighed. “Glad to know I'm a better lay than your general.”

“You're a natural.” He scratched at his wrist idly and kissed the top of Duo's head. “You wore me out.”

Duo smiled softly. “I think we wore each other out.”

Heero flipped the page of the book, scanning the information with narrowed eyes. He sat back and tapped his fingers on the table. After several minutes, he looked across the table to Jason.

“You should have told me,” he said quietly.

Jason sighed. “I was hoping it wouldn't happen.”

“Damn it, Jason.” He pushed from the table and paced, raking his hands through his hair. “A heads up would have been nice.”

“Why do you think I tried to keep you out of this?”

“I thought it was solely because of your hatred of vampires.” He shook his head. “It isn't your place to keep me out of things. As my grandfather, you should have been more concerned with helping me get prepared.”

Jason watched the young man pace, heart heavy. “I'm sorry, my boy.”

He turned and stared down at the book on the table. “Is there no way to stop it?”

“Melia's predictions never fail, Heero. She penned this at your birth with surety that if certain events unfolded as they did... it would happen.” He dropped his eyes to the journal. “I'm sorry.”

Heero's jaw flexed. “I'll lose everything.”

He shook his head. “Not everything. You'll never lose your friends or me... or Trowa.”

He took a breath and met his grandfather's gaze. “You're right.” He rubbed his face. “We have more important things to worry about right now. Like finding the three Ancients and the Custos.”

Jason nodded and handed the journal to Heero. “She would have wanted you to have it.”

He stared down at the leather bound book in his hands. “Thank you.”
