Special Note: I can't believe it, it's finished. Congratulate me guys, this is the first multi-parter I've ever written that has actually gotten finished. Yeehoo, *picks up plot bunny and dances around the room* I hope that you guys enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. And yes the lemony third fic is under way. I just have to think of a title, and work out some of the bugs.

Special Thanks: To Tk, for her patience with my bad grammer, and her insight on some parts. And to Hawk for her encouragement and ideas on some areas. Also to both of them for allowing me to use them as OC's I really couldn't have done this fic without either of you guys. Lub ya.

Finding Myself

Epilogue

Standing in front of a fireplace, of yet another of their many safe houses, the firelight reflecting in his eyes, Heero Yuy, placed a medical folder into the flames. Sensing the presence of one of his comrades behind him, he simply placed several more sheets of paper and several photographs, into the flames. Watching them turn to cinders, the smoke curling up the chimney, erasing all traces of a young man by the name of ‘John Doe’.

"Getting rid of the last of it?" the surprisingly quiet and subdued voice of Duo Maxwell, caused Heero to turn and regard his companion. The surprise at his friend, and crushes subdued nature, hidden behind his usual expressionless mask.

"Hai" surprised at the answer, when he’d been expecting to be ignored Duo stepped closer to his crush, and gently removed the final article from Heero’s hand. Glancing down at the picture, he smiled softly, at the carefree expressions of the three girls, and the Japanese, boy/man known then as ‘John’.

"Why not keep this one, Hee-chan!" Duo’s voice hitching slightly on the nickname, he’d come to see as a secret endearment. "I mean it’s small enough you could carry it with you."

"Hnn," the emotionless grunt his only answer, Duo placed the picture back into Heero’s hand and left the room. Unaware of the gentle look that followed him out the door, or the soft smile that was directed towards the picture.

In another town

Searching through her purse and growling softly, Liz sighed and sat down on the front step, //what a day to forget my keys//, glancing at her watch she smiled slightly, and the smile widened as Hawk’s car pulled into the drive, with Tk sitting in the passenger seat.

"Loose something, Liz?" Hawk smiled wickedly as she walked toward her friend, and roommate dangling her own set of keys from a finger, and rattling them teasingly.

Shaking her head Liz stuck out her tongue. It had only taken them a little over a week to realize that with ‘John’s’ absence the house was just to empty. As a result, they’d refurbished the den, and made it into another bedroom, Hawk had moved in and the three of them had returned to life as usual. With the small exception of leaving ‘John’s’ room untouched. It had been a unanimous decision, though none of them truly expected too see him again, they had been unable to bring themselves to change the room, and Hawk had stated it would just be to ‘weird’ to take over ‘John’s’ space.

"Earth to Liz," Tk stated softly, waving a hand in front of her friends face and motioning to the now open front door. Shaking her head and giving her friend a small sad smile, Liz stood and moved inside.
========================
Moving into the living room three sets of eyes widened in shocked disbelief as they came to rest on three manila envelopes sitting on the coffee table.

"What the..." Tk’s voice broke off as she stepped closer and was able to make out that each envelope had one of their names neatly printed on the front.

The living room curtain, blowing lightly in the breeze, caught their attention briefly, before Hawk hesitantly reached forward and picked up the envelope with her own name on it.

Pausing briefly to glance at her friends Hawk opened the envelope and pulled it’s contents out, gasping softly in surprise as an 8x10 copy of her picture of ‘John’ and them making faces on the couch was revealed. ~~your favorite pic to my friend?~~

Eyes wide with surprise, Tk opened her own envelope, revealing her manuscript, flipping through quickly she nodded at the questioning glances she received from her friends, as she found it intact, with exception of the last page. Smiling softly she placed the manuscript back on the table. <Guess you though it needed a happier ending, eh my friend?>

Turning expectant eyes towards Liz, Hawk and Tk waited patiently as Liz nervously opened her own envelope, revealing her drawing of ‘John’ that she had done the day before he’d disappeared. //I still don't like the eyes.// Placing the drawing to one side Liz frowned slightly puzzled by the weight still inside the envelope.

Reaching inside once more she gasped softly as she pulled free the leather journal, that Tk had given ‘John’ just after he’d begun to live with them.

Noticing the marked page Liz opened the journal slowly, sinking on to the nearest chair as her eyes quickly scanned the page and filled with tears.

Taking the journal from Liz’s hand, Tk glanced quickly over the page her one eyes growing misty, as she cleared her throat and began to read the words aloud.

I am not the person, you believed me to be. I have no name of my own, and no family. My childhood was none existent, and I may not live to see the end of this war.

I am a soldier. Fighting and killing are the only truths I have ever known. There is no room for emotions in the life of a soldier. That at least is what I was trained to believe.

If only for a brief time you were able to find the humanity, I did not know that I possessed. Freeing a part of me that was deeply hidden.

The kindness and love that you showed me, though I cannot claim to know those emotions myself, will never be forgotten. Perhaps you have shown me the way to find those missing emotions. Or at least a direction in which to begin.

You will always be remembered.

John (H.Y.) Doe.

Placing the journal aside Tk regarded her two friends with a watery smile. "I think," she began her voice catching slightly, "John was trying to tell us Good-bye."
=============================
unnoticed by the three girls a figure silently walked away from the window and off down the street. A soft smile painting usually expressionless lips and a small hint of warmth in dark ebony eyes.

"Mission complete, Yuy." The softly spoken sentence drifting away on the wind as the figure turned back to regard the house. A light coming on, in one of the upstairs bedrooms causing the smile to widen slightly, as the figure turned and dissapeared into the night.
==============================
three weeks later

Liz entered the quiet bedroom and sighed softly, though he had sent them all a good-bye of sorts they still hadn’t been able to bring themselves to change what they had all come to consider, ‘John’s’ room.

"Will we ever learn your real name?" Liz whispered quietly to the empty room.

"Probably not," Tk’s voice behind her making Liz jump and then giggle nervously. Smiling at her friend she noticed the object in her friends hand.

"Is that..." she began.

Tk nodded and cut her off, "hot off the presses, your copy’s down stairs." Smiling Tk handed the object to Liz and squeezed her friends shoulder. "Don’t be to long, we’re going out to celebrate, my treat!"

Nodding Liz watched her friend walk away, before glancing down at the book she now held in her hands.

‘Finding Myself: A Place to Call Home. By Toria Katilin Welch’ was neatly scripted on the cover, of her friends first published novel.

Smiling slightly Liz ran a hand over the cover, she and Hawk had both read the manuscript before Toria had submitted it. Ending on a rather vague note, Liz shook her head sadly, the publisher had been crying almost constantly for a sequel, but Tk claimed that for now she had no idea, where the story would go or if there would ever be a sequel. //It's hard to write a sequel when you don't know what's happened to your main character// Liz's mind supplied as she blinked her eyes rapidly to chase away tears, before they could fall.

Walking slowly across the room to the desk by the window, Liz gently placed the book down, beside a leather bound journal, sparing a glance at the framed group picture sitting on the corner. Moving back to the hallway she took one last glance back into the room, smiling softly as her gaze rested on the charcoal drawing hanging at the head of the bed.

"You will always have a home with us!" she said quietly closing the door gently behind her and heading off to join her friends.

Soft expressive eyes, and a faint smile forever captured in charcoal, standing silent vigil in the now empty room.
=================================
back at the safe house.

Cobalt eyes soften slightly as they gaze at a picture tucked neatly into corner of a laptop screen.

"You will always be remembered." The normally emotionless voice, soft and gentle, as the laptop is slowly booted down. Heading towards the door the figure looks back for a moment, eyes shining with emotion as they trace each pictured female face lovingly.

***I found myself, with your help, now it's time to find my heart with him.***a soft smile ghosting across his lips, Heero Yuy, leaves the room, closing the door gently behind him.

Three female and one male face forever frozen in black and white. Happy, carefree expressions, faintly hinting at a wind of change .
