Lovers" Chapter 10 "Have you gone mad fool?" Wu Fei questioned and glared at the spot that Duo was standing. Just so he would know, Sally was perched on the invisible servant's shoulder. "You have already endangered this plan. I will not chance any more." "But Wu Fei, if you would just hear me out." "I will not. You have said enough." With a snap of his fingers, Duo's voice vanished. "Listen well fool, I have warned you from the start that you should distant yourself from the prince. You did not listen, and now you wish to place the safety of so many on a plan that will more likely than not work? Trowa is my friend as much as he is yours, but as I can see, there is no way for me to help him. Your plan will not only place him in graver danger, but all that you seek to pull into it. I will not tolerate that." Duo attempted to argue, but nothing emerged from his opened mouth. Wu Fei seemed deep in thought for a moment. "However. . .if a few changes were made. . .it may work." "Wu Fei, you can not possibly expect to do all that on your own. You are only a hand wizard. You can not cast so many spells at once. You will surely exhaust yourself again. Then how will you explain that to Treize?" Wu Fei turned around and looked in Duo's direction. "Sally, make sure that Trowa is willing to go through with this plan." With that, he snapped his fingers to return the voice. "Do that never again." The braided boy warned. "Duo, perhaps I was hasty in keeping you from the
prince. Continue to do as you were. . .in fact, visit him tonight
and find if he wishes for company." "Indeed. However, this time, I require the opposite of time." "I do not understand." "Sally, come here. I will relate to you what to tell Trowa." The small dragon hesitated for only a moment before flying over to her friend. Trowa woke up as he felt the familiar talons against his shoulder. He slowly opened his eyes to find Sally sitting on him, looking down. There was a seriousness in her dragon eyes that caused the servant to worry. He sat up straight and placed the small dragon in his hand. "What has happen?" He asked in a soft whispered so not to wake the king. "Wu Fei has devised a plan that would not only
save the child to replace you, but yourself, and allow you a chance
to speak with the prince." Trowa stared at Sally, not fully believing
what was being said. "Do you wish for him to carry it out?" "His alone." "Then I do not." "Trowa, he guarantees that the plan will work. Do you not want to see the prince face to face? After spending the pass ten years in the shadows, do you not want to see him without fear? The king will never learn of this. Wu Fei swears it. . .and you are aware of how well he supports his words." "What is the plan?" "Wu Fei will come in here and free you from the shackle. He then will create an illusion of you to take your place. You, in the mean time, will leap to the prince's balcony where he is awaiting you." "What?" "Duo has been made invisible to escape the king's wrath. He has been secretly seeing the prince every night and has told Lord Heero of your existence. The prince is now wanting to speak with you." "What if the Sanc king wakes while I am gone? Surely Wu Fei's illusions are not strong enough to convince him." "They are not, however, he will stand guard at the balcony. If the king wakes, he will freeze him, and retrieve you. Once you return, he will dispel the illusion and unfreeze the king. No one will ever be the wiser of what is truly going on." "What if lord Heero's father comes in search of me?" "I will be at the door. If I hear anything, I will inform Wu Fei." There was still doubt lingering in Trowa's mind. He didn't want to be the cause of Wu Fei's death. "Trowa, this may be your only chance. . .it may be wise to take his kind offer." "Fetch Wu Fei." He barely managed and Sally flew over to the balcony. He watched her crawl under the doors and wondered if he had made the right decision. A moment later, the apprentice appeared in the room. He kneeled before Trowa and grasp the shackle in both hands. With barely an effort, it unlocked. He closed his eyes for a moment and conjured an image of Trowa in his mind. When he opened them and waved his hand, a exact replica was sitting cross legged next to the original. Sally was impressed as she climbed from Wu Fei's shoulder and headed for the large wooden door. The image was exactly like Trowa from head to toe; and complete. As the real Trowa stood, Wu Fei placed the shackle around the fake one's neck. The wizard in training then stood and snapped his fingers. The result was Trowa now being dressed in his tunic. The Latin followed the apprentice to the balcony doors. Looking back at the image of himself, a bad feeling washed over the lover. Though he trusted his friend, something was still pulling at the back of his mind that this would go horribly wrong. "Are you ready?" Wu Fei whispered as they stood outside the glass doors. "Are you sure that this is a good ideal Wu Fei?" "There is not a single doubt in my mind. The prince is waiting for you. Go forth and meet with him." Inhaling deeply, Trowa climbed onto the balcony ledge and leapt over to the prince's balcony. He swallowed hard as he entered the open door. Lord Heero was sitting on his bed, staring at the servant as he stepped inside. The prince was even more beautiful up close than Trowa could have ever imagine. Not fully knowing why, he closed his eyes and kneeled before the prince. He could feel his heart pounding nearly out of his chest in a mixture of fear and uncertainty. The prince slid off his bed and kneeled in front of Trowa. He cupped the downcast face and brought it to meet his. "You do not have to do this Trowa." Lord Heero spoke softly. "I did not request your presence as a servant." After ten long years of being forbidden to gaze at the prince, the lover was finding it difficult to opened his eyes; though more than anything, he wanted to stare deeply into the serious colbats like he had in the woods. "You may cast your eyes upon me." Trowa slowly opened his eyes at the prince's request. The blue eyes before him had not changed since the last time he had seen them. They still were righteous and kind. "I know my father has wronged you. I promise I will make amends when I am king. . .but before I can. I need to know what he has done to you and what I can do to correct it." Though Duo had promised that he would step onto the balcony to give the two privacy, he remained in the room. His curiosity would not allow anything else. Wu Fei sat cross legged on the balcony floor. His eyes rested on the Sanc king. The heavy set man was snoring so loudly that Wu Fei could easily hear him from the balcony. Suddenly, the man sat up straight in his bed. The apprentice jumped to his feet, waiting for the moment to be right. The king coughed a couple of times, and Wu Fei had the illusion to look up, just so that the presence of Trowa could be noted. With that, the king laid back down. Once he was fully asleep, Wu Fei sat down as well. He could feel himself getting weaker. He nearly exhausted himself earlier in the day during his lessons. To add to that, Princess Serenity requested amusement while Treize was with the king, leaving Wu Fei to lose even more power. It was going to take a lot to freeze the scene if he had to. . .and if he did, he was unsure if he had enough left in him to unfreeze it afterwords. He looked up at the eastern sky to find that the sun was starting to rise. Trowa had been in the prince's room for several hours now; and he silently prayed for the servant to return soon. It wouldn't be long before the palace would wake. Upon thinking of this, he noticed that the cooks were already emerging from the tower on their way to the kitchen. "He has yet to return?" Sally asked softly as she appeared from under the door. "No. Go and see if he is all right." Nodding, she climbed up the palace wall and toward the open doors. As she entered the room, she was shocked to find Trowa laying on the prince's bed. Lord Heero was on top of him, kissing him deeply. Sally looked around the room, wondering where Duo was. . .but the braided boy was no where in sight. The small dragon flew over to the bed and landed on the pillow next to Trowa's head. "Trowa." She hissed and the two boys pulled apart. Lord Heero stared at the dragon in shocked awe. "Trowa, you must return. It will not be long before the king wakes." The surprised colbats turned toward the servant. "You know this talking dragon?" "I do." The prince slid off the lean frame and sat at the foot of the bed. "I am sorry my lord." "If you must go, then you must. I do not wish harm to you." Trowa pushed from the bed, before he left, the prince seized one last kiss. In a matter of seconds, the lover was gone and back on the balcony of the king. Sally sought to follow him, but the prince grabbed her tail while she was in mid flight. "Where did you come from?" Sally attempted to get away, but he held her too tightly. Wu Fei stood up to welcome his friend back. "Thank you Wu Fei." Trowa whispered and stared into the kind coal eyes. The apprentice nodded before letting them back into the room. They moved silently to the image that was still sitting in its spot. As Trowa stared at the illusion of himself, he remembered who he was and what he had truly done. Though tasting the lips of the prince was the only desire he had ever had, he wished he hadn't, for as his lips were with the prince. . .his mind had been with the storyteller. Wu Fei kneeled before his creation, and like before, the shackle gave way under his grip. He replaced it on Trowa's neck and it clasp shut again. He stood back and snapped his fingers; the tunic disappeared. A short wave of his hand sent the fake Trowa back where it had come from. Just as the apprentice started to leave, a flash of images stopped him in his tracks. Trowa looked over at his friend, a little surprised to find that he was only standing there. The Chinese boy's face pale as his eyes widen in fear, and Trowa worried for his friend. He stood and walked over to him. Placing his arm around the other's shoulder, he stared at the downcast face. "Are you well Wu Fei?" The apprentice, couldn't find his voice. In truth, he didn't even hear his friend. He was too lost in the visions flashing before his eyes. "Behold, the purity of this land continues." The king bellowed as he stood. "Prepare yourself to enter a age of peace and prosperity." The crowd cheered and praised the king. The platform was set to burn someone at the stake. The crowd parted and two guards escorted Trowa toward the platform. "Witness the dawning of a new king, and the beginning of a new age." The lover was tied to the stake and the next moment, flames engulfed the body. "Wu Fei. . .Wu Fei, what is wrong?" Trowa's voice sliced through his own screams, and the Chinese boy looked up at him. How could he tell his friend the vision he just had? "Wu Fei?" "I am well." The apprentice assured. Even with his plan, the servant was doomed. At that moment, Sally appeared under the door. "Wu Fei, the king. . ." Before she could finish her sentence, the door to the chamber opened, and anger befell the features of the king. Trowa quickly pulled from his friend, knowing that the king had witness them touching, but not wanting to worsen the rage. "Guards!" The king bellowed, waking his guest from his slumber. He too seemed surprised to find the apprentice in his room. "Seize the apprentice!" The king ordered and in an instant, either of Wu Fei's arms were grabbed. "What has happen?" Lord Heero's voice could be heard from the hall. "My son, return to your chamber. There is nothing to be seen." With that, the king closed the door to the king of Sanc's room and stepped deeper inside. "Apprentice, you have erred for the final time. I will not tolerate your treason. When the sun reaches the top of the sky, you will lose your head." Wu Fei closed his eyes and bowed his head. "Take him to the dungeon." Trowa watched as the Chinese boy was dragged toward the door. "My lord, have mercy." He started, but was slapped harshly. "You were not given permission to speak." "Spare the apprentice, I beg of you. . .spare him and I. . .and I will train the child to my ways." The king stared at the lover a moment. "You dare make a statement with only four days
before the crown sits on the prince's head." "Very well." The king looked back at the guards. "Take him to the dungeon and serve 30 lashes. Then return him to his chamber." Wu Fei felt sick to his stomach. His plan was going as he had hoped, but unfortunately, the outcome was not as expected. Trowa was still to die. to be continued |
