" All Through The Night "

Chapter 12

Whoever called it necking was a poor judge of anatomy.
Groucho Marx

It was Wufei’s turn to be up the next morning. Normally this wouldn’t have bothered Duo (after all, it meant more sleep for him!) but he had been sleeping with Wufei, and without the dragon’s noticeably warming presence, Duo got cold very quickly and woke up.

Grouchy, he stumbled out of bed and went to the living room, blanket trailing behind him. He was going to track Wufei down, make him sit, then curl up and go back to sleep in his boyfriend’s lap. That way, at least, Duo could get some more sleep without
endangering the mission.

Wufei looked up from his book to see the sleepy glare he was getting. “Duo?”

Without a word Duo went to him, arranged himself comfortably in his lap, and snuggled in with a sigh. “Can’t sleep without you. Bed’s cold.”

“Ah.” /I really shouldn’t be delighted that he hunted me down./ Wufei pulled him in more snugly and passed a kiss over his forehead.

Duo’s nose scrunched up. Pointing at his mouth he muttered, “You missed.”

Grinning slightly, Wufei set about rectifying his poor aim. Duo made a pleased sound in the back of his throat, casually slipping both arms up around a bronze-tinted neck.

“Am I going to be walking in on you two making out on the couch as well?”

Duo kept kissing Wufei, and gave Heero the finger.

“First it was Quatre and Trowa,” Heero muttered as he went to the kitchen, bypassing the kissing teens. “Now it’s Duo and Wufei. Hormones.” Heero snorted, resigned.

From the living room, there was the sound of soft laughter and murmured voices. Heero paused in getting his morning coffee, and glanced in their direction, smiling slightly. He hadn’t heard Duo laugh like that in a month. It was a real laugh, not in any way forced. It was good to hear it. /I knew Wufei would be good for him./

With that small enigmatic smile hovering over his lips, he went to the computer room instead of returning to the living room, giving them time to themselves.

Somewhat to Relena’s disappointment, everyone was fully dressed when she came out for breakfast. She forgot it completely when she saw Heero at the table. Out of everyone, it was his anger at her that hurt the worst. She paused in the doorway, very hesitant about continuing any further.

Wufei caught sight of her out of the corner of his eye. Turning in his chair, he waved her forward. “Stop cowering, woman.”

She glanced at Heero, but his face gave her no indication of what to do. Biting her lower lip, she walked forward as normally as possible and sat to Wufei’s right. Duo put the coffee pot on the table before scooting in close to Wufei on the other side. A little too close…and Wufei usually didn’t smile at him like that. Had she missed something? “Um…where is Quatre?”

Duo leaned around Wufei to give her a funny look. “He hasn’t seen Trowa in two weeks, and you’re wondering where he is?”

“Oh.” Relena fought to keep from blushing, but she had a feeling that the blush won.

“Hunger will force them out eventually,” Wufei commented neutrally. His tone was spoiled by twitching lips.

“Sally contacted me while you two were making out on the couch,” Heero offered blandly, sadistically pleased when Wufei blushed and shot him a glare. “The timetable has been moved up slightly. We leave tomorrow morning.”

Duo was glaring at his best friend. “’Fei?”

“Yes?”

“You know that picture you wouldn’t let me give Relena?”

“…objection withdrawn. Go right ahead.”

Most of the day was spent packing things up and generally getting ready to move out the next day. Trowa and Wufei flipped a coin on who would cook (Wufei lost) which meant that it was Duo who got to do dishes. Duo grouched to himself as he started cleaning up dinner dishes. He hated doing dishes. He always broke something. Besides, everyone else was in the living room and watching a movie. A good movie, if it actually got a chuckle out of Heero.

Another set of hands joined in, rinsing and drying before putting them away. Duo looked at Trowa like he was crazy for helping, but wasn’t about to protest the help.

“Duo.”

“Yeah?”

“You aren’t repeating my mistake, are you?”

The dish slowly lowered into the water as Duo turned, giving him a puzzled look. “Huh?”

“Quatre told me the situation. You’re afraid of loving Wufei.” Trowa arched an eyebrow. “Just like I was afraid of loving Quatre.”

Duo opened his mouth to deny that, but slowly closed it again. Actually, he had a point.

“Do you remember what you said to me?” When Duo didn’t respond, Trowa quietly repeated those words from five months ago. “’ Loving somebody means unconditional trust, and support, and caring. I think you’re capable of that—from what I’ve seen, you’re already doing it.’ Ring a bell?”

“Did I really say something that profound?”

“I found it just as hard to swallow, but yes you did Are you going to take your own advice, Duo Maxwell?”

Did he trust Wufei? Absolutely. Did he care about him? Hell yeah. Was he absolutely hot for his sexy self? No question about it. A deep chuckle rumbled its way out of his chest. “I’m such an idiot.”

“I know,” Trowa deadpanned.

“I’ve been in love with him all this time, and too scared to admit it.” Duo started laughing harder. It was either laugh or kick himself for his stupidity.

Wufei ducked into the kitchen, brow quirked. “Trowa, what on earth did you say to set him off?”

Duo bounced forward, flinging himself into his lover’s arms. “I love you and I’m such an idiot.”

Wufei scrambled to keep his jaw in place. Either Duo was just babbling at high speeds, or… “I think you’re right on both accounts, but what brought this on?”

Trowa smiled slightly, pleased that he had been able to kick Duo in the right direction. “I’ll finish the dishes. Why don’t you tell him the full story, Duo?”

“Sure thing!” Duo dragged his un-protesting lover down the hallway and into their room.

---------

“…I hadn’t realized they had such problems,” Wufei commented thoughtfully. He was sprawled on the bed, Duo curled half on his chest, head propped up on his arm. One of the Asian’s hands was slowly stroking through thick chestnut hair, an almost absent caress that Duo thoroughly enjoyed.

“I’m still not quite sure what it was that straightened Tro out,” Duo confessed, perfectly content to just lay there and watch Wufei. /Damn, but he’s good looking./ “All I know is that he stormed out and then the next morning I walked into Q’s room to
find them all tangled up together. I wasn’t about to question a good thing so I kinda just let them alone.”

Wufei shifted slightly, propping his head up with his free hand so he could look at Duo easily. “That brings us to the original point. Why were you so afraid?”

“Me and Tro…we’re a lot alike in some ways. We never loved anyone before. It was why I recognized what he was going through. Its uncharted territory for me, ‘Fei and I’m really scared of screwing it up. It…would hurt if I screwed it up.”

“Equal risk,” Wufei murmured gently.

“I don’t get how you can be so calm about it,” Duo confessed, a little perplexed. “I mean, you loved me even when you didn’t think I’d ever love you back. That’s gotta be scary.”

“Scary? No. I wasn’t risking anything really because I wasn’t asking for anything. As for loving you, Duo…sometimes we love simply because we can’t help it.”

Duo wriggled closer, teasing his lover’s mouth with soft kisses. “I’m glad I’m irresistible, then.”

Any smart reply that Wufei might have made never had a chance to form as Duo took the kiss deeper. Wufei rolled them over, mouth working urgently, greedily, even as a hand pushed up past a shirt and over smooth skin.

Heero looked up as Trowa came into the living room. “Where’s Duo?”

Quatre cleared his throat, slowly going beet red. “Uh…I wouldn’t look for him, Heero. He’s…occupied.”

Trowa arched an amused eyebrow at the blond. So, he could feel them, hmm? Sometimes if the emotion was strong enough it would affect him. That would be…interesting.

“Trowa, stop that!” Quatre growled.

Trowa just smiled.

Relena could see the signs and in no way wanted to be in the vicinity when things came to a head. “Right. I’m just going to call it an early night. Good night, everyone.”

Quatre started squirming a little. Heero saw Relena’s point and followed her hasty retreat to his own room.

Trowa lazily stretched, deliberately letting his shirt ride up enough to show a glimpse of skin. Quatre’s eyes glazed over as he watched. /3…2…/

Quatre just couldn’t handle the building pressure anymore. He launched himself at his lover, tackling him and taking them both to the ground.

/1./ Trowa returned the heated kiss, fighting for dominance. After a pleasurable amount of tussling, he finally surrendered it to his lover, feeling only a slight pang at the unavoidable carpet burns he was likely to get from this.

/…oh well./
