Part 2

The rest of the day passed slowly, and in Heero's mind, there was only one reason for the crawling hours. The braided baka hadn't once shown up in his office to tease or torment him, and it was starting to wear on Heero's nerves. //I wish things could go back to the way they were. Heero, you bakayaro, nothing can go back to the way that it was.// Sighing inaudibly, Heero picked up his coffee cup and headed for the common room; because of his lack of concentration earlier in the day he was going to be working late. // Hopefully I can track down Duo long enough to tell the baka that he'll have to find his own way home tonight.//

Stopping outside of the common room inside, Heero paused as he recognized Quatre and Duo's voices.

"I just don't know what to do, Quat," Duo Maxwell sighed softly, "I don't wanta leave there but I don't know what else I can do."

"If I knew what happened between the two of you maybe I could help!" Quatre said softly. Seeing the faint blush tinting his friends cheeks crimson, Quatre grinned. "Oh, I see..."

"No you don't see anything, Q." Duo growled in frustration, jumping up from his chair and pacing back and forth. "Nothing happened, well something happened, but it was all on my part, and he didn't reciprocate, and now things are just...just..."

"I believe 'weird', is the word you are looking for Maxwell," a third voice added in, and Heero heard Duo sigh again in frustration.

"Yah, weird works, Woofers," Duo said, the scrapping of metal against wood telling Heero that the braided American had sat back down. The lack of response telling Heero that Wufie had for once let the nickname slip, knowing that Duo was upset.

Shaking his head softly, Heero turned to leave the hallway in front of the common room, only to come up short at the sound of a soft sob.

"I love him Quat, and the only thing that he wanted was the sex."

Not able to keep himself in the area without risking saying something he might regret, Heero turned on his heel and stalked back to his office. Once inside the relative safety of his own space, Heero let some of his emotions show through, and found himself throwing his coffee cup against the wall. Watching the cup smash, and the cold leftover coffee splatter the wall. Heero felt a strange sensation in the back of his eyes, shaking his head to clear it, he walked over to his desk and punched one of the buttons on his phone.

"Crystal, tell Maxwell he needs a ride home tonight. Hnn, busy." Placing the receiver back on the hook, Heero sat down heavily in his chair and opened the drawer of his desk, pulling out the small pink bowtie. Twisting the bowtie through his fingers, Heero shook his head // He loves me! Duo loves me! How can he love me? I'm not worth loving! I've killed so many!//

Shoving the bow back into the drawer, Heero turned back to his paper work, making his mind fall back into it's perfect soldier mode. Half an hour later, paper work complete and files duly noted in the computer, Heero looked at the clock and sighed. Duo would be home, watching TV, and he really wasn't sure he was ready to face the braided American yet.

Grabbing his jacket from the hook by the door, Heero left the Preventors office and headed down the street at a slow and steady walk, mind working in circles, hands deep in his pockets, one hand mindlessly twirling a small object over and over as he wandered aimlessly.

Without consciously realizing it, Heero found himself standing outside of Trowa's apartment building. Pausing for a moment to consider the hour and whether or not he really should accept his comrades offer of help, Heero found himself ringing the buzzer to hear the soft voice of his friend.

"Trowa!"

"Aaa. Come Up."

"Hai." Pulling the door open, and walking up the stairs, having bypassed the elevator needing the extra time to formulate his thoughts, Heero stepped up to his friends apartment door. With a little trepidation finally sinking in, hesitating minutely at knocking. Heero started to lower his hand and walk away, when the door opened and Trowa stood there looking at him.

"Coming in?" the taller man asked as stepped aside to let the small Asian man enter the apartment. The set of heero's shoulders, and his hesitant movements, told Trowa without words just how shaken his friend was, and inwardly, Trowa began to wonder what had happened.

Knowing that Heero would explain in his own way, in his own time, Trowa motioned toward the couch and shut the door behind them.

"Get you anything?"

"Water."

"Aaa." Leaving Heero in the living room, Trowa stepped into the kitchen and straight to the vid phone where his caller was on hold. "Quatre, I'll have to get back to you, I have company." Nodding, the small Arabian simply said good night and that they would talk in the morning. Grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge for Heero, and a beer for himself, Trowa headed back to the living room. His mind was rolling over the strange reactions of his friends, but he simply catalogued them away and went to sit with Heero.

"Hnn."

"Only when you're ready," Trowa said, picking up the remote to the TV, and turning it to the listings.
