"Everywhere I Look " Chapter 15 So, the hospital thing. It just about knocked me out when he told me about it, but he acts like it's not that big a deal. Hell yes, I was upset. But you can't argue with him on that point--or at least I couldn't, not with him sitting in front of me wearing the biggest, sloppiest grin. You bet there was more than the physical part, a hell of a lot more. If you don't know about it, as well connected as you are, then Heero's done an excellent job of keeping things under wraps. And that's good, very good. He's got plans for what to do about it, and -- Geez, Quatre. You really are a stereotypical drama queen, you know? I'm trying to tell you. Just untwist your panties and sit still. It takes more than a couple of sentences to explain. Well, it's -- let's just say it's complicated, okay? And by the way, it's important for you to hear this, because I think Heero wants you to be a part of the solution. Here's the thing: Hyperoxia -- that's the medical term for overdosing on oxygen -- is rare, really, really rare. So rare that -- Okay, then. If you've been to oxygen bars, then you probably know pure oxy is still used by athletes to boost performance as well as for recreation. Kind of like a drug with no bad side effects. But Heero passed out from it. And you know why? Here's the bombshell: Heero overdosed on oxygen to the point that it knocked him out and even threatened to cause some cellular damage because the higher-ups in the military deliberately thinned the air the Phobos mission team is breathing. |
