help Heero to let go of the soldier enough to let him find happiness
with the person who's stolen his heart, or is the Perfect Soldier
destined to spend the Peace time he's worked so hard for alone.
Healing Ties Part 3 Several hours of talking had led to the girls and Heero ordering out for pizza, a strange indescribable look passing over Heeros face when theyd suggested it. //Ill have to ask him about that later// Liz thought, filing away the information and wondering curiously if Heero would actually explain. So whos next in the story telling department? Hawk asked with a small grin. Liz has told her version of things, so its up to you or me now, Tor. Grinning slightly at Hawks candor, Tk shook her head. I guess I can fill in some things. She answered. What exactly would you like to know Heero? Quirking an eyebrow in surprise, Heero regarded the golden haired woman thoughtfully, Youre married? Emotionless on the outside, Heero found himself feeling rather protective and wondering slightly if he was going to get the opportunity to meet this man, whod obviously stolen Tks heart. Seeing the faint flash of concern in Heeros eyes made Liz smile softly. //Theres no need to worry my friend; Tims a wonderful man. Youd like him// Settling back on the couch as Tk began her version of things, Liz sighed contentedly and caught Hawk looking at her out of the corner of her eye. Raising an eyebrow, she gave Hawk a questioning glance that made the other woman smile, and mouth Its good to have him back. Nodding Liz turned her attention back to Tk just in time to hear. So they forced her into an extended vacation. Seeing Heero gazing at her thoughtfully, Liz shook her head. I wasnt working that hard, Liz started - only to let her voice fade away at the looks being thrown at her from Hawk and Tk. Phht, ya right, Hawk snorted, she was working double shifts at the hospital, and then going to night classes on top of that. Hawk finished turning her attention to Heero half way through. Its a wonder she hasnt collapsed long before she fainted this afternoon. Giving Liz a look that purely screamed Baka, Heero shook his head mildly and tilted his head in Hawks direction. What about you? Grinning slightly at the cryptic phrase, Hawk shrugged her shoulders. I dont really have much to add. I moved in with my boyfriend, a little over three years ago, and Liz went and got her own apartment. She glanced at Liz and grinned, Now that we own the flat, shes gonna stay here and oversee the boarders. Nodding faintly, Heero swept his gaze over each of the women in the room, taking in the slight changes in their appearance, but still finding them as kind and loving as he'd remembered. The silence stretching on longer then she felt was comfortable, Hawk stood and stretched. I dont know about you guys but if I dont soon get home, Jasons gonna come looking for me. With a small grin Liz stood and gave Hawk a quick hug. Thank you for a lovely day, Liz said softly. No problem, Ill be back tomorrow, Hawk said, throwing a thumbs-up sign at Heero and Tk as she walked out the door. I suppose I should find a hotel, Tk said softly, starting to get to her feet. Why bother, Liz said suddenly, why cant you stay here? Itll be like old times, and we dont have any boarders right now. Hnn? Heero intoned, giving a quirk of the eyebrow, which Liz interpreted as What am I chopped liver? Give it up Heero. You're not a boarder, you're family. Tk said with a faint yawn, lips tilting upward slightly at the soft flash of shocked gratitude that ghosted through Heeros eyes. And Im too tired to argue. Ill take my old room. Nodding goodnight, she headed off up the stairs. Shaking her head slightly, Liz sat back on the couch and sighed softly. Nani? Heero asked softly, returning to his seat. Hmm? Oh just thinking, I shouldve fought harder, against the board's decision, thats all. Just like Relena! Heero snorted softly, and Liz looked at him for a moment before laughing softly. Should I be flattered or insulted, that you're comparing me to the former queen of the world? she asked quietly, a faint smile painting her lips. Hnn. The noncommittal grunt made Lizs smile widen slightly. Heero, what made you come back? Liz queried softly, bracing herself mentally for the same non-committal grunt. The soft spoken question startling him into dropping his emotionless mask. Heero regarded her for a moment before answering simply, I had no where else to go. ***And outside of the other pilots, you girls are the closest thing I have to family, but why cant I tell you that?*** He mentally berated himself, seeing the small flash of hurt that stormed through green eyes, before disappearing. What about the other Gundam pilots? The nervousness of Lizs question didnt escape Heeros notice, and he was powerless to stop the automatic stiffening of his shoulders, or the cold calculating look he threw in her direction. ***Stop it, shes not the enemy*** The mental berating did little to quell the soldier instincts. Hnn. The harshness of the grunt made Heero wince right along with Liz. Im sorry! I shouldnt have said... No, you have a right to know, his tone harsher and more emotionless than hed planned, Heero shook his head and frowned slightly. Only when you're ready to tell me Heero, not because Im pushing you for answers. Liz said with a hint of self-reproach evident in her voice. Standing, she glanced at him, I think perhaps its time to go to bed. Its after one in the morning, and Im sure your tired. Nodding at the out she was giving him, though he truly wasnt in the least tired, Heero followed Liz through the flat as she checked all the windows and doors. ***Hnn, good instincts.*** Shaking his head mentally at his lapse once again into soldier mode, Heero growled at himself. ***Its no wonder Duo seemed so distant, I cant even let go of the soldier with the girls, how can I let go of the soldier with him? Maybe I should simply disappear.*** Finding himself standing in front of the room that had been his when hed had amnesia, Heero turned as Liz coughed lightly. Stepping forward and wrapping her arms gently around the confused man in front of her, Liz smiled softly, Its good to have you back Heero, please dont leave without at least telling us your going! Letting go and moving off to her own room, Liz bit her bottom lip thoughtfully, //How can I make him understand that we really do want him here? ***How did she know I was thinking of leaving? Why is it she seems to be able to read me so well, even when Im stuck in soldier mode?*** Shaking his head and watching until Liz had entered her room, Heero hesitated momentarily before steeling his resolve, entering his room, and climbing into bed. ================================ + Aishiteru, Heero whispered softly, violet eyes caught his, gleaming in the faint light of the room, a small smile painting soft lips as they trailed lines of molten fire along his neck and shoulder. He moaned softly as that mouth ghosted lower, teeth grazing pebbled nipples, before sliding away to move lower. Nips, licks, and sucks drove him further towards that unknown feeling just beyond his grasp A sudden shift, and the lips were gone. Opening his eyes, Heero gazed in abject horror at the scene now around him- littered pieces of gundanium, broken bodies, and there in the middle, hanging from a scrap of unforgiving metal, its owner no where to be seen, a long chestnut braid, swayed in the stifling wind + Jolting into a sitting position on his bed, Heero fought to bring his breathing under control, struggling to bring his training forward, to deal with this monster. A sudden shift of the mattress, caused him to tense, his eyes unfocused, body perched for escape, then a gentle voice singing softly in his ear as gentle hands brushed along his hair let him find a mild sense of control. ============================= Holding Heero lightly, Toria Kaitlin Welch searched her mind quickly for anything she could do or say to calm the obviously petrified young man in her arms. The unearthly shout that had come from the bedroom across the hall had driven all vestiges of sleep from her tired mind, shocking her into wakefulness and sending her flying from her room. Mind catching on the one thing that worked with her as a child, Toria opened her mouth and began to sing, "I, I can't read the future, but I still want to hold you close, right now, I need from you. So give me the morning, sharing another day with you is all I want to know. And baby I, I've tried to forget you, but the light in your eyes still shines. You shine like an angel, a spirit that won't let me go. I, I didn't want to tell you things I didn't want to know myself, was afraid to show. You, you gave me a reason, a reason to face the truth, oh yes you did, to face the truth, face the truth, face the truth. And baby I, I've tied to forget you, but the light of your eyes still shines like an angel, a spirit that won't let me go. And baby I, I've tried to forget you, but the light in your eyes still shines, like an angel, a spirit that won't let me go. Won't let me go." Feeling the tension and fear ease marginally, she shifted him gently to a more comfortable position against her, a sad sort of smile teasing her lips as Heero relaxed back into her arms. Looking across the top of Heeros head to the door, Toria nodded slightly at Lizs questioning look and smiled lightly through the words of the song, as her friend mouthed Ill go make coffee. ========================== The unearthly shout had pulled Liz from her own dreams. Shaking her head as she set the coffee percolator, she shoved her own memories to the back ground and concentrated on Heero. //What could have upset him like that? I thought soldiers were trained against pain and suffering.// Slapping herself mentally, Liz shook her head again and pulled coffee mugs roughly from the cupboard. //And your forgetting one key factor, Elizabeth! All soldiers are people just like you. Training can only do so much. And we all have our own ghosts.// Shivering slightly, Liz wrapped her arms around herself and moved to the living room window. //I wonder...could one of his fellow pilots, be the key to getting him to let go?// Filing that thought away to share with Hawk and Tk later, Liz turned back to the kitchen. Pausing at the bottom of the stairs, she could still hear Tk singing softly, and a faint smile ghosted across Lizs lips. Returning to the kitchen and sitting down in a chair,
Liz mulled over the events of the last twenty four hours, forcefully
ignoring her own memories once again. Her mind so occupied, she missed
the face that peered through the kitchen window, and disappeared into
the inky black, from where it had come. |
