Authors Notes: ^______^ Hi, minna! Guess what?! That’s right, I wrote yet another fic. How did you know? Heh. This I came up with while NOT drunk! Or tired! 0_0 For those who didn’t guess, history was just made with those two sentences. Don’t get me wrong, I’m quite plastered now, but when I got the idea I was sober. A new thing for me. This is angsty and very sappy. It wasn’t supposed to be but Bob is depressed because I haven’t been paying much attention to him as of late so he made this depressing. It’s an AU, and my first songfic. I hope I did it Ok. It’s a bit choppy, cuz I didn’t want it to be very long, but it gets the point across, ne? ^_^

“How Soon Is Now?” is by Tatu on their 200 KMPH In The Wrong Lane CD. It’s a KICK ASS CD. So say I.

(BOB): LESBIANS! WOOHOO!!! (drools)

(Leia): (gags Bob and shoves him back into closet) And Bob, apparently. ^_^’ If anyone has this CD, I recommend listening to this song as you read it. It’s # 5.

I want to dedicate this to my better half, my Koi, because she makes my heart to the bump-bump thing. I love you, baby. ^_~

How Soon is Now

//I am the son and the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar. //

“No! We will not accept this, Heero! Not from our only son!”

“How can you just drop this in front of us like this?!”

“You can’t expect us to deal with this!”

Heero regarded his parents calmly. “Why not? I have. And it’s not as bad as it sounds, really. I just prefer men. Particularly Duo. That doesn’t make me a bad person.”

“No! Just a bad son! You were to marry Kisume! How could you do this?!”

//I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular.//

“I didn’t do anything, Otousan!” His anger was getting the better of him. “All I did was forget my diary, which, by the way, is MY diary! You are the one who read it and didn’t like what you saw!”

“This isn’t about that, Heero, and you know it! This is about the abominations you and your…your…”

“Love of my life?” He supplied.

His father scowled. “…WHORE. This is about what you two have committed. Now, as your father, I will try to right you, therefore this has to stop now!”

Heero felt himself shake with anger and glared ice at his father. “No.”

His father turned bright red. “What did you just say, boy?!”

Heero set his stance and raised his chin. “No. This doesn’t stop. It never stops. I am who I am. If you can’t accept that, so be it, but I will not change. Believe me I didn’t try to be gay, it just happened. If you can’t accept that, I pity you.”

He never saw it coming. One moment his father was livid with rage before him, the next, Heero was flying backwards.

//You shut your mouth!
How can you say,
I go about things the wrong way?//

He pulled himself off the floor and looked to his father who seemed shocked by his own actions. Heero felt something dribble from his numb lip to his chin. He wiped at it with his hand and it came away red. He gaped at his father for a moment before he managed to speak. “F… Father?”

His father stared at Heero as if he had just punched HIMSELF, before his face became resolute. “Heero. You have one more year of high school left. I cannot force you from this house legally. But the day you graduate, you are to leave my house and not come back.”

Heero flinched at the words that caused more pain than the blow. He felt tears form in his eyes, but held them back. “Very well. I wouldn’t want to stay a day longer, anyway.” He mumbled as he walked out of his home for some space, out into the night air. As soon as his back was turned, he let the tears fall freely. ‘Mama, Papa, forgive me.’

//I am human and I need to be loved.
Just like everybody else does.//

Heero found himself staring up at Duo’s bedroom window on the second story of the suburban house, gazing at it for a moment before selecting a small pebble from the gravel driveway and hurling it to tap the window. A moment later, a head with a long, chestnut braid stuck out of the curtains and Duo smirked at him.

“Koban wa, Koi. Couldn’t sleep without me?”

Heero shook his head. “My parents found out. They know everything.”

Duo looked shocked and afraid for a moment before finding his voice, quiet as it was. “Shit!” He cursed in a bare breath. “How?!”

Heero lowered tear-filled eyes. “They found my diary. They both read it and now I have to leave home after I graduate. God.” He bent over and fell to the ground as a sudden wave of dizziness overtook him, squeezing his eyes closed. “God.”

Duo was by his side in moments and was hugging him fiercely. “Listen to me, Koi. We will get through this.”

Heero shook his head a little and then thought better of it and stopped as, if he were pushed just a little more, he would throw up, the situation making him physically ill. “They want me out of the house the day I can legally be kicked out. God, Duo.” He clung desperately to Duo’s pajama shirt as he sobbed. “How could this happen?”

“Shh…” Duo rocked him back and forth. “Shh… It’s Ok, Koi. When we graduated we were going to move in together anyway, ne? This doesn’t change that. Shh.” He kissed Heero’s hair tenderly.

Heero shook his head. “They are disowning me, Duo. My mother and father are throwing me away like a piece of trash. The same people who raised me and loved me this morning before I left for school. The people I always looked up to. They hate me. Oh god.”

//I am the son and the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar.//

Duo lifted his face to gaze into his eyes. “It’s Ok, Heero. I love you, Koi. I always will.” His violet eyes fell to Heero’s swollen and bleeding lip and he became sad, carefully inspecting the wound in the dark. “Did he hit you?”

Heero squeezed his eyes closed again and nodded, feeling more tears seep from closed lids. “He told me to change and when I said that I wouldn’t, he… He… Why do they think that this changes who I was yesterday?”

*

Duo shook his head, sympathy in his amethyst depths and merely held Heero close to himself. “It’s Ok, Koi. They’ll come around. They are just dealing with this and unfortunately they chose the easy way. Getting angry. This will pass and everything will be alright. And if they never do learn to see straight, we still have each other.” He kissed Heero’s cheek. “Ai shite ieru, Koi.”

Heero nodded against him as he continued to sob and the two stayed embraced on the cold ground for countless minutes as the sobbing became ragged breaths.

“Do you want to spend the night here?” Duo kissed his crown.

Heero nodded eagerly, not wanting in the least to go back to his house and his parents’ glares and accusations. “Kudasai.”

Duo kissed his crown again and helped him to stand.

The two walked silently up to Duo’s room, Duo grateful his parents were very heavy sleepers that left for work too early in the morning for Duo to see them much. He settled Heero and himself onto his small bed and held his lover tightly. “Go to sleep, Koi. I’ll watch over you.” He kissed Heero’s hair softly and rubbed his back.

Heero snuggled close to him and wrapped his arms firmly around him and they shared a small kiss before Heero spoke. “Duo?”

“Mm-hmm?”

“When can we run away? When will everything be better?”

Duo kissed his hair again. “Soon, Koi. I promise.”

Heero nodded and fell to sleep, having exhausted himself with his tears.

Duo traced his Koibito’s features after he fell to sleep and wiped away one last tear, wishing he could keep them away from his lover’s beautiful cheeks forever. Satisfied that Heero was safe, he rested his head in the crook of Heero’s neck and fell to sleep as well.

//I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular.//

The next day, Heero and Duo were just walking off the campus with their good friends Quatre, Trowa and Wufei walking behind them, talking in hushed tones that sounded suspiciously like pillow talk and every so often, an indignant huff from the Chinese student. Quatre, Trowa and Wufei knew of their relationship, but until the previous night were the only ones who did.

Heero and Duo paid no mind to what was being said behind them as they were talking about plans of the future.

“So, we’ll both get jobs. I’ll take whatever comes, and you already got the offer from the soft wear company with or without college training cause you’re so good at it. We’ll get by.” Said Duo reasonably, trying to calm Heero with rational thinking as it always worked.

“Get by with what? What’s he talking about, Hee-chan?” Came the voice of the blonde girl that never left Heero alone. Relena latched to his side, holding his arm and leaning her head on his shoulder.

Heero felt his hands begin to form into fists then quelled his rage, knowing that if he didn’t, he would hit the girl. Hard. “Nothing, Relena.” He carefully slipped his arm out of hers and started walking faster.

Relena was obviously stunned by the brush-off but continued to follow him at a distance as she did every now and then.

Heero was just going to speak to Duo when he heard the familiar engine of his parents’ SUV.

“Heero!” His father yelled as he stepped out of the car.

He turned pleading eyes to Duo, even though he knew he could do nothing more than stay by his side. He mouthed “don’t leave me” and Duo nodded readily, affirming that he had no intentions of going anywhere.

“Heero!” His mother this time. “Where have you been?!”

Heero gestured around himself. “At school. The same place I am every weekday.”

“Don’t get smart with us, young man! Where were you last night?!”

Heero wanted to say, “In Duo’s bed” but he knew that would be a bad move, so he just shrugged. “I didn’t want to be home.”

“So where did you go?!” Demanded his father as he stepped from the car.

“Papa, calm down please, you’re making a scene.” Heero glanced around to see that everybody walking from the campus had stopped to watch.

“I don’t CARE about what your little friends think, Heero! Get your ass in the car! You have some explaining to do!”

Now Heero was mad. “You really want to know where I was?!” He snarled. “Fine! I was sleeping in a warm bed with my boyfriend who loves me no matter what!!!”

His father paled and looked around quickly while his mother gasped and stared at him. “Don’t say that in public, Heero! You’ll bring shame to our house! It’s a disgrace!!!” Hissed his father.

//You shut your mouth!
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way?//

Heero stared at them and then glanced to Duo.

Duo gazed back into his eyes with a worrisome expression.

“Is that him?” Came his mother’s cold voice.

Heero took Duo’s hand and stepped towards his parents. “Otousan, Okasan, this is Duo.” He gave his lover a pleading look and Duo smiled wryly at them, rather than lash out the way Heero knew he wanted to.

“Mr. Yuy. Mrs. Yuy.” He said politely.

Heero’s parents were not impressed. “Get in the car, Heero. We are going home this instant. Leave your little boyfriend here, he is not welcome in our house.”

Heero gazed at Duo as he felt tears form in his eyes.

//I am human and I need to be loved.//

“Wait! You mean Heero is GAY?!”

All heads turned to Relena who seemed to be ill for some reason.

“Come on, Relena. I’ll buy you a soda pop.” Said Quatre gently as he tried to lead her away and make the situation a little less stressful for the two lovers.

Relena allowed herself to be pulled away for a moment before she turned back. “Heero! You’re a fag?!”

Heero flinched at the word and his father yelled at the girl.

“You keep your dirty little mouth shut! My son is not gay!”

Finally Heero spoke up. “Yes! I am! I’m gay! And I love Duo more than anything in the world! Why can’t you just be happy for me?!” He shouted in rage at his father.

His mother gasped again and gave him a meaningful look that said “Shut up”.

Heero shook his head as tears fell from his eyes that gazed at the ground. “Mama, Papa, I love Duo. There’s nothing you can do about it. I am happy with him and I don’t care if the world knows it.”

His father glowered at him. “Get. In. The. Car. Boy.”

More tears formed and Heero gazed at Duo for a moment before he leaned forward and the two shared a long but chaste kiss for anyone to see. Then Heero’s hand was being pulled and the kiss broke as he was dragged away to the car.

//Just like everybody else does.//

* * *

“You are not to see that boy again, Heero. Not as long as you live under my roof. After you graduate, you may do whatever you like, I do not care. But until then, you are to have no contact with him. Do you understand me?”

Heero nodded solemnly, even though he had no intentions of just cutting himself off from the only good thing in his life. “Yes, father.”

“Go to your room. You have brought enough grief to me and your mother these last two days, stay there until the morning.”

Heero nodded and trudged up the stairs to his room. He closed the door behind himself and leaned on it, trying to keep the tears from falling to his cheeks. “Duo…”

There was a small tapping at his window and his heart leapt. He ran to it and threw the curtains aside, pushing up the pane of glass. He looked about in the dark outside for a moment before he saw his Koi standing in the shadows the trees made.

“Heero.” Duo whispered. “Are you locked in?”

Heero nodded. “They told me to stay in here until the morning.”

“Oh. Are you going to?”

Heero smirked and shook his head and Duo mirrored the facial expression.

//There's a club if you'd like to go.
You could meet somebody who really loves you.//

“I was hoping you’d say that. Do you want to go to the club? We can’t hang out at my place, my mom and pop are up and I think one set of parents finding out is enough, ne? Plus your parents might think to look there. I’m ready to leave when you are.” He stepped out of the shadows and Heero saw that he wore his best outfit, tight black jeans and a black silk shirt.

Heero nodded. “I’ll get dressed.” He smiled as he felt more tears form in his eyes. “Thanks for sticking by me today, Koi.”

Duo smiled sadly. “I would never leave you, Hee-kun. Come on, let’s go, we don’t your parents walking in while you get dressed to go clubbing, ne?”

Heero nodded and quickly changed into a pair of tight black jeans and a dark blue silk shirt as well, the best outfit he had. He sneaked outside onto the roof from his window and carefully descended to the ground using the branches of the tree, his favorite one for this very reason. Once his feet touched the ground, he took Duo’s hand and they ran from the house, oblivious to the figure in the shadows on the other side of the front yard.

* * *

Loud music and flashing lights. This was where his son had run off to? Gendo Yuy looked about the club to see men dancing with men and women dancing with women. It was a gay club! He looked about and saw his son dancing with the boy Duo, both laughing as if they were doing something good. It made him ill. He watched for a few moments as the two stopped dancing and walked to the bar, holding hands, and each got a soda. After some talk that he couldn’t hear over the din of voices and music, he saw Duo lean forward and kiss his son. His son wrapped his fingers around the other boy’s braid and the two kissed for long moments, obviously using their tongues.

//So you go, and you stand on your own.
And you leave on your own and you go home,
And you cry and you want to die.//

Gendo felt ill, and quickly turned with tears in his eyes from what his only son was doing, heading outside to the cold night.

He never saw the two break the kiss and look into each other’s eyes with nothing but love.

* * *

Heero climbed into his room and carefully jumped to the floor, trying to be as silent as possible to keep his parents from suspecting. He looked up and saw his father standing in his room. ‘Ohhhh… SHIT!’

“Heero. What kind of fool do you take me for?”

Heero felt himself begin to shake? “What, Papa?”

“Do you think I’m stupid?! I was outside, waiting for you to do something like this! I saw you and your little boyfriend go to the club and I followed you there!” He smirked cruelly at Heero’s look of shock. “I guess you were too busy shoving your tongue down his throat to see me. You are disgusting, Heero.”

Heero clenched his fists and glared at his father. “Me?! YOU were the one who spied on his son! We didn’t do anything wrong!”

“You disobeyed me, Heero!”

Heero glared at him. “Well, maybe if you were a little more accepting, I wouldn’t have had to disobey.”

His father merely continued to glare at him. “You are grounded Heero. You are to leave in the mornings and go directly to school. After school you are to come straight home and begin your studies. On top of that, I will call Duo’s parents and tell them of his nightly activities. That will keep it from happening again.”

Heero thought of what he could say to keep his father from telling his Koi’s parents. “They already know he’s gay, Papa.”

“Oh. Then this will come as no shock to them.” His father turned and headed out of the room.

As soon as his back was turned, Heero jumped out the window and hit the ground running, sprinting to his lover’s house.

* * *

Once Heero reached the house, he was sweating and out of breath but he could hear yelling within. It was too late. “Oh, god.” He fell to his hands and knees and cried as he heard the accusations coming from within the house.

“FINE!!!” Shouted Duo. “I’ll leave!”

The front door exploded open and Duo stormed out, slamming it behind himself. He was crying, as he walked away from the house and then his eyes landed on Heero. “Hee… Hee-kun?”

Heero bowed his head and sobbed. “I’m so sorry, Duo.”

Duo walked up and sat by him on the ground, putting a hand on his back. “It’s Ok, Koi. We still have each other. That’s all that matters. Shh. We’ll get through this. It was bound to happen. I was asked to leave after I graduated as well. It’s Ok, Koi. Everything is going to be Ok now.” He pulled Heero to himself and rocked back and forth, holding him tightly.

Heero clung to him tightly as they both cried.

//When you say it's gonna happen "now",
When exactly do you mean?
See, I've already waited too long,
And all my hope is gone…//

* * *

Heero walked up to where his parents were standing away from the rest of the crowd, glaring at him. He felt the weight of the diploma in his hand, but he still couldn’t believe he had it. It symbolized the beginnings of his future, and the end of his current life. The end of his relationship with his parents, both a blessing and a curse.

//You shut your mouth!
How dare you say
I go about things the wrong way?//

“This is it, then.” He said, fingering the piece of paper. “I’ll pack my things.”

His father continued to look on him with disgust. “We are going to go out for a few hours. When we get home, we want you gone.”

Heero nodded his head solemnly. “I will be. Goodbye, Okasan, Otousan.” He met eyes with his mother and father briefly before turning and walking away to watch as Duo did much the same thing with his parents.

Duo walked away and met Heero’s eyes and they both looked back to their parents.

Each pair were glaring at each other, hating the other for raising a gay son that somehow tainted their own.

Duo looked back to Heero with tears in his eyes. “That was it. The last time I see them.” He smiled weakly through the tears. “It’s… It’s strange to think… You know?” A tear fell from each eye.

Heero hugged him tightly and kissed his hair. “I know. Come on. Let’s go pack our stuff and get out of here. Everything will be fine from now on. Like you said, we still have each other. Ne?” He kissed his brow tenderly and stroked his hair out of his eyes. “Come on. It’s now.”

“Hai, Koi.” Duo wiped his tears away and no more came. “Let’s go.”

Heero nodded and kissed him softly. He pulled away after a moment and smiled sadly. “Ai shite ieru, Koi.”

Duo grinned weakly. “Ai shite ieru.”

Heero took his hand and gave it a squeeze as they began walking.

//I am human and I need to be loved.
Just like everybody else does.//

THE END
