"Birds Of A Feather"

Disclaimer: I WISH I was making money off this. And I wish I owned the characters. But, sadly, they're just my playthings and other people who are richer and happier than I can claim otherwise.

Rating: R

Warnings: TWT, shounen ai, sap, fluff, occaisional silliness, humor, angst, blood, violence, language, kinda super natural.

Archive: Steal it or any parts of it and I WILL kill you. I’m not kidding, I’ve seen me do it

Pairings: 1x2

Authors Notes: It's Super Natural in a really wierd way(that isn't even a good way to describe it), *NOT* SCI-FI, *NOT* DARK in the least, and it's something that I'm sure many of us have thought of at one time or another but I've never read anything about it so I'm changing that. Hmph.

I hope you like it. ^_^

Spoilers: Yeah, a few. Unfortunately, they are from several episodes from all over the the series(including the Episode Zero manga) so listing them all would be pointless. And they are things that I think everyone knows already. But, to cover my own ass, if you have not seen the show, don't read. Also, why would you be here? 0_o

Feedback: I will love you forever if you let me know what you think. Good comments adored, CC welcomed, flames laughed at.

THANKS TO... KOHAKU!!! (glomps!), who helped me work out a few things with the fic. You rock!

Eh. ^_^’ Sorry for the delay in posting these chapters. I hope that those who did not give up all hope of ever seeing them enjoy them. (sheepish smile)

CHAPTER 11:

Duo walked down the stairs, thinking to himself.

Quatre had been tired so he had settled himself in the third bedroom to nap for an hour or two and take a real shower before he had to leave again.

Duo sighed. While he didn’t dread being alone with Heero so much anymore, the other pilot was still avoiding talking to him whenever possible. All he wanted to do was talk to someone, and Quatre was there now and he was sleeping. ‘He deserves a nap. I’m acting like a baby.’

He reached the floor just as the front door opened.

Heero stepped in and his eyes landed on Duo and he froze completely.

Worried, Duo looked back at him with wide eyes. “Heero? Is something wrong?”

It seemed like it took the other pilot a moment to understand him, but then he blinked and closed the door, shaking his head. He made for the stairs and Duo was about to step to the side to give Heero the space he always seemed to want when he saw that Heero’s hand was dripping blood to the floor.

“Heero, you’re bleeding.” He grabbed his hand as Heero tried to walk by and examined it.

The other pilot’s knuckles were bruised and bloody.

Heero quickly pulled his hand away with wide eyes as if Duo’s touch had burned him somehow.

Duo gaped at him and ignored his feelings of hurt at Heero’s reaction. “Could you kindly TRY to go twenty-four hours without injuring yourself? I would really appreciate it. What did you do, punch your Gundam?”

Heero just stared at him and Duo sighed.

“Fine. I don’t have to know what you did, but let’s get it cleaned and wrapped.” He went to grab Heero’s other hand, but Heero moved it away too quickly.

Duo frowned. It wasn’t like he had expected Heero to let himself be fussed over, but something was different about him.

Heero was still staring into his eyes intensely, as if Duo knew the secret to world happiness.

Becoming a little nervous, Duo stared back. “Heero...? Is something the matter?”

Heero’s eyes wandered away from him and he looked like he was thinking something over, but then he looked down and gazed at his hand. He was obviously dazed for some reason, but Duo couldn’t figure out why.

At last, Heero cleared his throat and raised his eyes to Duo’s. “...I hurt it. It’s okay, though.”

Duo blinked. “Okay, well let’s wash it and bandage it so it doesn’t drip on the floor anymore.” He said patiently as if he was talking to a child and he held out his hand to the other boy. “Okay?”

Heero stared at Duo’s hand for a long moment before looking into his eyes for a few seconds, and Duo could see emotions flash behind them before they looked away. “I can do it.”

‘Whatever he has on his mind is big.’ Duo looked back to his injured hand. “I don’t mind. It’ll be easier if I do it.”

Heero looked down and seemed to notice the blood that was dripping to the floor for the first time. Looking back up, he hesitated before nodding ever so slightly.

Duo smiled a little and stepped back into the kitchen, gesturing for Heero to follow him.

Heero seemed to hesitate for a second, as if he wasn’t sure it was a good idea, but then followed Duo into the kitchen.

Duo backed himself up to the sink, watching Heero with a smile to make him comfortable with letting him so close.

When Heero was only a few feet away, he stopped and Duo reached out and took his hand.

Gently pulling him closer, Duo smiled as reassuringly as possible and brought the other pilot’s hand into the sink, turning on the water and setting it to be warm. He held it under the water, watching as the blood ran off it down the drain. “This will only take a minute.” He said as he made sure the water cleansed all the wounds on the knuckles.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Heero watching him with an _expression he didn’t recognize as he stood as far away as he could from him.

When the wounds were cleaned, he grabbed a paper towel and pressed it to Heero’s hand carefully, drying it, but not rubbing it. He looked up to Heero’s eyes and saw him still gazing at him. Feeling a little nervous, he cleared his throat. “Heero... Is everything okay?”

Heero looked away, his gaze landing on the floor where it stayed. “Hai.”

Duo felt like yelling at him for lying to him, but knew that it wouldn’t do any good to push Heero away, so he sighed instead. He took the paper towel away and examined the wounds.

They had stopped bleeding so much, but were still open.

He sighed again and reached over and opened the medical cabinet, taking out some bandaging supplies. He opened a gauze a placed it over Heero’s knuckles. “You know, if you keep hurting yourself while I’m around, you’re going to end up looking like a mummy.” He said as he bit the side of the tape to help tear it with one hand, his other hand still holding Heero’s. He carefully wrapped the length of white, cloth tape around Heero’s hand and made sure it was going to stay where it was before looking back up to the other pilot.

Heero was gazing at the white bandage around his hand with something that looked like a mild form of amazement.

Duo shook his head as he looked at him. “Heero, please tell me what’s wrong.”

Heero’s eyes returned to his and he spoke. “Nandemonai.”

Shaking his head again, Duo held his hand gently in both of his. “Please. Something is wrong and you are starting to scare me. Is it your head? Are you disoriented or something?”

“No.” He began to walk away, but Duo held his wrist in one hand and his hand in the other, not letting him leave. Heero looked back to him and they stayed that way for a long moment, just staring into each other’s eyes.

In Heero’s eyes, Duo saw a wealth of emotion the other pilot had never let him see before. And it was so intense, the feeling there. A feeling for HIM.

Duo felt it. He FELT it. As if it had hit him. And it was so heavy, that it was crushing.

At that moment, Quatre walked into the kitchen and saw them standing there, Duo holding Heero’s hand, and smiled. “Is this a bad time?”

Heero scowled only slightly, the feeling leaving his eyes, and shook Duo’s hands off of his own as he headed around the wall to go up the stairs.

Glaring at the ceiling, Duo growled silently in frustration before turning his eyes to Quatre. “Great, Q. Perfect timing.”

Quatre looked upset. “I’m sorry. I just wanted to let you know that I’m leaving now. I just got a message and I have to go. Sandrock got done early.”

Duo’s eyes widened. “Oh.” He stepped forward and hugged the shorter pilot. “Okay. Sorry for snapping at you. So much for a nap, huh?”

Hugging him back, Quatre patted his shoulder. “Forget it.” He stepped back. “All my things are still packed and a car is going to meet me in town, so I’m going to head out now.”

Duo felt a little torn. “Okay. ...Hey, be careful, okay?” He put a hand on the blonde’s shoulder.

Quatre smiled sweetly to him. “I will. Don’t worry, I’ll see you not too long from now. I promise.”

Duo grinned. “I’ll hold you to that.”

“Please do.” Quatre returned. He walked out of the kitchen.

Duo followed him and saw that he had already brought his duffel downstairs.

The blonde lifted it and headed to the door. He turned to smile at Duo for a moment. “I think that you and Heero have some talking to do.”

Blinking, Duo raised a brow. “Huh?”

“Just be patient with him. He’s not used to having feelings for others. Neither of you are.” He smiled wryly. “Don’t let him push you away. He’ll try. But you have to make him fail. If you don’t, you two will never be happy.” He said as he opened the door and stepped out.

Duo was puzzled but said nothing.

Quatre paused before closing the door. He looked back to him. “I think you have to listen to yourself, Duo. I think that’s all you have to do.” He waved with the hand that held the duffel strap over his shoulder. “I will see you soon. Take care.” And then he shut the door.

Duo stared at it. “That guy LOVES to confuse me.” He muttered to himself as he went to get a wet paper towel to clean the blood off the floor as Heero had obviously been too preoccupied to remember. “What was THAT all about?”

“Short,” you say? “Pointless”? Well… Yes. On both accounts. Or is it…? Yes, it is. ~_~’

Heh. Poor Quatre. It’s interesting that the most innocent, sweet guy in the whole show is made the nosey, meddling, match-maker in so many fics. ^_^’

Anyway, the next chapter is like a fireworks display, so it makes up for the lameness that is this one. Go read it. See what I mean. Unless you got something against fireworks. ^_~
