Author’s Notes: You know those dreams that you keep dreaming over and over again for weeks? The ones that don’t go away until you write them down? Yeah, that’s exactly what happened. I passed the idea by one of my betas, to see if it was worth putting on paper. Her response was “Write it. NOW.” So I wrote it. The rest is…ah, what follows after my insane notes.
Just as a warning, this thing will be LARGE. Schedule in time to read it.

Feedback is my diet…and I’m getting pretty lean so send me something to munch on, okay?

Flames will result in me tormenting you for your inability to read warnings. And I’m good at tormenting. Just ask the boys.

"Standing Outside the Fire"

Chapter Eighteen: Home of the Heart

The real distinction is between those who adapt their purposes to reality and those who seek to mold reality in the light of their purposes.
Henry Kissinger (1923 - )

“I’m sorry,” Jamie apologized politely to the elderly Chinese woman sitting next to her on the swing on her front porch. “I just can’t hear out of my left eye like I used to. Can you repeat that?”

“I want Wufei to live here.”

“Maybe my hearing isn’t 20/20 either.” Jamie was sure that her eyes were bugging out of her head. This had come up on her out of the blue, and she wasn’t quite sure how to respond. “I’m going to ask a really stupid question. Why?”

Long An smiled at her, seeming to take pity on her obvious confusion. “Wufei is rarely at home anymore. And even when he is, it is obvious to us that he longs to be somewhere else. I think I know where. Since we barely see him anyway, I find it a better solution to simply let him move in with you. If you are agreeable?”

Jamie was more than agreeable. It would save her from having to deal with Duo during those times when Wufei did go home. The boy was notorious for moping around the house without his dragon to tease, flirt, and snuggle with. “Only on one condition. We move him into Duo’s room. He’ll spend most of his time there anyway.”

“Agreed.” She took a cellphone from her bag and hit a button before lifting it to her ear. “Mei? She agreed. Bring the truck.”

Jamie stared in wide-eyed shock. “You knew I would agree, didn’t you?”

“I thought you would,” An acknowledged calmly. “Is there any one of your sons that can keep a secret? We might need a bit of help on the furniture.”

“Right.” Jamie went to the phone and dialed in Heero’s cell phone number. “Heero?”

//Hai.//

“I need your help. I’m going to call the school and call in for you. Can you drive to Wufei’s house and meet me there?”

//Wufei’s house? Certainly, but why?//

Jamie was beginning to see the humor in the situation and she gave Long An a grin. “Well, we need to move someone you see…”

It took a bit of a push, but they managed to move all of Wufei’s stuff into Duo’s room in more or less the same way that it had been arranged in the first place. Jamie was suddenly glad that all of the bedrooms were twenty by sixteen feet. The boys would need the extra space to put everything of Wufei’s and Duo’s in the same room without seeming too crowded.

Jamie and Heero were almost beside themselves as the clock struck three-thirty. They had barely gotten everything done on time, and now that the work was done, they wanted to see everyone else’s reactions.

Wufei managed to get into the house before he was nabbed by both arms—Jamie on one and Heero on the other—then dragged to the stairs. “What the hell are you two doing?”

“Showing you something,” Heero answered promptly.

“Something you’ll like,” Jamie added smugly. “Duo, you might want to tag along.”

Duo was going to tag along regardless. His curiosity was through the roof. He was even more curious when they stopped in front of his room. Wufei froze in the doorway, so he rose up on tiptoe and put his head on the other’s shoulder to see what was going on.

And froze.

Wufei simply couldn’t believe what was in front of his eyes. His large reading chair was near the window, like it had been in his room. All three of his bookshelves were spread around the room, his chest near the foot of the bed. The closet door was open to show that his clothes were hanging next to Duo’s. “I don’t understand,” he whispered.

“We discussed the matter,” Jamie explained gently “your grandmother and I. And decided that we might as well let you live here since you practically live here anyway. Is this okay?”

Wufei didn’t need to think about the answer to that. The only times that he truly felt envious of his boyfriend and two friends was when he had to go home—while they stayed. “Yes.” Turning, he did something his family would never approve of—he hugged Jamie tightly. “Gods, yes. Thank you.”

Jamie almost jumped out of her skin in surprise. Hugging was not a Wufei kind of thing to do. When she gathered her scattered brain back together, she hugged him back.

Duo simply wasn’t able to contain his excitement and tackled both of them. “This is GREAT! HA!” Tilting Wufei’s face up, he kissed him enthusiastically.

Wufei couldn’t help but laugh when he was released, following Duo into the room and investigating to make sure that everything had made it, and where it had been put.

“We’re going out for dinner tonight to celebrate,” Jamie informed them, secretly delighted to see Wufei moving around the room as if he belonged there. She felt like another piece of the puzzle had been slid into place. /I only wish I could keep Quatre too. God knows how his father will react when he finds out about Trowa./ Shaking the mood off, she turned away, calling over her shoulder “An hour, guys! Don’t get too distracted!”

“You know they will,” Heero informed her. There was a satisfied smile lingering over his face, matching the one on Jamie’s.

“Yeah, but I had to say it anyway. It’s a mother kind of thing.”

“Hn.”

Wufei sauntered oh-so-casually towards the door as soon as Jamie and Heero moved away, locking the door. Duo’s ears caught the sound and he looked away from his contemplation of the walk in closet, brow quirked and a smile starting to tease the corners of his mouth.

“Any particular reason why you’re locking the door, ‘Fei?”

“One,” Wufei admitted feeling anticipation thrum through his veins. He moved to Duo, rubbing his hands against each other as he moved. Duo was smiling widely now, recognizing the look in Wufei’s eye.

“And that would be…?”

“I’ve had a fantasy for a while now,” he slid his hands around Duo’s waist and brought their bodies flush against each other “about you, me, and that overly large reading chair that I like so much.”

Duo was beginning to catch the idea behind this particular fantasy, and his body went tight with lust. He slid his hands up Wufei’s arms and around his shoulders. “Really? Tell me the details.”

“First I get all of the bothersome clothing out of the way.” To illustrate, he jerked Duo’s shirt up and off, tossing it casually behind him before his hands fell to the snap at the top of the jeans. Duo found this to be a good idea and started working on the buttons of Wufei’s shirt, even as his lover claimed his mouth hungrily.

Wufei walked both of them backwards towards the window as they worked clothing off. Duo’s pants and boxers were lost on the carpet by the time they reached the red armchair. Breaking the kiss, he pushed Duo onto the chair and started nipping the skin of his neck. He felt a groan under his lips and shifted his hands down to a half-aroused erection.

Duo threw his head back as Wufei touched him, exactly where and how he loved to be touched. “Do me, Feinaaahh! Do me!”

Wufei growled, reaching behind Duo and underneath the cushion for a new tube of lubricant. Duo felt his fumbling and took a glance under his arm. When the white tube came into view he started laughing. “You really have been planning this, haven’t you?”

“It’s not that!” Wufei protested, flushing a little.

“Oh reeeaallly.”

“Yes, really!” Wufei rolled his eyes, even as his fingers twisted off the cap.

“Then why’s it there, huh?” Duo was rather enjoying this. Wufei was just too darn cute when he was all flustered.

“It was the only place that Meiran wouldn’t think to check,” Wufei admitted. He dropped the tube on the floor, setting his fingers against Duo’s entrance. Duo’s eyes fell closed as he was deftly stroked and stretched. Wufei grazed against a certain spot and he groaned, feeling tingles spark through his body. “Wufei…”

And that was what Wufei had been waiting for. Duo only called him by his full name when he was so desperate and out of his mind with pleasure that he couldn’t think up a nickname. One of his hands fell to his jeans, finishing the job that Duo had started and pushing them to the top of his thighs. He slowly freed his hand, setting it on Duo’s ankle to hold it in place as he moved into position. Capturing Duo’s mouth again, he pushed into a tight heat that trembled a little in reaction around him.

When he was fully seated, he pulled back enough to look into Duo’s eyes. They were dark, and slightly unfocused. Wufei smiled at the feeling of power and intense pleasure rocketing through his body. It was a heady sensation to know that he was making his lover tremble with need. Slowly he pulled back, then in. Duo’s hands latched onto the arms, but he couldn’t find the leverage he needed to move his hips against Wufei.

Wufei saw the frustration, but he wasn’t willing to let Duo up. This was exactly where he wanted him. The steady rhythm went up a notch, and this time Wufei began to deliberately strike against the sweet spot. Duo choked on a scream as the first burst of white pleasure shot across his vision. Wufei grasped his head with both hands, kissing him ruthlessly even as he pounded against the same spot over and over.

Duo couldn’t catch his breath, or find it in him to care about the lack of oxygen as Wufei pistoned into him. He couldn’t think—the constant contact against his prostrate didn’t let him. Soon it was too much and he fell apart, climaxing with long shudders against his lover’s abdomen.

Wufei growled low in the back of his throat as he followed, snapping his hips inside one last time to ride out the storm. When he was finally thinking again, he realized that Duo was laughing. “What?”

Duo kissed him on the temple, still laughing. “I love your mind, Wu. You got any more ideas you haven’t shared yet?”

Wufei grinned back at him. He felt sated, and for once he was completely happy about life. It was easy to feel that way when you had everything that you wanted. “A few. We’re going to have to wait until early morning on one of them, though.”

Duo arched a brow at this. Oh boy. This was going to be fun. “And why is that?”

“Because it involves the hot tub.”

“Kinky,” Duo agreed cheerfully. “Let’s do it tonight.”

The intercom next to the door sounded. //Boys, you’ve got ten minutes to catch a quick shower.//

Wufei and Duo exchanged a glance. “She knew exactly what we were doing, didn’t she?”

Wufei nodded wryly. “Looks like it. She’s right, though, we do need a shower.”

Duo waggled his eyebrows. “You wanna take one together?”

“Duo…we only have ten minutes.”

“Yeah…and your point is?”
