Disclaimer: I WISH I was making money off this. And I wish I owned the characters. But, sadly, they're just my playthings and other people who are richer and happier than I can claim otherwise.

Rating: R

Warnings: TWT, shounen ai, sap, fluff, occaisional silliness, humor, angst, blood, violence, language, kinda super natural.

Archive: Steal it or any parts of it and I WILL kill you. I’m not kidding, I’ve seen me do it

Pairings: 1x2

Authors Notes: It's Super Natural in a really wierd way(that isn't even a good way to describe it), *NOT* SCI-FI, *NOT* DARK in the least, and it's something that I'm sure many of us have thought of at one time or another but I've never read anything about it so I'm changing that. Hmph.

I hope you like it. ^_^

Spoilers: Yeah, a few. Unfortunately, they are from several episodes from all over the the series(including the Episode Zero manga) so listing them all would be pointless. And they are things that I think everyone knows already. But, to cover my own ass, if you have not seen the show, don't read. Also, why would you be here? 0_o

Feedback: I will love you forever if you let me know what you think. Good comments adored, CC welcomed, flames laughed at.

THANKS TO... KOHAKU!!! (glomps!), who helped me work out a few things with the fic. You rock!

"Birds Of A Feather"

Well, here we are. The final chapter.

Suggested Listening: For the first part, Eve Six’s “Here’s to the Night”.

After the second * * * , Dido’s “Here With Me” works pretty well.

Happy reading!

CHAPTER 13:

Duo let Heero walk into the house after him and closed the door.

The other pilot’s wings were hidden once again and his tank top was on. His eyes seemed dazed and tired and his face had no _expression at all.

Frowning slightly, Duo watched him for a moment and Heero glanced to him before moving away to stand in front of the window, staring out into the night.

After their kiss, which had been more than amazing, Heero had remained quiet, looking slightly nervous. It seemed almost as if he was afraid of something. Now, he was obviously uncomfortable. He looked as if he was not sure what to do at that moment.

‘That’s a first.’ Duo thought. He reached out and took Heero’s hand in his, holding it gently.

Heero jumped slightly but remained standing where he was. His eyes never left the window, but his hand squeezed Duo’s a little.

Duo took that as a good sign. “Heero?”

“Ah.” Heero still didn’t look at him but his voice sounded exhausted.

Duo looked at the clock. They still had a few minutes before the time that they usually went to bed, but he was tired as well. ‘Today was a roller coaster. Of course we’re both weary.’ “Heero? Will you talk to me?”

Heero glanced in his direction from the corners of his eyes for a moment before returning them to the glass. “About what?”

“Everything? Us? You?” He asked quietly.

Heero’s shoulders had tensed a little at the last word. He glanced to him again before turning his head to look out the side of the window opposite from Duo, his face hidden. “...What do you want to know?” His tone was extremely hesitant.

Blinking, Duo smiled wryly. ‘This is going to be like pulling teeth.’

Then, to his shock, Heero turned and looked him in the eye, waiting for him to speak.

Duo gazed into his eyes for a moment before glancing at the couch. “Do you mind if I sit down?” He asked, intending it to be an invitation.

Heero did not pick up on it, or if he did, he declined. “Go ahead.” He released his hand.

Sighing, Duo nodded and walked over and threw himself back against the arm of the couch so he could face Heero. He brought his legs up and stretched them over the cushions. It felt good to give them a break.

Heero remained standing by the window. He watched as Duo ensconced himself on the sofa before turning his eyes away to stare at the door.

‘He’d better not think for one second that he can leave.’ Duo thought and spoke quickly. “So talk to me. What do we do now?”

Heero sighed and glanced to him. “...Wakara nai.” He looked away.

“Are you going to go back to being a bastard to me?”

Heero seemed surprised by the question and his eyes quickly returned to Duo’s. “Never.”

“Good.” Duo smiled. “That was getting really annoying.”

“Hn.” Heero nodded. “It wasn’t fun for me, either.”

“Why did you do it?” Duo asked and watched the other pilot closely.

*

Looking away from the long-haired pilot, Heero sighed again. He was exhausted. He would have liked nothing more than to take Duo to bed and fall asleep in his arms, but he knew that they had to talk things through a little before they could rest.

Now that he wasn’t going to try to keep Duo away anymore, he knew that he had to talk to him, tell him a few things he had to know. There was no way that he could keep him from being close to him anymore. Duo would not just let him go so easily now. Now, his only shot at surviving was if he understood why Heero had been trying to push him away. It was worth breaking his usual near-silence to help Duo understand a few things and make him realize the gravity of the situation. And he was too damned tired to remain as deliberately quiet as always and have to deal with Duo drilling him for answers. He was too tired to push him away. And he didn’t want to.

‘The best way to deal with this is to just tell him what he wants to know.’ He conceded wearily. He answered. “...Because I like you.”

A pause. “That is officially the weirdest answer of all time.” Duo replied.

Taking a step forward towards the other boy, Heero caught himself before he walked over.

Duo’s eyes widened at that. When Heero stopped, he sat up, folding his legs. “Hey...” He leaned forward and patted the opposite side of the couch.

Heero’s legs seemed to like Duo’s idea and he walked over and fell back onto the cushions. He closed his eyes for a moment before he felt Duo take his hand again. Looking over to him, he blinked.

Duo was smiling that genuine smile that had always made Heero melt.

He felt himself do so.

“So, you were saying?” He continued to smile and he squeezed Heero’s hand.

‘That’s it. I have to hold him.’ Heero thought and quickly pulled Duo against him, turning to lean against the arm of the sofa much the same way Duo had a moment before.

Duo seemed surprised, but all too happy with that, and he turned and snuggled back against him.

Heero stretched his legs out over the couch in front of himself. Duo sat in his lap on the cushion, between Heero’s legs, leaned back against him, his head resting on Heero’s shoulder.

The other pilot took Heero’s hands that had been on his waist and entwined his fingers with Heero’s, holding them over his lower chest.

Heero was amazed at how content he felt at that moment.

“So, once again, we were talking about something?”

Suddenly remembering that they had indeed been talking, Heero sighed and gave in, picking up where he had left off. He spoke slowly, partly to make certain that Duo understood everything he said, and partly because he was too tired to speak any faster. “Ah. ...I was trying to protect you. No one was supposed to know. Those who do may be killed. If I have friends, it is more likely that they will know. So I don’t act very friendly to people to keep them from wanting to be friendly with me and finding out. And if I have a... what we are now... then there is no chance that they will not.” He kissed Duo’s hair softly. “If J finds out about us or the fact that you know about me, you WILL be killed.” He went on. “But if we are extremely careful, he won’t find out.”

“Oh. Great.” Duo said sarcastically. “Why would he want to kill me?”

“Because of what I can do. I naturally have faster reflexes, greater strength, and better healing capabilities than others, though J’s training enhanced the first two even more. Also, my wings give me many capabilities other soldiers do not have. I can infiltrate almost anywhere without any help from machines or tools. A great strength. However, if they are found out, they can become a weakness. I usually need to let them out every day. If I am captured, I cannot hide them for very long. And if they were discovered, OZ would change the security measures it takes on its bases and my advantage would become useless.”

“Yeah, that makes sense.”

“If J found out that someone had learned of this strength and weakness, he would have them killed to keep them from talking. And, chances are, he would order me to be the one to do it.” He sighed and said what he had wanted to say for too long. “I tried not to like you, Duo. I tried SO HARD. That way, if I had to do that, it wouldn’t hurt so much, but I couldn’t do it. I acted nicer to you than anyone else because I liked you. And yet, I also acted crueler to you than anyone else for the same reason. Especially since you found out, there were times that I realized that I was not helping you by being friendly. So I would try to end it. By any means necessary. I am SO SORRY that I hurt you, Duo, but I was doing it for your own good. I was trying to make you hate me so you would stay away from me and not be in danger. When you found out about me and I hit you, it was because I was angry with you for finding me out and putting yourself in that danger. I have not told J that you found out because I do not want you to be killed.”

Duo turned his head and looked up to him. “Wait. If J had ordered you to kill me...”

Heero looked down to him. “I would have had to.”

Duo blinked. “Why?”

“I’m a soldier and he is my commander. I receive his orders and I carry them out.”

“But you’re also a huma... A person. Right? So you’re not ONLY a soldier.”

“I am.” Heero said. “Today is the first day in a long time that I have been anything but only a soldier.”

“I don’t get that.”

Heero rested his chin on Duo’s head. ‘Tell him.’ He ordered himself. When he spoke, he found it a little easier to talk about than he had thought. “I was born and raised to fight and try to win this war. My parents were killed when I was a very young child and I was taken from my home, but even before then, they knew that I would be the one to fight. Somehow, I’m not sure exactly, they knew. It was destiny. I was raised by a man named Odin Lowe. A friend of the family. He taught me about weapons and killing. When he himself was killed, I continued to learn everything I could on my own until Doctor J began training me. My whole life has, quite literally, been in preparation for now. So, now that I am fighting this war and fulfilling my destiny, I must devote myself to it completely and I cannot leave it.”

“You hate birds...” Duo trailed off.

“Because they can fly away.” Heero finished softly for him. “Something I can never do.”

Duo was quiet for a moment. “So... Your family... Where were they from?”

Heero closed his eyes. He knew that the only reason he could answer any questions about his past was that he was so tired and comfortable with Duo against him that he could not seem to put his walls up. It seemed that the other pilot had temporarily broken them down and he knew that he would not be able to speak so freely later. “...I grew up in the mountains in Japan until I was Four. My entire family lived there until they were killed.”

“Do you remember them?”

“Hai. But I don’t have very many memories. I have a feather from both my mother and father. They are more real to me than any of my memories.”

“Can I see them?”

“Later.” Heero answered without pause. He opened his eyes and blinked as he realized that he had agreed so easily. He never allowed anyone to even see the box, much less Okasan and Otousan. ‘It seems I not only like him. I trust him, too. Hn.’

“Who killed them?” Duo asked softly.

“Frightened men who claimed to know everything but understood nothing. Fools.” He spat. “They had heard a silly rumor. So, on a stormy night, they attacked our houses.” He closed his eyes again and fought the vague memories he had of that night. “...Odin was visiting us at the time. He hid me and sneaked me out after my parents were killed.”

“Oh.” Duo said quietly. “So then… you were born this way?”

“Ah.” Heero opened his eyes and moved his head back to look at Duo through them though they were half-mast. “Are you happy that you’re getting answers?”

Duo looked up to him with a somber _expression. “While I like that you’re being open with me, I wouldn’t call myself ‘happy’ about these answers.” He replied.

Heero shrugged. “We all have a story. None of us has a good one.”

Duo nodded. “That’s true.” He sighed. “So then this is a family trait? I had kinda assumed that J had done it to you.”

“Iye. Genetic.” Heero answered shortly. He did not want to focus on their differences.

“How? I mean, I’ve never heard of this.”

“I don’t know all the details.”

“You don’t want to find out more? Or see if you can meet anyone else?” Duo sounded puzzled.

Heero shook his head. “Not interested. It’s past. And why would I want to meet someone else?”

Duo grinned up at him. “Very funny.”

“Hn. I’ve considered going to Japan to find the place where I used to live after the war is over. …But I don’t know if it will ever happen.” He let that hang in the air for a moment and Duo nodded, understanding what he meant. He could be dead before then. Or perhaps he simply would not be able to handle being there and he would never go.

“Hey.” Duo sat up a little. “Let me see your back.” It was an obvious change of subject and Heero realized that Duo didn’t really want to dwell on the chance of either of them dying before the war ended.

He accepted the new line of conversation but shook his head. “I am NOT moving.”

Duo smiled to him. “Then let me feel it.” His hands snaked around to Heero’s upper back, feeling carefully. “There’s nothing...”

Heero tensed a little before forcing himself to relax. No one ever touched his back anymore. “What were you expecting?” He asked with a raised brow.

“I don’t know. Bumps or something. All I feel is muscle. Where do they go?”

Scowling slightly, Heero answered. “Duo, a black hole can collapse a planet the size of Earth down to a pebble the size of a pea.” He said to the eyes right in front of his own. “Muscle is what holds them in when I Fold them. That is what you are feeling.”

“...’Fold them’...” The eyes went wide. “Are you saying that your back is a black hole?”

“No!” Heero said, a little annoyed by the stupid question. “I’m saying that it is not as physically impossible as one would think.”

“Uh-huh.” Duo agreed. “...Do they hurt?”

“Not really.” Heero dropped the scowl. “Keeping them collapsed for too long hurts. Letting them out is more of a relief.”

“Oh. How does it work?” His nose scrunched adorably. “Am I bugging you?”

Heero shook his head. “You could never bug me.” He said, amazed at how open he was being. “...From what I’ve noticed and been told by J and Odin, the skin directly where they emerge is thinner than the rest. When they Fold and Unfold, it’s easier than one would assume. Also, the skin there is unique because it heals so quickly that it does not even bleed as it happens. The rest of me heals quickly as well, but the skin in those areas heals infinitely faster.”

Duo examined Heero’s knuckles. “They’re almost all better...” He sighed and looked up to Heero’s crown. “Like the cut on your head.”

“Your black eye is just about gone, too.” Heero answered. “I think we both heal quickly.”

“We’re Gundam Pilots, ne? It’s part of the job.” Duo grinned and settled back against him. “So your life is the reason that you take this war so seriously.” He said. “I always wondered.”

He sighed. “I was born to be a soldier. It’s only natural that that’s what I am to the exclusion of all else.” He glanced to Duo and added to that statement. “Until today. I am a Gundam Pilot. It is who I am. I’m alive for one reason and one reason only. So I only let myself live for one reason.”

“Well, I think that reason and I are going to have to share you from now on.” Duo turned slightly and smiled up at him.

“Hn.” He felt himself melt again and gave Duo a hint of a smile in return.

Duo seemed ecstatic. “Do that more often, K?”

“Maybe.” Heero replied and kissed Duo’s hair before resting his chin on it.

“Hmmm.” Duo moaned. “This is like a dream.”

“No.” Heero shook his head slightly. “Better.” He tightened his arms around Duo.

Duo tilted his head back and they kissed again, Heero sliding his fingers into Duo’s hair.

When they broke, Heero cradled Duo’s head on his shoulder and rested his own against it. He felt breathless and the room spun a little. “Goddamn, Duo.”

Duo giggled. “It’s really funny to hear you say that. What with you looking like an angel on occasion and all.”

Heero smirked. “I suppose.”

“You’re not offended this time when I said that?”

Heero sighed. “...I don’t like being called that because I have killed so many people and will kill more. ...But the wings do tend to throw one off.” He admitted.

*

“Big time.” Duo nodded. “Especially for someone who lived in a church as a child.”

“Hn?”

He sighed. “I don’t have a good story, either, Heero.”

Heero tightened his arms around him, not asking, but not asking him to stay quiet, either.

Duo sighed and decided to tell Heero a little about his past. It was only fair. “My family died when I was young, too, but I don’t remember them. I lived on the street until Maxwell Church took me in. After the church was destroyed and everyone in it was killed, that was when I decided to start fighting. Someone had to do it and I wanted to so that’s how I ended up becoming a Gundam Pilot.” He glossed over many of the facts, but they were not important right then.

“…Hn.” Heero answered thoughtfully.

Not wanting to get further into it at that moment, Duo shook his head. He was quiet for only a few seconds before he spoke suddenly as he remembered what he had thought of on their last mission. “Hey!” He looked up at him. “I just remembered something. I was reminded of this on our mission when I had to help you walk and then again today when I was running towards the cliff. If you are supposed to live and win this war, WHY did you try to commit suicide after I broke you out of the hospital?” He demanded.

Heero shook his head. “I didn’t.”

“But_”

“I’m used to free-falling, Duo. I was extremely disoriented and I let myself fall longer than I should have. I had planned to open my wings before I realized where I was and that I couldn’t do it in front of so many people and I pulled the chord too late.”

“Oh. I thought Relena made you pull it.”

Heero glared at the wall. “I hate that girl.”

Duo smiled. “Good. For a while I thought you liked her.”

“She is necessary for world peace. I don’t have to like her to see that. And, despite that, I still hate her.” Heero’s eyes narrowed a little more.

Something occurred to Duo. “So... Does this make us gay?”

Heero’s eyes widened and he blinked before looking down to Duo. “I never thought of that. It never occurred to me that we are both boys.”

“Me neither until just now.” Duo said with a blush.

“Funny.”

“Yeah.” He rested his head against Heero’s shoulder.

“I think that makes us in love. Who cares about the rest?” Heero answered and kissed his hair.

“Yeah.” Duo said dreamily. “So when we have to leave Earth and go into space, what do we do?”

*

Heero felt a pain in his heart at that thought. “Pretend nothing happened. We can’t have what we want now. We have to wait for it. So we’ll act like none of this ever happened. Until the end of the war. That’s when my contract with J ends. That’s when I can begin my life.”

“And you can fly away...” Duo said thoughtfully. He entwined his fingers with Heero’s again.

Heero brought their joined hands to his lips and kissed Duo’s.

“Heero?” Duo’s voice was relaxed.

“Ah.”

“Have you ever heard the saying ‘Birds of a feather flock together.’?”

Heero shook his head slightly. “No. Another of the many annoying American sayings?”

Duo nodded. “Yeah, but this one actually means something.”

“What?”

“Basically, that the same kinds of birds stay together and follow each other, always. That people who are alike, meet and stick with each other. Sometimes forever.” He squeezed Heero’s hand. “We’re a lot alike.”

Heero smiled slightly. “Are you saying we’re going to be together forever?”

Duo turned and looked up to Heero. His eyes shone with love and determination and he was serious as he spoke. “I’m saying that wherever you fly, I will follow you.”

Heero’s heart felt like it would suddenly burst with the emotions he had for the other pilot and he slid himself down the couch quickly so he and Duo were even and held him tightly, kissing him soundly.

Duo wrapped his arms around him and moaned into the kiss.

They broke and Heero gasped for breath slightly.

“You’re amazing.” He said and kissed Duo’s cheek.

*

Duo purred and buried his face in Heero’s shoulder.

Long moments passed as they stayed that way, neither one willing to move and give up the other even for a second.

Duo felt so comfortable right then, and the day’s activities caught up with him. “Heero, I love you.” He mumbled and tightened his arms around him.

Heero dropped another kiss onto his cheek and whispered in his ear. “…I love you, Duo.”

“Hmmm.” Duo smiled.

“Go to sleep. You’re tired.” Heero stroked his hair.

Perfectly comfortable and content, Duo purred again and, with a smile on his lips, drifted off.

*

Heero sighed and smiled to himself as he watched the other pilot sleep. He was tired as well, but he didn’t want them to sleep on the couch. Very carefully, he moved away and stood, lifting Duo and carrying him up the stairs.

Rather than leave him in the other pilot’s room, Heero carried him into his own and gently laid him on the side of the mattress closest to a wall. He went to the window and opened it to let a night breeze into the room the way he liked. He then removed his tank top, flipping the light switch and walking to the closest side of the bed. He Unfolded his wings and climbed on.

It was only Ten, according the clock on the wall, but he felt much more tired than he usually did at that time.

The moon cast silver light into the room from the window, illuminating everything with a soft glow.

He faced Duo and saw that the other boy’s hair was on his side of him. Smiling, he reached forward and stroked it.

He had been right. It was as soft as it looked as it flowed between his fingers like water and he loved having it in his hands again.

Still stroking the silken strands, and listening to Duo’s steady breathing, he fell to sleep.

* * *

Duo’s eyes fluttered open as the very first trace of daylight entered the room.

‘This is Heero’s room.’ He thought, still half-asleep.

He saw the other pilot in front of him and smiled.

Sound asleep, on the other side of the bed, Heero was reaching out and holding Duo’s long hair in a hand.

His eyes widened as he saw something else and his mind registered a light weight on his side.

Heero’s left wing was brought forward, covering Duo’s body as it rested on him.

He took in the picture Heero made, laying half-way on his side and half-way on his front, his hand reached out in his sleep to hold Duo’s hair gently and his wing covering him, seemingly of its own accord.

Bringing a hand up carefully, he touched a few feathers on the wing and smiled to himself.

They were as soft as down.

He gently stroked along the top of it, moving towards the tip as far as he could. The feathers rustled softly against his fingers. These feathers were much smaller than the ones in the other areas, only long enough for their rounded ends to peek out from behind the other small feathers around them. They couldn’t have been longer than an inch, a contrast to the larger feathers at the bottoms and tips of the wings that reached two feet in length. All of them were soft, but these were softer than anything he had ever felt as they moved slightly with his strokes.

Heero moaned in his sleep, his hand tightening in Duo’s hair a little.

Sighing and smiling to himself, Duo carefully closed his hand over the top of the wing and let his eyes close for a moment before opening them again to watch Heero.

The winged pilot was breathing steadily, his hair falling into his eyes a little as usual, his face relaxed, with the barest hint of a smile at the corners of his lips.

‘I know exactly how he feels.’ Duo thought with a yawn.

He felt himself drift and he did not fight it. ‘I’ll see him in the morning.’ He thought as he fell back to sleep.

* * *

Heero awoke slowly.

His eyes landed on Duo and he smiled as he saw him holding his wing over himself.

‘God, I love him.’ He thought with a sigh. ‘What a strange turn of events.’ He ran his fingers through Duo’s silken hair again.

A beep went off in the room and Heero felt his blood turn to ice.

His laptop. He had a message.

He wanted so badly to ignore it, to shut down the computer and claim it was broken, or even to snap it in two with his bare hands, but he knew he could not.

Carefully removing Duo’s hand from his wing and releasing Duo’s hair, he slowly got out of the bed and walked towards his computer.

Typing his password, he read the message he had received.

He only absorbed the more important things in the message.

Hiding no longer necessary. New mission. This one in space. Leave immediately. Here are coordinates.

No mention of Duo.

He shut the computer down and looked back to Duo.

The braided pilot slept peacefully, looking more beautiful than anyone ever should.

He sighed as his heart ached. ‘I have to leave him here.’ He knew that if he woke Duo and told him he had to leave, he would be sad and have trouble letting him go. And, because of that, Heero would have trouble going. As much as he wanted a goodbye, he knew that neither of them would handle it well. ‘I can’t wake him. I have to leave him sleeping.’

Feeling like he could cry and scream at how unfair it was to have to leave right then without even a farewell, he silently gathered his things and packed them all into his duffel.

After that, hastily grabbing some clothes, he quickly went to Duo’s bathroom to shower before he left, not wanting to awake the other pilot. When he was dry and dressed save his shirt, he returned to his room to see Duo still sleeping.

Sighing, he grabbed a piece of paper out of the desk along with a pen and on it wrote the words “Have a mission in space. Love you, Duo.”. He signed an H at the bottom of the paper. ‘He knows to burn it.’ He thought as he wrote.

When he was done, he walked towards the bed and dropped a soft kiss to Duo’s hair. “I’ll see you soon.” He whispered.

Reaching behind himself, he took a hold of a feather from his left wing and tugged it, only wincing slightly as it came free. He brought it forward and looked at it.

It was twenty centimeters long, perfectly formed and perfectly white, not a flaw to be had.

‘It’ll make him smile.’ He thought longingly. ‘Even if I can’t see it, I want him to smile.’

He placed the paper on his pillow, knowing Duo would see it later when he awoke to find him gone, and laid the feather on top of it.

Looking up, he felt tears form in his eyes as he gazed at the slumbering pilot.

Knowing that the longer he stayed, the harder it would be to leave, he leaned forward and kissed Duo softly on the cheek. “Ja ne.” He whispered quietly. He couldn’t bring himself to say “sayonara”. It implied too much. Gazing at him for a moment, he Folded his wings slowly and pulled on his shirt.

Then, as silently as he could, and with a breaking heart, he lifted his duffel over his shoulder and walked out of the room, leaving the house for the hangar to get in his Gundam and head for space.

*

Duo awoke at the sound of a loud jet engine outside. His eyes caught something on Heero’s pillow, but he paid it little heed and jumped out of bed to run down the stairs and out of the house.

Outside of the house, the sun shone brightly as the coastal breeze made the grass sway in waves.

Wing was barely visible by the time he was outside, just a dot in the sky, a gleaming white speck in a sea of blue.

Duo ran, still half-asleep, towards where Wing was, even as its jets grew quieter and quieter.

“HEERO!!!” He yelled as tears came to his eyes as he watched the person he loved fly away.

Nothing happened. Heero had no way of hearing him.

‘Where is he going? Why didn’t he tell me he was leaving?’ He wondered. The fact that Heero could leave him so suddenly made his heart ache.

He watched until the small speck Wing had become high in the sky disappeared, the sound of Wing’s jets vanishing, and he sprinted back into the house.

He ran up to Heero’s room, taking the stairs two at a time, and went for the thing he had seen on Heero’s pillow.

A note. And a feather.

Duo picked up both of them. He stared at the feather for a second before reading the short note written in Heero’s handwriting.

He closed his eyes and his head fell back as tears spilled onto his cheeks. “Heero...”

He walked to the window and looked out at the sky.

It was one of the clearest and most amazing blues he had ever seen, second only to the cobalt of Heero’s eyes, and it made him long for Heero even more.

‘He didn’t tell me that he was going because he didn’t want to have to say goodbye.’ Sighing, he looked down to the note and smiled wryly. ‘We are soldiers...’ He remembered Heero’s words. ‘Of course this would happen. We’ll still have missions. We’ll still be in danger.’ His eyes shifted to the feather.

‘But we will always have each other. And that will never change.’ He held the feather over his heart as he gazed out the window.

He knew he would see Heero again. The other pilot could not go anywhere until the war was over and won. And they were not winning. There was plenty of time to find him.

“Heero...” He said to the sky on the other side of the glass. “I will meet you again out there in space and I will follow you where ever you go. I will not rest until we are together. The way we are meant to be.”

He stroked the feather and smiled as he wiped away his last tear. Bringing the feather to his lips, he kissed it softly before placing it in his shirt over his heart.

Where it would stay until he saw Heero again.

THE END

____________________________

Yes, you read right, that says “THE END”. Sorry if it was not what you were expecting. ^_^ Just think of the end of the show as a sort of continuation. Although I do have a plan for a sequel, I’m not sure that I will do it. While I think that it will be a VERY fun project, I’m not sure that it is a good idea. Any opinion of your own? Oh, please. I know you have one, so just let me know what you think should be done. I’m leaving this up to the readers.

Well, until I get time to write more fics, see ya! ^_^ V
