Healing Ties PART 4
"Ok, who died?" Hawk joked lightly, then seeing
the painfully glint that flashed through Heeros eyes, turned
and smashed a fist into the door casing, "Damn it! Me and my
big mouth." Growling softly and still berating herself under
her breath Hawk missed Heero moving from his chair to stand beside
her. Just as she was about to pull her had back to punch the wall
again, a lightening fast hand grabbed her wrist, "It's been a long night Hawk," Tk said softly, glancing quickly from Heero to Liz and then simply shrugging, "We're just a little out of it thats all." "Mmm, hmm" Hawk said quietly, not meeting anyones eyes; tracing patterns on the table with her finger. Shaking her head gently, Liz stood and moved to the cupboard to refill the coffee cups and pour some for Hawk. Watching Hawk closely, Heero frowned slightly and glanced at TK. Mouthing 'I'll tell you later' TK simply started a dialogue about what they needed to do for the day. "We have to stock groceries and see about getting some extra fittings for the doors." TK said simply. "Don't forget the night lights, and extra pillows." Liz said setting coffee cups on the table, and returning to her seat. Heero sent her a strange unreadable look at the mention of nightlights but said nothing. "I think one of us should stay here." Hawk said softly not raising her eyes from the table. Nodding Tk waved a hand around the table. "Any volunteers?" "I suppose it should be me!" Liz stated finally, "After all I am supposed to be the main care taker of the place. "And if someone should show up wanting a room, you should be the one to settle them in." Tk affirmed. "Fine, I'll go get the pillows and night lights," Hawk said in a rush, heading for the door, "Catch ya later." Shaking her head softly, Tk looked at the patiently curios face of Heero Yuy, and smiled sadly. "Hawk, well she hates to upset people, and she figured she'd overstepped the bounds with you when she made that comment." Tk shrugged, "she'll get over it, but by the way you reacted to her statement, it might take a while before she'll look you in the eye." "Nani?" Heero questioned quietly. "She hit pretty close to the mark Heero,"
Liz said calmly, raising a hand to stop him when he started to say
something. "No! You don't have to tell us until your ready. But
we are all here to listen if you need to talk." "Well we've got groceries to get, Heero." Looking up at Tk in confusion, Heero simply stared at her. "Don't give me that look Yuy, if your gonna work here your gonna be responsible for some of the shopping, so move that cute little tushie Mr." Giggling softly, Liz shooed both Heero and Tk out the
door, and turned back to the living room. Sitting down on the sofa
with a cup of coffee and a hard covered notebook in her lap, Liz sighed
softly. **somehow, I have to reach him, before he suddenly decides
that he's not worth our care, and he disappears again. But how?**
Eyebrows drawing together in concentration, Liz glanced down at her
note pad, startled to see that instead of jotting notes she'd been
drawing, and the face on the pad was one she'd rather forget. Shaking
her head softly Liz put the notepad down on the coffee table and turned
on the television. Snapping off the TV, Liz tapped her pen against her chin. *Quatre, that's one of the former Gundam pilots, I wonder if Heero speaks with him. Actually I wonder if any of the pilots know where he is, and that he's alright.* Sighing softly Liz wandered out to the front door to pick up the mail, sorting through and placing the majority of it on the dinning room table for later, she paused over a rather official looking envelope, simply addressed to the founder/founders of 'Healing Ties Rehabilitation House'. Cringing at the term Rehabilitation Liz took the envelope and newspaper back into the living room and sat down. Turning the letter over and over in her hands Liz hesitated before picking up the letter opener from the table. *Well I suppose, I am one of the founders. Though I really wish they wouldn't call this place a rehabilitation house.* Wincing slightly at the distasteful term, Liz opened the envelope and pulled out two pieces of paper, one a letter and the other a check, of such a substantial amount that she simply blinked at the paper several times, expecting the numbers to magically rearrange themselves into something smaller. Turning to look at the letter Liz shook her head in amazement *Well I'll be, maybe there is hope for him after all.* ~ * ~
