Special Note: I blame this on Hawk, and Tk. LOL. Hawk for wanting so many Les Mis fics. And Tk for not wanting "Break Through" to end on such a sad note.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Tk is going to get her happy ending very soon *eeps quietly, and hides under computer desk, as Tk brandishes her whip* as this story has taken on a life of its own.

Forgive the shameless self-insertion, and the insertion of the two instigators of this fic. But I needed some OC’s and this worked for me.

Finding Myself

Part 1

***Walking through the shadows of darkness, cold and lonely. Is this the way it’s always been for me? I try to open my eyes but it’s just to hard. Everything hurts. Something tells me I should be able to ignore the pain, but I can’t. Muted voices penetrate my solitary world. Statements of "do they think he’ll ever wake up" or "there’s been no change doctor.". Where am I? Why am I here? What is my name? To many questions, not enough answers and as the darkness claims me again, I feel relieved.***

Unaware of the inner turmoil of her patient, Dr. E.M. Blaine stared at the clipboard in her hand and frowned. Physically he was doing well, most of his injuries had been superficial. But the head injury, which had caused the young man lying in the bed to be unconscious for nearly 3 weeks, worried her. Numerous cat scans had come back with no sign of cranial stress. It didn’t make sense.

Sighing she placed the clipboard back on its peg and stared at her young patient. //He can’t be more than 15 or 16 years old, so young, and yet some of the injuries he’s lived through...// she cut off her own internal musings and sighed softly. Brushing a hand over the young mans forehead to move his bangs out of his eyes, she chuckled sadly as said bangs tumbled back to their original local.

"Your hair is even more stubborn then mine my young friend." Shaking her head sadly, Dr. Blaine moved to leave the room. "I’ll be back to see you after I go off duty, all right." Shaking her head again she mentally scolded herself //What would professor Braun think if he could see you now? He’d say you can’t afford, to get personally attached to your patient Elizabeth! And move into a 20 minute lecture about the need for distancing yourself while you work.// Sighing softly Dr. Blaine looked back at her young patient one last time before moving off to continue her rounds.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Several hours later

Dr. E.M.Blaine sat in her office and sighed heavily. Three births, two broken arms and one death, and she felt as if the entire world was resting on her shoulders. A knock on her office door caused her to jump slightly as she looked up from the paper work she’d been staring at without seeing for the last 10 minutes.

"Come in!" standing in the doorway with an understanding smile on her face was her flat mate and friend TK. Welch.

"Rough day Liz?" leaning against the door frame, her friend was the picture of utter calm and reliability, and Liz smiled slightly.

"Just what you could notice." She replied softly. Jotting her signature onto two more pieces of paper she stood and stretched. "Give me 5 minutes to change my clothes, and we’ll head out." Nodding consent, Tk folded herself gracefully into one of the chairs in her friends' office and waited patiently.
----------------------------------------------------------------
As Liz stepped out of the bathroom wearing loose jeans and a sweatshirt, Tk smiled and shook her head.

"You know if people around here didn’t know you, they’d think you were playing at being a doctor."

"I can’t help it if I don’t look my age." Liz smiled at her friend and pulled the pins from her hair, allowing it to fall down her back in a saucy red waterfall. "Ugh, I’ve definitely got to get a hair cut." She mumbled as she run her fingers through the tangled locks.

"You do I’ll shoot you." Tk threatened with only a hint of teasing in her tone. Standing and moving toward the doorway, Tk looked back over her shoulder and frowned lightly, "Are you going to see Him, before we head out?"

Nodding slightly Liz took in the worried countenance of her friend and sighed, "I promised him Tk," at her friends frown she continued before she could be interrupted. "I know, I’m not supposed to become attached, but.... There's just something special about him."

"That and the fact that he’s all alone!" Tk said softly, a small hint of something more in that simple statement.

"Yeah that to." Liz admitted sadly. Shaking her head she grinned, "come on lets go. I’ll drop in see how’s he doing and then we’ll go get Hawk, and go out for supper. My treat."

"Your on!" Tk laughed, "just remember what kind of appetite the three of us have when we’re together." Groaning at the bad personal joke Liz led the way to the nurses' station.
----------------------------------------------------
"Signing out for the night Dr. Blaine?"

"That would be correct, Jason." Liz said smiling lightly at the dark haired orderly. As she reached for her time card, a nurse came running up to the desk.

"Dr. Blaine. Room 302, is awake. And he’s quite, distressed." Dropping the pen and card on the desk, Liz, spun on her heel and ran for the room. Both excited and apprehensive over her mysterious, young friends waking.

Sliding to a stop at the doorway, she was just in time to hear a deep, demanding monotone voice.

"I want to get out of here! Now!"

"Please relax young man. When the Dr. Gets here we’ll see what happens," the voice of the nurse slightly breathless and mildly annoyed. Stepping through the door, Liz frowned as she saw the chocolate haired young man struggling to get out of the bed. The frazzled nurse struggling to keep him there and losing.

"That’s enough!" She exclaimed firmly, causing both nurse and patient to look at her in surprise. "You can leave now nurse."

"Mame?"

" I said you can go!" Liz repeated sharply, nodding the nurse left with a hesitant backwards glance. Stepping forward, Liz shook her head and smiled gently at the young man sitting on the edge of the bed.

"You’re a Doctor?" the disbelief on his face and in his voice caused Liz’s smile to widen. She nodded slightly.

"That’s what they tell me!" the disbelief stayed on his face and Liz shook her head. Pulling her id from her pocket she handed it to him as she picked up his chart and pretended to read it. "Well Mr. Doe, you’ve certainly had us concerned."

"Doe?" the young man looked at her in confusion, handing her back her id.

"No id, and no distinguishing marks to compare to the data base of missing persons." Liz replied with a small frown, "we didn’t know what to call you." The young man nodded and frowned himself.

"I don’t.... I don’t remember." He looked up at her and Liz found herself gazing into confused and pained cobalt eyes. The likes of which she’d never seen before. The fear and emptiness in those deep blue eyes, calling out and breaking her heart with their poignancy.

"Give it time, my young friend, give it time!" Liz said quietly making notes on the clipboard. A hand on her arm startling her into looking up.

"You,... you’ve been here before." Shaking his head the young man growled in frustration. "Not just...not as a doctor,... but as a friend?" Liz smiled slightly, and nodded. "Why?" Liz shook her head sadly.

"Because you needed a friend." She paused for a moment, then smiled softly, "and because I could give it." He tilted his head thoughtfully and frowned.

"But,... you don’t even know me!" the statement soft and confused.

"Sometimes, two hearts are meant to find each other and help each other heal." Liz said softly, then ducked her head in embarrassment, //that sounded like your in love with him you fool//, she hadn’t meant to make it sound like that.

"Don’t mind, Liz, her mouth moves before her brain sometimes." Tk said stepping through the door, and taking in the rosy flush to her friends face. The quick glance and ‘thank you’ in her friends eyes, making Tk extremely glad she’d followed and waited outside the door.

"You,... you’ve been here to, I... I recognize your voice." The young man said with a slight frown. Tk nodded and smiled slightly, though she didn’t agree with Liz’s attachment to this young man, she could understand where her friends, large heart had taken over and made her feel protective. Kindred spirits and life long friendship were two of the things Liz believed in with all her heart, and it was that which had bonded the two of them from the beginning. That had also been the glue, that had pulled Hawk to them, and made the three of them nearly inseperable.

"Why don’t you check him over, and we’ll see about getting him out of here and getting him some real food." Tk said giving Liz a knowing smile. And at the grateful look from both her friend and the young man on the bed, Tk’s smile widened. Even as she mentally groaned at the unvoiced permission she’d just given Liz, to bring him back to their flat.

end part 1 TBC

So, if those two ^ agree, should I continue, or have I got Dr. Blaine to Mary Sue-ish/Mary Jane-ish (whatever the terminology is)? And before the question: Why didn't you use Sally? gets asked, I'll answer it here. Sally would've recognized Heero, to quick and told the others where he was. Thus the story would have started and ended before, there was a chance at a plot. Sound reasonable enough? LOL!
