"Everywhere I Look " 24 Sally Po’s eyes widened in alarm when she entered
her patient’s room. Heero was gone, and his oxygen tent was torn
away from the bed frame. She whirled around when a voice behind her
spoke. “You’re just the person I need to see.”
In the chair by the window sat Heero Yuy with the laptop she procured
for him on the overbed table in front of him. He was leaning back
in the chair wearing only his hospital gown and a wide grin. “What are you doing out of —” “I’m obviously fine, Dr. Po. I escaped from
your plastic prison more than half an hour ago and haven’t felt
any weakness. No shortness of breath, no dizziness. I feel great.”
After a pause, Heero said in a firm but gentle voice, “Discharge
me.” Po blinked. “I can’t do that without —” “If you want to do a final exam, then fine. But
no more than that.” Po closed her mouth and pressed her lips together. She
studied the stern look of confidence in her patient’s eyes. “I
see.” She drew a big breath. “Well, I suppose —” “Great,” said Heero. “Let’s get started.” |
