Disclaimer: I WISH I was making money off this.
And I wish I owned the characters. But, sadly, they're just my playthings
and other people who are richer and happier than I can claim otherwise. Rating: R Warnings: TWT, shounen ai, sap, fluff, occaisional silliness, humor, angst, blood, violence, language, kinda super natural. Archive: Steal it or any parts of it and I WILL
kill you. Im not kidding, Ive seen me do it Pairings: 1x2 Authors Notes: It's Super Natural in a really wierd way(that isn't even a good way to describe it), *NOT* SCI-FI, *NOT* DARK in the least, and it's something that I'm sure many of us have thought of at one time or another but I've never read anything about it so I'm changing that. Hmph. I hope you like it. ^_^ Spoilers: Yeah, a few. Unfortunately, they are from several episodes from all over the the series(including the Episode Zero manga) so listing them all would be pointless. And they are things that I think everyone knows already. But, to cover my own ass, if you have not seen the show, don't read. Also, why would you be here? 0_o Feedback: I will love you forever if you let me know what you think. Good comments adored, CC welcomed, flames laughed at. THANKS TO... KOHAKU!!! (glomps!), who helped me
work out a few things with the fic. You rock!
"Birds Of A Feather"
Chapter 6
Heero awoke just as the first trace of morning light appeared in the room and looked over to Duo. The braided pilot was sound asleep. He slept better than I did. He thought a little bitterly. I had to remain perfectly still all night. Not comfortable. A little more light crept into the room and Heero sighed and collapsed his wings slowly so as not to lose any feathers. He lifted a hand to reach over and shake Duo, but stopped halfway to his shoulder. He gazed at him. Hes so peaceful when he sleeps. His gaze shifted from Duos face to his braid that was snaked over the back of his neck to rest on the bed, the tip of it somewhat close to Heero. Heero brought his hand back and shoved it under his pillow to prop his head up a little more. He stared at the braid for a moment before returning his eyes to Duos face. Duos lips were parted just slightly for his breathing. His face was relaxed and his lashes rested on his cheeks. Heero sighed for an unknown reason and decided to let Duo sleep a little longer. He didnt want to sleep with his wings collapsed because they had to stay hidden the rest of the day as well and he did not want to needlessly endure the back pain it would bring later, so he remained awake, but he could still enjoy the peace and quiet. Let him sleep. He thought with a yawn. He needs it. * * * Duo. Duo moaned and rolled over to press his face into his pillow. Someone shook him and gently rolled him back over onto his back. Its over. Duo opened his eyes blearily and looked up to see Heero standing over him. Heero was wearing light blue jeans and no shirt, but his wings were nowhere to be seen. Duo blinked. Huh? Whats over? The storm. Heero answered and tipped his head in the direction of the window. Duo looked over to it and saw that the curtains were parted a few inches. Through the part, he could see clear skies. Oh. Right. You survived. Heero said with a tone that was almost like sarcasm. Duo looked up at him. Heero looked back down at him but didnt say anything. His eyes widened. Oh, you want your bed back. Sorry. He stood up and walked to the door. Dont worry about it. Heero said behind him. Ill get up in an hour. Duo looked behind himself as Heero climbed back onto the bed and collapsed on it, face down. Okay. He stepped out into the hall and began to close the door. Uh, goodnight. He said and clicked the door closed. Goodnight? Baka. He thought to himself as he headed to his room. He felt a little giddy, his heart beating quickly, and he couldnt stop himself from grinning ear-to-ear every time he thought of how nice Heero had been to let him stay the night. What is this? He wondered. Whatever it is, I hope it never goes away. He hummed to himself as he walked down the hall. * Heero heard his door closed and immediately let his wings out. MUCH better. He thought as he let his mind wander and dropped his wings so they rested on either side of him on the bed. Well that was the most interesting night Ive had in a while. Duo... Shinigami... Scared of a storm. He smirked into his blanket. I wonder if anyone would believe it. Probably not. Just like no one would believe him if he said I had white wings. He felt himself drifting towards unconsciousness. He had slept during the first part of the night, but then the sounds of the storm gave him trouble. They reminded him of things... Nightmares followed storms for him. He had learned that at a very young age when he had been in a few. During the night, he had dreamt of his family. He had not done that in a long time. Then there was the fact that he could only lay in one position the rest of the night after Duo had joined him, to keep from touching him with his wings. And the fact that he had awoken early to collapse them before Duo awoke and saw them and had ended up watching Duo and letting him sleep a while more instead, left him a little tired. And, having no reason to have to get up, drifting back into unconsciousness was an easy matter. I guess we both know a secret about each other now. He turned his head to rest his cheek on the cloth and yawned. But which one is less believable? He wondered as he fell back to sleep. * Duo looked at his bed but knew he wasnt going to fall back to sleep. I guess Ill go to the store and get the paper instead. Hopefully, the power will be back on by the time I get back. He thought and changed his clothes. Walking into the kitchen, he grabbed Heeros last banana muffin out of the refrigerator to eat on the way. Ill buy him some more while Im there so he wont miss it. He thought as he headed to the door and walked out. * * * At Seven, Heero stumbled down the stairs and made a beeline for the kitchen. I need some oolong tea and a muffin or something STAT. His stomach complained at him for sleeping in and he reached the fridge and opened the door. And closed it again. Okay. I KNOW that he didnt. I must have imagined it. He pulled the fridge door open again and looked inside. Sitting innocently next to the milk on the main shelf were six loaves. He narrowed his eyes and read the labels, confirming his suspicion, and closed the door again, closing his eyes and feeling the vain in his temple twitch a little. DUO!!! He yelled around the wall and up the stairs. THATS NOT FUCKING FUNNY!!! Footsteps came running down the hall and stairs and Duo appeared in the kitchen. What? His eyes were as innocent as the loaves in the refrigerator. Heero glared at him and opened the door to pull out a loaf and shove it in his face. Angel Food Cake?! What the fuck?! Duo grinned. Oh, I thought we could give it a try. Heero stared at him like he was an idiot. A try? A TRY? You bought SIX LOAVES! Thats not a try, thats a stock for a bomb-shelter! What the hell were you thinking buying it in the first place?! Did you just want to make fun of me?! No. He shook his head with wide eyes. Why ELSE would you even think of_ Hey, you dont have to eat it if you dont want it. Duo said with a small frown. Heero tossed it onto the counter with disgust and opened the fridge again. What happened to my last banana muffin? Duo placed his hand behind his head. Oh, I kinda ate it this morning. I was gonna buy more but the store was out. The checker said that hed get more tomorrow. Closing the fridge, Heero sighed. Fine. Yeah. I dont need a muffin. Im just going to have my tea, check the paper... He moved away from Duo to the stove, grabbing the kettle to fill it with water. ...make a few adjustments to Wing, if I have some time, maybe do some reading... He placed the kettle on the stove and glanced back to Duo who was munching on a large slice of the angel food cake. His eyebrow twitched. And if I get hungry, I can always eat one of my bullets. He thought sarcastically to himself as he took the sugar bowl out of the cabinet and grabbed a cup. He heard Duo walk out of the kitchen and leaned against the counter, watching the kettle and waiting for the water to boil. Oh, Im being childish. He took a tea bag out of the box of his favorite kind and put it in his cup. When the water boiled, he filled the cup and waited for the bag to steep. His eyes wandered to the loaf that Duo had left on the counter and his stomach growled again. He looked away, annoyed. This is just TOO degrading. He thought as he pushed himself away from the stove and walked to the counter to cut himself a small slice of the stuff. Listening to make sure Duo wasnt about to walk in, he took a bite. It could be worse. He thought as he moved back to his tea. Throwing away the teabag and adding an obscenely ridiculous amount of sugar, he stirred it and placed his spoon in the sink and headed to the table where Duo had left the paper. Taking his usual seat facing the living room, he was just sitting down when Duo walked in. He looked up. Duos eyes wandered from Heeros and to Heeros hand instead and he grinned. Heero looked down and saw that Duo was grinning about the slice with the bite taken out of it. He glared at him. Just because Im eating it doesnt mean I like it so dont get any ideas. He said coldly. Duo nodded and removed his grin with great difficulty and only half-successfully. Of course not. Heero narrowed his eyes at the braided boy for a moment. Great. Now hes mocking me. This day has only just started and already it cant get more annoying. He set it down in favor of the paper and opened it to the political section. He smirked slightly as he saw pictures of Heavy Arms and Sandrock in action at the top of the page with the caption More attacks, is an end in sight? directly under them. Trowa and Quatre have been busy. Duo laughed. Yeah, looks like. He grabbed the cake off the counter, setting it on the table, and sat next to Heero rather than across from him, leaning over to read the article as well. Heero noted the closeness, but couldnt move away because if he did, they couldnt both read it. He scowled, partially because of the lies he read on the page, but mostly because of where the battle it told of had taken place. Theyve gotten further away than where Quatre said he was last. He glanced to Duo. I think its going to be longer than we expected before any of them come back to Earth. He said softly as his gaze slid towards the other pilot and he waited to see the disappointment on Duos face for being stuck in the house with him. Instead, Duo shrugged and took a bite of his cake, still reading the article. Yeah well, like you said yesterday, were soldiers. We go where the battles are and we fight for as long as it takes. Heero was taken aback. When I told him of Quatres delay just the other day, he looked like it had been a death sentence. Now he doesnt seem to care. Interesting. He handed the paper to Duo and picked up his tea instead, blowing on it to cool it a little before taking a sip. Duo flipped through the pages until he saw something he found interesting and began to read it. Heero enjoyed the silence as he sipped his tea. This is nice. He thought as Duo grinned at something on the page. Pleasantly quiet. He wondered how often he would have the chance to just sit quietly with Duo after it was decided that they could return to active duty. He realized, sadly, that the chance would most likely never come again. So, even when his tea was gone and he and Duo had both finished off the loaf of angel food cake, he continued to sit there and let the moment last as long as it could. * * *
Awww.... (stupid grin) Bob: (closes eyes and shakes head) Why did I EVER think
