who he is. "By the Red Moon" Prologue
Then, the person nearing whispered, "Heero. Heero,
wake up." Recognizing his mentor's voice, the young rider's cobalt
eyes snapped open. Quickly sitting up, he was surprised to find the tall
man standing before him with a baby wrapped in a white blanket, sleeping
in a strong arm while the other carried a glowing lantern. The grave
expression on his teacher's face and the jagged tears in his red tunic
that revealed bleeding cuts beneath was enough to make it known that
something was very wrong in the world. Heero was on his feet and brushing the straw from his
deep blue tunic and high brown boots that nearly covered his black
pants. Frowning as he looked from the child's face and up again, he
asked urgently, "Odin
is it
?" Behind him, he
could hear the shifting of Wing in his closed off stall. Nodding when his charge could not go on, the knight
answered solemnly, "The attack has come. It is just as the prophecy
foretold. I was there, in the castle, when it came. I have been riding
as hard as I could on Peacemillion." The baby in his arm cooed
in his sleep and sighed. Biting his lip, Heero gazed on the little one and breathed,
"The prince..." His mentor took a deep breath and answered, "Yes.
The king and queen entrusted me with him just before the castle walls
fell to the attack. I did what I could to help, but I had to look
after the child. Fortunately, I had packed away enough supplies for
him for his journey to the portal before the strike." And that only meant one thing for Heero, he was all
too aware. The prince would need to be carried out of their realm
as quickly as possible for his protection. If the castle of the Sanq
Kingdom, only a few days of travel away was falling, it would only
be a matter of time before the aggressors reached the outskirts where
he and the other knights in training lived. Taking a deep breath, the young man nodded firmly, "Wing
and I will be off, then with him, then." With a proud grin tugging the side of his mouth, Odin
appraised his best pupil. He knew he the seers had done the right
thing by choosing the boy for this dangerous mission. Carefully slipping the baby into Heero's arms, the tall
man informed, "I will go get the supplies from Peacemillion and
alert the squires to assist you in saddling Wing." That said,
he turned on his heels and ran through the stable's opened doors. Supporting the babe in both of his arms, the young rider
watched as violet eyes blinked tiredly up at him. "Don't worry,
Prince Duo," he said softly. "I promise that no harm will
come to you so long as I am alive."
