SHADOWS AND LIGHT: AN UNBREAKABLE BOND:
//Duo carefully thrusting into him as his hand gently
stroked him, giving him more pleasure than he thought possible. Heero blushed as he remembered. "Duo... Doko eh?"
He stood up and walked to the bedroom door. He poked his head into
the hallway and heard the sound of a shower running. 'I can guess
who's in there.' Heero thought with a smirk. He walked to the bathroom
door and opened it quietly, stepping inside and looking at the shower
from which he heard the water running. The curtain was closed. He
thought he heard humming but wasn't certain. The sound was smoother
than any human voice could ever hope to be. 'That probably is him.
He has a voice that could do that.' Heero smiled and stepped forward,
throwing the dark colored shower curtain open. Duo startled and turned to face him in mid air as he
jumped to the farthest part of the small shower away from Heero, eyes
wide and hard looking, his stance that of a defensive posture. He
stared at Heero through the spray of water for a moment before his
eyes softened and he straightened his stance. "Go-gomen nasai." Heero stuttered. Duo smiled weakly. "Hekki. Just surprised me is
all." He stepped back under the spray. Heero watched as the water ran down his lover's body
in small, graceful rivulets, the droplets shining upon his skin like
diamonds. Duo's hair was wet, his bangs fell into his eyes, seemingly
luminescent drops of water hanging upon the ends. It was still out
of its braid, the long wet tresses hugging his body attractively. Enthralled, Heero smiled. "Anata wa Tenshi. Sou
deshou." Duo blushed. "I don't think so." He smiled
as he held out a hand. "Join me?" Heero smiled as well. There was no hinted sexual meaning
in the words. He simply meant that they could bathe together. "Yosha."
He looked down. Semen coated his abdomen and he realized that Duo
must have been covered in it as well. He blushed brightly and Duo
merely smiled and took him by the hand, gently pulling him under the
hot spray with him, closing the curtain behind him. He smiled down
at his lover and Duo blushed lightly as he held out a bar of soap
to Heero. "Here." He said as he blushed deeper. "Anou...
When do you have to leave?" Heero took the bar and began to lather it over his skin,
stepping out of the spray. "I don't know. What time is it?" Duo looked to his black digital watch and Heero realized
that he had never once seen him with it off. Even when they had made
love, Duo had been wearing it. 'I guess he would have to have a watch at all times.
If he got caught out in the day...' Heero shuddered mentally. "Six-seventeen." Heero nodded. "Ok. I have to leave at Seven."
He looked up as Duo picked up a shampoo bottle and poured some of
the clear gel into a palm. Duo reached forward and began to spread the shampoo
through Heero's hair. He smiled up at Heero's confused smile. "I
just... I've wanted to do this for a while. You have really cool hair." Heero smiled wider down into Duo's eyes. "So...Anou...
Why do you have shampoo and soap and lotion and stuff? I mean, you
said you don't produce oil. Naze da...?" Duo eyes seemed to sadden for a fraction of a second
before he grinned. Heero saw how hollow it truly was. "I still like taking showers. Plus, when you live
out here, your hair gets more dust in it that you can shake a stick
at." He shrugged. "And the lotion I keep around for the
same reason as the sunglasses in my car. It's as necessary for me
as it is for you." Heero thought back to what Duo had said the night they
met. //"You can even send messages back to me if you
want. Or catch glimpses of my thoughts. When my defenses are down,
that is, which I'm not going to do here for safety reasons."// 'I wonder if he's unguarded here?' Heero concentrated,
hiding it well with a smile. He felt something brush against his mind
and grabbed a hold of it. He continued to look into Duo's eyes. Duo just smiled at him, giving no indication that he
knew what he was doing. 'Is this wrong?' Heero wondered. 'I mean, he has no
idea what I'm doing. He trusts me.' Heero threw the thought from his
mind. 'He's done the same thing. I can, too.' He felt the thing that
brushed his mind and it opened for him. He suppressed a slight jerk as he heard Duo's thoughts
in his head. They were not words per say, rather emotions and memories.
Concepts and ideas. Sights and sounds. But Heero was able to translate
them into a language he understood. 'He's so cute. Too bad he has to go to school. I hate
it when he's gone.' Heero smiled inwardly, knowing how Duo felt. 'I guess it's a good thing that I shower often and have
this stuff. It came in handy today. Who knew?' The 'tone' turned sad.
'I just hope he doesn't realize why I have them.' Heero was confused by Duo's thought, but in the interest
of not seeming too suspicious, he stepped forward and kissed him lightly.
He scanned around the thought for the meaning and found it. It was
in memories and feeling. He saw Duo crying as he turned the water hotter and
hotter, soaping his skin, scrubbing harshly and then washing it off
only to repeat the process violently until his skin was slightly raw.
Accompanying the vision were emotions. Duo's were completely unbalanced.
He seemed to be feeling as though he were dirty, the scrubbing of
his skin an attempt to wash away his sins from it like so much blood
staining his hands. Heero knew that rather than trying to cleanse
his skin, Duo was trying to wash the blood from his very soul. Heero left the thought and returned to himself. Duo was giving him a puzzled and concerned look. "Hee-kun?
You Ok?" Heero nodded and smiled, realizing that he must have
looked sad. "Ah. Ai shite ieru." Duo smiled up at him and stepped backwards, drawing
them both back under the spray of water, the suds flowing from Heero's
hair and skin. Duo completed the task of washing all the shampoo and
soap from Heero's body, turning off the water when he was done. He
opened the curtain and stepped out of the shower, holding Heero's
hand and urging him to follow. Heero stepped out with him and Duo held out a towel,
smiling. Heero took it and began to dry himself, Duo doing the same
with a different one. Heero finished drying himself and wrapped the towel
around his waist. 'Wow. And just like that, I don't care if he sees
the scars. How did he do that?' His thoughts were interrupted as his
stomach growled noisily. He blushed and Duo grinned at him. "Hungry." It was not a question. Heero nodded silently as his stomach answered for him. Duo smiled at him. "I'm afraid all I can offer
you is coffee. I... Don't entertain much. There's no food.... Oh!
Wait! I do have that pie in the fridge that my landlady gave me. Is
that Ok?" Heero smiled. "If it's anywhere near as good as
yours it is." Duo shrugged, a blank look on his face. "I wouldn't
know." Confused, Heero cocked an eyebrow. "I thought she
all but forced you to eat some." "Ah, sao. But, I don't know how it would taste
to a ningen." Duo smiled wryly. "I... To me it was just...gross.
I've heard Elmer say that they were good, though." Heero smiled. "Ok." Grinning, Duo took his hand and led him from the bathroom.
They walked into the kitchen and Duo sat Heero down at the small table
that had a thin layer of dust upon it. He pulled out a chair and gestured
for Heero to take a seat. Heero sat at the table and let Duo get him breakfast.
He heard the fridge open and close quickly behind him. 'He doesn't
want me to see what he has in the fridge. Why can't he trust me? I
showed him my scars. I already know what he has in there. I guess
this is too much like hunting. Oh, well. I'll bug him about it later.'
Duo walked over to him and sat down, setting the pie
on the table and offering Heero a spoon. "Gomen, ne?" Duo
smiled wryly. "I...uh...don't have any plates. And this is the
only silverware I have. Is it Ok? And about the coffee.... I... I
only have one glass. And..." He looked down at the table. 'And that's the one I saw by the only pot. I guess that's
what he drinks the blood from.' Smiling Heero took Duo's hand. "It's
Ok, Duo-kun. I can survive one morning without coffee. And the pie
smells great." He looked down at the large apple pie and saw
the small chunk missing from the top. 'Wow. That's all he ate and
he got sick. That must suck.' He picked up the spoon and took a large
scoop of the food into it, quickly eating it. "Well." He
said after swallowing. "It's not as good as yours. But it'll
do." Duo grinned and stood up. "I'm gonna go get dressed."
He smiled at Heero's bereft look. "I'll be right back, Baka." Heero grinned at the name. "Hai, hai." Duo waltzed from the kitchen, humming to himself. "I was right. He does sing like an angel."
"I heard that." Duo called from the other
room. Heero laughed and waited until the humming was far enough
away before quietly standing and walking over to the refrigerator.
He took a firm grip on the handle and pulled. Nothing. He tried again,
harder. This time the door flung open and Heero paled at the sight. Bags of dark red covered the shelf and hung from the
bars on the top of the icebox. He reached in and took one out, reading the label. 'O
positive.' He shivered and quickly put it back in its place, closing
the door and once again taking his seat at the table. He picked up
the spoon and found that he had very little appetite left. 'Well.
I wanted to know. I'd better eat some more, though. I'm still tired
from last night. I wonder... How much blood did he take? I don't feel
too weak. Just kind of tired. Or is that from the sex? I don't have
enough experience to know for sure.' He turned his attention to the hallway when he heard
Duo cursing quietly in several languages. "Duo-kun? Doshda?" Duo appeared from the hallway, fully dressed and brushing
his hair, taking a seat next to Heero at the table. "Nothing.
I just should have brushed my hair BEFORE wetting it. I know this.
Yet never seem to learn. It doesn't usually get this tangled on its
own but last night... Well... You know..." He blushed glancing
up at Heero. "Oh well, I shouldn't curse. Gomen." Heero grinned. "Duo, it's Ok. I'm not unused to
that kind of talk. You haven't met my buddies. They can make a sailor
blush. Um, what languages were those?" Duo grinned as well. "I told you I've been almost
everywhere. I speak at least a little of the language of every place
I visit." Heero took another bite of pie. "Which is where
exactly?" Duo looked up, pausing in brushing his hair, seeming
to think for a moment before counting his response on his fingers.
"I've been to every state, Ireland, Scottland, England, Italy,
Spain, Mexico, Germany, Japan of course, China, Congo_boy did I stand
out there_, Holland, Switzerland, France, Peru and Egypt. Oh and Canada,
but that doesn't count. If they don't speak French, they talk like
us but add and 'Eh?' to everything they say. It's the land of unnecessary
questions and mayonnaise." He grinned. Heero laughed. "I've heard that before. I didn't
know it was true." Duo nodded. "Sou ka." He resumed brushing
his long hair. "Um. How do you get to all those places? I mean,
airplane landings can be delayed. There's no way to make sure that
the whole thing is during night." Duo gave a small smile. "Hai. I have to travel
by ship. It takes a lot longer but it's much less risky." Deciding
his hair was brushed enough, he flung it over his shoulder, reached
his hands behind himself and began to braid it. "You need help?" Duo smiled at him. "Iye. Demo arigato. I've gotten
pretty good at this over the years." Heero nodded and put the spoon down. "I can't eat
anymore. It's just a little too sweet." Duo nodded and took the pie and spoon, washing the utensil
before putting the pie back in the fridge. Heero stood and walked with Duo into the bedroom, blushing
as he dressed, retrieving the articles of clothing from where they
had been respectively tossed the night before. He looked to Duo again. "What time is it?" Duo looked at his watch again. "Six-forty-three." Heero looked at him from across the room. Duo was staring at the bed, blushing lightly, though
his face was blank. Concerned, Heero walked to him and cupped his cheek
in his hand. "You Ok?" Duo nodded. "I just... I haven't done... It's been
a long time. And... When I... It was..... I was...a...." Heero understood and kissed him lightly. 'Wow. He wasn't
kidding. That was a long time ago. Back when he was still human.'
"You don't regret it... Do you?" Duo seemed shocked. "Why would I? Hee-kun, I love
you. This is what people who love each other do. Of course I don't
regret it." Heero smiled at him and Duo kissed him passionately. The two stayed locked in the kiss for a few moments
before Duo broke and rested his head against Heero's shoulder. "What
about you? I mean, are you Ok? I didn't...?" Heero shook his head and rubbed Duo's back, playing lightly with the wet braid. "Iye. You didn't hurt me, Duo. And I don't feel weak from blood loss. You didn't
take very much." He blushed and Duo remained silent. "Duo-kun?" Duo nodded. "Gomen. Not really accustomed to talking
about stuff like that." He moved back and looked into Heero's
eyes. "You should get going. It's gonna take you longer to get
to school from here than from your house. Plus you probably have to
get your books and stuff first, ne?" Heero thought about that. "Hai." "You need directions? I know how easy it is to
get lost around here." Heero shook his head and smiled. "I think I can
wing it." Duo smiled and led him into the living room and then
moved to stand in a corner. Heero walked to the door and looked back to Duo who
remained on the other side of the room. 'Nani...' He opened the door
and saw the reason Duo was standing where he was. As the door opened, sunlight filled the room, a long
rectangle casting itself upon the floor. Duo's house faced the East.
'That has to be hard. The sunrise just on the other side of the wall
but unable to ever see it.' He looked with sad eyes back to where
Duo was standing with a nervous look upon his face. He was in the
one place in the room that the sunlight did not touch. Heero moved
to his lover and embraced him, kissing him lightly. "Will you
come to see me tonight?" Duo nodded and smiled. "Hai." Heero smiled as well. "Yosha." He walked back
to the door and, giving his lover one last look, stepped out and closed
it behind him. He looked at the rising sun angrily. 'I wish the sun
didn't exist. Then Duo could be with me always. Oh well. Nothing I
can do about it.' He walked to his motor bike and winced. 'The ride
to school is definitely going to be uncomfortable. Hn.' He sat on
the bike and started it, riding away from the house and towards the
sun. * Duo moved forward and rested a hand against the door
the moment it closed. "Hee-kun." He felt his eyes burn.
'I want to go with him.' He rested his head against the door. 'I hate
this. I hate the sun. ....Then why the hell do I miss it so much?'
He turned and looked about the room, hating how empty it was with
Heero gone. An idea occurred to him and he took the small piece of
paper that he had gotten out of his car a few nights ago from his
pocket. He unfolded it and read the number, walking to the phone and
dialing the seven digits. Duo grinned. "Ohaiyo, Trowa. Is Quatre there?" "Hai. Chotto mate, kudasai." The sound of a phone being moved was static-like on
the line. A groggy voice soon spoke into the phone. "Mushi
mushi?" "Oi, Q-man." "Duo? Dai ja bu? It's late." "Don't you mean early?" Duo chuckled. Although Quatre was a day walker, he slept during the
sunlight. This way he could spend all his waking hours with his lover.
And hunting was a hard thing to do in the day light. "Hai, hai.
Is everything Ok? ...Heero...?" "Ah. Everything is fine. I was just calling to
say that we should get together. All of us. Even Wu-man." There was a short silence on the other end. "Is
there an ulterior motive here that I'm going to find out soon but
as to what I am currently clueless?" Duo laughed. "Yeah, yeah, you found me out. I was
thinking that we haven't gotten together in a few decades and that
it might be nice for everyone to see each other again. I can look
up Wufei. I'm sure he's around here if you thought you felt him. I
just need to find out which town." Quatre yawned. "Ok, Duo. I'll agree. But only if
you bring Heero. How are you two?" Duo grinned even though Quatre couldn't see him, he
knew he would know. "We're great. He spent the night here." Quatre chuckled. "Oh. So that's it." Duo was puzzled. "Nani?" Quatre sighed, a smile in his voice. "I was wondering
what you were doing up at this hour. Now I know." Duo could just picture the playful look on Quatres
face as he poked at the air as if it were Duo. "Mou. And here
I thought I was playing it cool. Yeah, I slept at night. I was tired.
And when Heero sleeps, there's something about it that makes you want
to, too. I can't figure it out." Quatre seemed distant though his voice still held a
smile. "Yeah. I know what you mean. Trowa is out like a light
again next to me. Young ones need so much sleep, ne? You called, he
answered, gave the phone to me and then passed out the second his
head hit the pillow. It was rather comical, really." He sighed.
"You need to get your sleeping schedule back to normal, though.
It's not natural to be awake during the day." 'We're not natural.' Duo thought bitterly. He never
was able to understand how Quatre could be so strong of heart. He
wanted to cry so much of the time, yet Quatre never seemed to be bothered
by being a vampire, the gentle blonde's sense of wanting to protect
innocents overriding any self loathing. Duo looked up to him, but
could never hope to understand the way he felt. "Ah. Wacataio."
Duo yawned. "How long have you known him, anyway?" Duo counted on his fingers. "Today's Thursday.
I met him on Saturday." There was a squawk on the other end of the line. He winced. 'Oh, boy, here it comes.' "Duo! You told him after only a few days?! Don't
you know how risky that is?!" Duo grimaced. "Actually... I told him on Saturday.
...He took it well." There was a silence from the other end for a moment
before Quatre shrieked and cursed loudly in a few different languages. "Hey, hey! I am NOT!" Duo defended. Quatre calmed down and sighed. "Well, I suppose
it's Ok. I mean, as it turns out, he had to accept you as you him.
You got lucky. Be thankful. I didn't tell Trowa for nearly a year
after I met him. And I still hesitated." "Yeah, well, you're lucky. Trowa would never have
figured it out, since you can be out and about in the day. I think
Heero would have gotten suspicious. Plus... He kind of knew that I
had killed some guys." "Nani?!" "I was calling on a back road and he came along.
You can imagine my surprise when he didn't have an aura, like Solo.
Anyway, he left when I said I was waiting for someone and saw me meet
three guys. He later found out they were dead from blood loss and
I was gone. I met him at a bar after that and told him everything.
He already knew what was going on. He just didn't know that I wasn't
evil or anything." Duo explained. "It would've only made
matters worse had I not told him." Quatre was silent and Duo knew he was thinking about
that. "So, you two are alright then? That thing the other night...
You're over it?" Duo nodded even though he was speaking on the phone.
"Ah. I just... I don't like surprises." "None of us do, Duo." Said Quatre softly.
"But he loves you. I could feel it from him. It was very strong.
And you feel the same." Duo thought about that for a moment. "Ah." Quatre was silent for a moment. "Duo..." "Don't say it." Duo warned. "Don't even." "Duo-kun, the time may come that you decide that_" "Oh, please please please PLEASE PLEASE DON'T TALK
ABOUT THIS WITH ME!!!" Duo yelled, feeling his anger and fear
rise alarmingly. "Onegai!" Quatre was silent, waiting for Duo to speak. Duo sighed. "Gomen nasai. Look, I have to go soon.
Are we going to get everyone together?" Quatre considered for a moment before speaking, a grin
in his voice. "Hai. I'll tell Trowa. And, Duo, I'll find Wufei.
I can track him at all hours. You get your sleep and remember to invite
Heero. How about my place on Monday?" Duo grinned. "Yosha. I'll have to get back to you
on the time. Hee-kun might be busy. I'll call you later for directions,
K?" Quatre yawned. "Yosha. Sayonara." "Ah. Ja na." Duo smiled and placed the phone
in its cradle. __________________________________________________________________________________ Back to
