Lovers" Chapter 5
"Lord Heero had just fallen into a light sleep when the commotion just outside the door stirred him fully awake. He tossed aside his covers, seized his robe, and walked over to the large wooden door. He listened intently to the voice beyond for a moment before opening the door a crack. "I can not allow you to pass." One guard spoke firmly. "But the prince waits for me." Duo informed calmly; all the while trying to ignore the tickling sensation of Sally clinging to his back. "We can not let you pass. The prince is not yet awake." "We received no orders that you were summoned." "That is explained by the prince asking me last night to return in the morning." Lord Heero could see the urgency in his friend's eyes, and wondered what had caused it. "Begone jester, and return when you are summoned." The door was opened completely to reveal lord Heero. "What is the meaning of this?" "My lord, we apologize for waking you." "Aside, the queen related that the jester shall not pass without as such." "Any time the jester shows himself to my door, allow him in. If my mother speaks different, tell her to seek me." With that, he motioned for Duo to enter. As the braided boy obeyed, he stuck his tongue at either of the guards. "Master Treize." Wu Fei called as he stood before his sleeping teacher. The older man sat up and beheld his pupil and dragon friend. "Wu Fei, did the king not scold you enough? Now what have you wronged?" "Master Treize, I have done nothing this time. . .but I need a favor of you." The wizard rubbed his eyes and looked closely at his student. He could hear the urgency and so began to dress. "Tell me, what has happen?" "It is the young prince." Treize stopped in his tracks at these words. "Lord Heero has seen the royal lover again. . .only this time, he has seen more." "What has he seen?" "He has witness the royal lover serving the King of Sanc." "Does our king know of this?" Treize ventured and Wu Fei bowed his head. "He does not." "Then inform him." "I can not." "If the king is told, then the royal lover will be killed. I do not wish to bring about his fate any sooner than necessary." "Without the king's permission, I can not do anything." "Please master Treize." "Wu Fei, I have told you the day you became my apprentice that you should distance yourself to the royal lover." "Do not it for him, but for the prince." "I can not unless the king is aware." "Master Treize, no one knows of the incident yet. If it somehow returns to the king, then I will take full blame and punishment." The stronger wizard stared into the pleading coal eyes. "If not for the royal lover, if not for the prince, then perform this one spell for me." Wu Fei extended the scroll to the man. Several minutes later, they appeared into the prince's chamber. "What is the meaning of this?" The prince questioned at the arrival. "My lord, I have arrived to aid you." Treize answered truthfully. "The king fears that you have fallen ill and request my advice." "I am well. Now leave." "My prince, please permit me to check your state for the king does worry. You have missed a whole day's worth of meals and then one." The prince sighed and sat on the bed. "Very well." "Thank you my lord." Duo and Wu Fei watched eagerly as the true wizard lightly placed his hand across the prince's forehead. A moment later, the colbat eyes became heavy and lord Heero fell lightly against the pillows. "What did you do to him?" Duo wondered as
Treize placed the prince properly in his bed. "I thought. . ."
"Come Wu Fei, we must take leave." "What should I do?" Duo wondered as the older man stood next to his apprentice. "Inform the guards that the prince has fallen asleep." "Will he be fine?" "Once he wakes, he will remember nothing of last
night and now." With that said, the wizards vanished. Duo looked into the sleeping face, wondering just how much of last night was taken from him. It must be horrible to have memories taken from someone just because of their title. Duo could only hope that not everything of last night had been taken. . .at least, not their conversation before he heard the noise. The sun was bright, and the birds were singing their normally happy song. Though he knew he should have stayed with the trainer, the prince wondered further into the woods, with intentions of exploring it. At first everything was exciting, and a lot better than the usual palace walls, but after awhile, even the woods became boring to him. Just as he started to turn to find his teacher, something caught his attention. It was a familiar sound. . .the sound of someone crying. The prince forgot about the instructor and followed the soft weeping through the woods. The crying was closer, as it was getting louder. The trees parted to reveal a small child sitting under a tree. Though the prince couldn't see the face, he knew it to be a boy. His back was leaning against the trunk; his face buried in the depths of his hugged knees. Lord Heero dismounted his horse as he walked over to the child and kneeled. "What has come to pass?. . .why do you shed so many tears of sorrow?" At the sound of the soft tone, the crying slowed and the little boy begin to raise his head to meet eye to eye with the prince. "Lord Heero, you should have been awake hours ago." The queen's voice sliced through the dream. "Do you feel well my son? Perhaps I should call for the wizard or the physician. It is not like you to sleep at such a late hour." "I am fine mother." The prince assured and pushed the blankets from him. "Then it is all that damn fool's fault. He had no right to keep you at such hours." "He did not keep me." The prince informed
as he allowed the maid servants to begin their daily routine of bathing
and dressing him. "If anything I kept him." "I know of this." "Then why do you not practice it?" "Will you continue to question me after I become king and my word will be law?" "Such tongue. With your attitude, you will be one of the worse kings." "Then I shall be known as Heero the Horrible." The look in his mother's eyes were nothing short of shock, and the prince smirked to himself at the reaction. "I will continue to see the jester as I please." As he said this, he tried to remember how late the jester had stayed with him last night. He found that he could remember calling for him, but nothing after that. How can someone lose an entire evening without being drunk? "If it is companionship you seek, why not turn to princess Relena? She is more than grateful to spend time with you." "The only people in the palace that is glad for her presence are you and father. So why do you not seek her companionship?" "Lady Relena is to be your queen my prince. Perhaps it would do for you to show her respect." "As father shows you?" Duo slightly pushed open the door only but a crack. It was enough to give him a perfect view of lord Heero. The prince had arrived for breakfast, but appeared to not be eating any. He sat in his seat between his father and princess Relena. The queen was staring intently into her son's downcast face with concern as the room was filled of talk of memories between the two kings. "My prince, are you feeling ill?" The queen asked when the conversation met with a break. "You do seem pale my lord." Princess Relena observed as she tried to cup her betrothal hand. "I am well." Lord Heero assured and pulled his hand to avoid contact. "Are you sure my son?" The king was now concerned for the young heir's health. "I said I am well, so that means I am well." All the attention was starting to make the prince uneasy. "Perchance, he is suffering from post wedding fright." The Sanc King laughed heartedly, as did the prince's father. "Anyone lucky to wed such a princess would be mad to not have them." The two kings bellowed with laughter and the prince stood. "My son, sit, eat. You will need your strength for the wedding to come." "Hunger has eluded me father. I will return to my studies." "Then go my son, study, and fill your mind with wisdom and you will be a grand king. . .fair and just as I am." The king raised his glass to the prince, and lord Heero found himself wondering just how just his father truly was. "Lord Heero." Princess Relena called. "I will come with you to keep your company if it pleases you." She smiled warmly and the prince glared at her. "I do not require your presence." "Lord Heero, do not speak as such to your bride." "It is fine father." "Lord Heero." His father was all the warning needed. "Join me in the library my lady?" He hesitantly extended his hand and the princess accepted. "Thank you my lord." Disgust rose in the jester as the pair left his view. He would have returned to his own meal, if the next bit of conversation did not seize his attention. "Your son lacks discipline." "He is still young and one of few things he needs work on." The king answered nonchalantly. "And not fully of his fault." The queen added, catching the attention of both royal men. "How so is that my wife?" "He spends many hours with the fool. I fear that he has become attached." "Is it wise to make such a hasty decision?" The Sanc king questioned. "My daughter and Dorothy have been wonderful friends for many, many years. Perhaps it does him good to befriend a servant." "Had it been any other servant, would have been debatable. You come from another land and do not fully understand." The queen explained quickly. "The jester is of queer nature. His intentions are not always clear or of pure heart." "Just the other day, lord Heero allowed the jester to touch him, and then stood for him; knowing that such is forbidden." Serenity spoke, still appalled that her father has done nothing of the incident. "The day before, he dismissed the royal horse trainer to ride alone in the woods." The queen added. "And the pass two nights, the jester was in his chamber at odd hours. I feel this fool has much to do with the prince's recent behavior and lack of appetite. It is uncertain what went on inside the bed room, for the guards were commanded to wait outside." The king thought of this as he chewed his food. "Summoner." "Yes your majesty?" "Bring the fool to the throne room after breakfast." "Yes your majesty." "Worry not my queen. I will handle the jester." Duo chewed his bottom lip as the king turned his attention to his guest. "Did you find the royal lover to your liking?" He questioned as if he was speaking of the meal instead of a person. "I have not had such a wonderful night since the lost of my queen two years prior. It is a shame that such a servant will be discarded. I have seen his wounds, is he very disobedient?" "When his training was complete, I had but to punish him twice in ten years." "He knows his job well, it is often difficult to keep such royal lovers fast to their role. I will fully enjoy him for the rest of my stay." "My lord, would you disagree if he were to stay with you only at night? Aside from princess Relena's training, we need him to start training the new lover as well." "Duo." The jester jumped at the sound of the storyteller's voice. "Whatever are you doing by spying on the royal family? You are aware that such acts will cost you your eyes." Duo quickly closed the door so that their conversation could not be heard, and he would not be caught. "I was just checking on the prince. . .some say that he has fallen ill." "You are not a doctor nor a wizard. Checking on him will only lead to your downfall. Do you truly believe that the prince would show such concern toward you when he shows hatred toward his wife when she had done nothing toward him?" "Quatre, why are you angered at me? I can not stand to look into your eyes and see such feelings. We have been friends, if not brothers since we can remember. Why do you resent me so? I do as I must, as you do as you must." "It is because you lust for the prince." Both Duo and Quatre turned to find Dorothy pouring food on a tray. "A meaningless lust you have for the prince, who could never desire the love of a fool." "I need no such desire. Friendship is all I wish for." "Stop bearing false statements. You long to be at his side even if he has no interest in your being. Is that not how your childhood was? The servant children played among themselves. When they accidentally come before a prince or princess, they are shun. . .as they grow older, they seek your friendship to merely tear from the king and queen." Both boys remained silent, for Dorothy's words held true. "Just as I expected. . .I must go now to feed the royal lover. He must regain his strength." She looked over at Quatre and smiled. "Perhaps I should take him a ice pack as well. I am sure that there are a couple of places that would require one this morning. After all, my lord has not lay with a royal lover of the male gender in. . .six years. . .and he does so love the young boys. . .especially ones with a face as his liking." She took a few steps before stopping. "Perhaps, I should fetch the royal physician instead." Tears burned Quatre's eyes as he watched her leave. "Do not listen to her Quatre. She only desires to upset you." "Just as her words of Trowa's death?" Quatre
retorted and stormed from his friend. to be continued * * * * * * * * * * * * * * |
