Duo POV in this story. 'Thinking' "Speaking" ************ Time passing or scene change Author's Notes: I don't know for sure how many stories there will be or how often I'll be posting them. The length of each story in the arc will vary, anywhere from ficlet to multi-part. Warnings will vary from story to story as well, as will the genre. Pairings will probably eventually make their way in, but it will be quite a while since the first half dozen or so stories are drafted out and there's no real indication of pairings in them as of yet. Surprising Part 5 Arc fic 89 The guestroom door snicked shut, much to Duo's relief,
leaving him alone in the hallway. He quietly opened the bedroom door,
slipped inside, then pulled the door closed behind him. 'Thank god,
the evening's *finally* over. Hell, this whole damn *day* lasted for-fucking-ever...
And that was with Heero here too...' He didn't even want to *think* about how long Sunday
was going to be, stuck on his own with Quatre and Trowa while Heero
pulled a disappearing act. Despite the fact that he understood why
Heero felt the need to leave ahead of schedule and spend some time
alone, Duo couldn't completely dismiss the disappointment that Heero's
decision had caused. He knew that Heero's behaviour had nothing to
do with him personally and everything to do with the presence of their
surprise houseguests but the distance that Heero was putting between
them still hurt. Duo gave a quick glance at the bed and stifled the urge
to sigh. He stripped to boxers then pulled on a T-shirt, taking his
cue from the shirt-clad shoulder that peeked above the covers. If
Heero had felt the need to dress for bed now that they had guests
in the house, he would follow Heero's lead. He slid into bed carefully,
leaving a small distance between Heero's hunched, tense back and himself.
'No pressure... I promised him control and I won't go back on my word.'
Not that Duo had expected them to *do* anything while
they had guests sleeping across the hall - but he'd hoped that they
could at least spoon up together and take comfort from each other's
presence. Exchange some kisses, maybe a few caresses. 'So much for *that*. Heero's not asleep but his body
language is practically shouting "don't touch me, leave me alone".
*Dammit*...' Duo closed his eyes and tried to relax. It was hard
to believe that last night, he and Heero had been completely naked,
kissing and caressing and exploring one another's bodies, a little
awkwardly at first but with increasing familiarity and comfort as
first the evening then the night wore on. Even harder to believe that
this morning, they'd been well past "making out" and on
the verge of making love. 'Until the damned doorbell rang...' he thought
resentfully. Tonight, they weren't even touching, let alone skin-to-skin.
They weren't just back to square one; they were back to absolute *zero*.
'It's like those first couple of times that necessity forced us to
share a bed during the war. Him lying as far away from me as he could
get without falling off the bed, wide awake but feigning sleep, tense
and unnaturally still. *Dammit*...' Part of Duo wanted desperately to just scoot up behind
Heero, wrap his arm around him and press their bodies together and
hold tight until Heero gave in and relaxed. Until Heero rolled over
and hugged him back just as tightly. The rest of him knew better. Knew that forcing the issue
would be more likely to make things worse than to fix them. Knew that
the next move was up to Heero. He would just have to be patient and
hope that the setback would be short-lived. Opening his eyes, Duo whispered, "Remember, Heero
- you're in control here..." There was no verbal response, just
an infinitesimal lessening of the tension of the shoulders in front
of him. Despite the fact that he hadn't really expected anything else,
Duo couldn't help feeling disappointed anymore than he could help
feeling a certain amount of resentment towards their uninvited guests.
Quatre's surprise visit had shot their wonderful plans for the weekend
all to hell and they wouldn't really have a chance to be alone together
to try and fix things until *next* weekend. It was going to be a very
long week. Eventually, Duo managed to fall asleep, his last thought
an unhappy, 'I *hate* surprises...' ################################################# On to arc fic : |
