Five minutes later Duo breathlessly opened the door to their rented room. "Heero!" he shouted on seeing his friend. Heero whirled around, his hand still on the gun he was inserting into the back of his waistband under a jacket. Immediately he relaxed, his hands settling back to his side. "I was just about to go back out in search of you," he murmured, turning his head away. He didn't want Duo to see how immensely relieved he was. He'd promised Zechs he'd watch out for Duo and here he'd thought he'd lost him already! [Zechs would never forgive me... nah, don't think about that...] "Yeah, we got separated," Duo said, swallowing hard as he caught his breath. He came into the room, closing the door behind and tossing his cap on the sofa. He was never more glad to see Heero Yuy than he was at this moment. "I thought he got you and I wasn't sure what to do... so I came back to check if you were here," he said, wanting to ask the other boy if he was okay. [Of course he's okay. Heero's always okay.] "There were a lot of people in that store," Heero replied, nodding. "You lost both of us." He blinked, studying the other boy for a moment. "You all right?" [Zechs would also kill me if you got hurt,] he added silently to himself. Duo's eyes went wide. [Huh?] It wasn't like Heero... the old Heero... to voice his concern for Duo's well being. [I wonder if Zechs said something to him?] "Uh, yeah, I'm okay now that I know you're okay," he said as he headed over to the mini refrigerator to grab a cola. "You want one?" he asked over his shoulder. "Hmm?" [Why wouldn't I be okay?] Heero puzzled. "Sure," he replied, following his companion over. "I suppose the tail will be around tonight if the meeting is in the same place," he added thoughtfully. "Perhaps you should move the location." "Can do," Duo said, cheerily and tossed a can over his shoulder. "Catch!" He stood and turned in time to see Heero catch the flying can with ease. "Heh, I could've used you on my space football team back when I was a Sweeper," he said, smiling brightly. "You're a natural." He popped the lid on his own can of cola and took a long drink. "Oh, yeah, I needed that," he said, and wiping his mouth on the sleeve of his jacket he plopped down in a chair. [Football?] Heero wondered, then settled on one end of the sofa, opening his can of cola. "Sweepers... those were units of scavengers, right? Mining debris from space, that sort of thing?" "Yep, I did that for a few years, but I never gave up my career as a pickpocket. One of the best skills I ever learned," Duo said, leaning back in the chair and taking another long sip. "I think most guys would be ashamed to say they knew how to pick people's pockets, but it's always come in handy for me. I don't think I'll ever give it up," he said and laughed. "I can see where that'd be plenty useful," Heero replied. "I imagine the five of us have all sorts of interesting skills that would be useful against an enemy beyond just being pilots. It's understandable that we'd sometimes have to fight and foil the enemy without our mobile suits." As Heero spoke, Duo tried to imagine what other skills his fellow pilots had. [Wufei... I don't know that guy... and Quatre? I guess his heart sense is a skill...] "Trowa's got some gymnastic abilities... Quatre's always going on about that, but I don't think he meant it in terms of defeating an enemy," Duo snickered. [Now that'd be interesting to see...] "And you're good with computers. Anything else I should know?" For the moment, Heero avoided revealing anything about himself. There were... things... about his training he'd like to forget... and knew there was more that thankfully he had forgotten. "Back to Trowa for a minute... those abilities pulled our asses out of a fire. We were being followed by OZ in Gibraltar. He stole a motorcycle and raced off, leading them on a merry chase. Noin told me she saw the end of it. Trowa leaped off the motorcycle onto a clothesline between some houses and sauntered away on it while the OZ car plunged into the bay after the motorcycle. She was so stunned she realized she'd found the Gundam pilot she was looking for. No ordinary person could have done that." "Oh, so gymnastic prowess is good for more than just great sex?" Duo asked, smiling smugly and laughing to himself. He quickly realized that Heero didn't appreciate the joke. [Guess he admires Trowa... they did spend a lot of time together.] "Um, wow, that's quite a story..." Duo said, backpedaling. "I know first hand how fast that guy moves... when I tried to knock him out and take his shuttle he had me turned around and restrained before I knew what hit me." "I can believe it," Heero murmured, staring into his can of cola. [Trowa... you were there for me, lending your silent strength...] "I think he was trained as a mercenary on Earth." Then he closed his eyes and bowed his head a little. "You asked if there was anything else about me you should know," he continued quietly. "I told you a lot in Antarctica about how they tried to suppress my emotions. Basically I was trained to be a professional assassin... a terrorist. The piloting came later." He paused, swallowing. "I'd rather pilot, fight with a mobile suit." "You're an assassin?" Duo asked, unsure of how to react to such an admission. Though Heero had spoken of secret missions before, Duo had never equated the title of assassin or terrorist with his friend. "I suppose OZ would consider all of us terrorists... but I wasn't trained to be one." Duo set down his drink. [I always thought he was a dangerous guy.... gee, is he a ticking time bomb?] "So... do you think about killing people?" "What?" Heero asked, startled, looking up to gape at the other boy. "What do you mean by that?" "Well, I... I dunno," Duo said, shrugging. "I never met an assassin before." [He's still got that look on his face... like I said something really bizarre. Okay, Maxwell, now what? It's hard enough for him to open up and you go and ask him a thing like that.] Duo fidgeted a bit in his chair, reconsidering how he was handling this new information. "It doesn't change anything... I mean, me knowing. You'll still just be Heero, my friend," he said and grinned, reassuringly. "But I'd like to know what it means to be an assassin. See, I've only ever killed in battle... when guys are coming at me and it's kill or be killed." Heero frowned for a moment, processing Duo's words. "Well, I don't think about killing people at all... I mean I never think about it beforehand, when I've had a mission. I just learned what I needed to be doing and did it. If it was an enemy, then it was kill or be killed. There's not much thinking that goes on about it. Later, of course..." He shook his head, trying to dispel the old sick feeling that the memories carried with them still. "I tried not to think about it, about... taking life. It's not at all like I want to do it, or like to do it. I don't. I hate it." The emotion behind those last words slammed into Duo. "Yeah," he said, quietly as he stared at his friend. Heero's turmoil reminded him of the emotions Zechs wrestled with over his vengeful assassination of the Alliance general who had murdered his parents. The end result was very much the same; neither man wanted to be a killer. [But Heero hasn't talked about this with anyone before,] Duo suddenly realized. Before he could decide it was a bad idea, Duo got up from his chair and went over to kneel beside Heero. He looked into his friend's eyes and then impulsively wrapped his arms around him, pulling him into a warm hug. "I'm sorry, Heero." Immediately Heero tensed, blushing at the abrupt physical contact, then fighting an instinct to push the other boy away. Internally he shouted down an old voice, yelling at him to keep everyone at a distance. "Um, ah..." Heero managed to get out, his mind racing. [He's... hugging me? What... what for? What do I do now? Why is *he* sorry?] "You... you didn't do anything," he managed to gasp. Not getting a hug back, Duo slowly released his friend from the embrace, but kept his hands on the other boy's shoulders. "I know, but I'm sorry for what you've gone through." Not wanting to further distress his friend, he gave the shoulders a quick squeeze and then released him, sitting back on his heels and looking up at Heero. "I'm glad you told me," Duo said, smiling. "It's good to talk about stuff. Get it off your chest, you know? Zechs has talked to me lots about his past. I know it's not easy, but I think it helps him. It's good for him to know that someone cares enough to listen." "Y...yeah," Heero uttered, staring at the warm, open expression of his companion. "Um... I thought... when you said that about thinking about killing people, you know... um..." He shook his head again, confused. "You, ah, don't mind? That I was... that." [And what was there in Zechs's past that wasn't easy to talk about?] "No way! Like I said, you're my friend," Duo said, brightly. Then he schooled his features, looking a bit more serious. "I just wanted to be sure I didn't have to sleep with one eye open tonight." He paused after saying that, watching Heero carefully, waiting for him to get the joke, but of course, he didn't. Duo burst out laughing then, unable to contain himself for another second. "I'm joking!" he crowed as he swatted Heero's knee. "I don't mind at all. Really!" Heero blew out his breath in exasperation; he'd frozen momentarily, ice gripping him within at the mention of Duo having to worry about sleeping in the same room with him. [Damn, I never know when he's kidding,] he thought in consternation, then got a grip on himself. "That's good, because I doubt you'd get much sleep that way," he murmured. [Did that sound stupid? That sounded stupid...] "Heh," Duo chuckled mildly. Then he thought about the significance of what had just happened. "Hey, you made a joke, Heero," Duo said and then really started to laugh. "Wow!" "I did?" Heero flushed again, drawing his brows together. [Pretty pathetic, aren't I? I don't even get my own jokes.] "Um, look, we need to plan that meeting, Duo..." "Cracking the ol' whip, eh?" Duo snickered, not letting up on the jokes... even if they did go over Heero's head. He got up and stretched and yawned loudly. "Yeah, we should get a move on if we want that meeting to go as planned." He reached over for his cap and then turned to his friend. "Good talking with ya', Heero. We should do this again... real soon." [Um, is he going somewhere? Ah... oh...] Nodding, Heero took a long swig from his cola can, deciding that definitely Duo Maxwell had to be on his top five list for Heero Yuy's personal life challenges...
At Colony D-120, Zechs said farewell to the two GAIA White Taurus pilots who were staying behind as he and Perry Reglor in the other Taurus departed for Peacemillion, each in a shuttle carrying their mobile suit. As Zechs changed back into his GAIA uniform, he called in to the other shuttle to maintain radio silence on the way back. No need to attract OZ's attention now... or lead them to the GAIA base. [I wonder how Duo and Heero are doing...] he thought as he closed down the connection, then reached for his boots to pull them on. Unexpectedly, an image of his lover came to mind - the night before Quatre Winner had intercepted Duo in Cairo to inform him that his new lover was an OZ Colonel. Zechs and Duo had gone dancing... and they had cut quite a sight in the club, drawing many stares and not a few mouths hanging open. Zechs knew the admiration did not extend solely to himself... Duo was irresistible! Dance he did indeed, the braid bouncing all over the place as he laughed and wriggled... and slid sensuously up against him. Despite his tender age, Duo Maxwell was one hot little number... knew it... exulted in it, in his sexuality and the effect he had on others. It had occurred to Zechs that had the other Gundam pilots - Heero or Wufei, actually - had at all been interested, one of them could have seriously gone for Duo. Quatre and Trowa were already fairly involved before they'd even met Duo, it had seemed. Duo was a head-turner, that was obvious. Of course Zechs knew he himself drew the attention of others - male and female - in the same way, but Duo was every bit a match for him in looks and sheer sensuality. [Well, though my good friend Treize is another looker, he's rather a bit stiff himself,] Zechs thought, smiling. [I wonder... Hmmm...] Then his thoughts turned back to his darling Duo. That night, after exhausting themselves on the dance floor, they'd dragged themselves back to the inn... where they managed to recover a burst of energy somewhere. After a quick fuck at the edge of the bed with nearly all their clothes still on, the boy had gleefully stripped and undone the braid, transforming from a hot little number to some exotic and erotic fairy creature who, once he'd gotten his tall lover naked on their bed had proceeded to eagerly impale himself on Zechs's cock and dance upon it anew... Groaning, Zechs now threw himself on the narrow cot in the tiny stateroom of the shuttle. At the image of his Duo with that luscious chestnut hair spilling all over those slender limbs, he got very hard and hastily worked his pants open again to free himself. His other hand unbuttoned the dark green uniform jacket and fresh, pale blue shirt open again, then fingers slid up to rub a nipple as he fit his hand around his erect shaft. [Duo, my darling angel, my hot, sweet little fox,] Zechs moaned within his mind as he began to stroke himself to that delicious image, imagining that he was deep within the tight depths of his lover. In his mind he replayed the wild sex of that night, his Dancer abandoning himself to his eager bouncing. Zechs drew forward a long length of his own hair to rub against his nipples, imagining it was Duo's hair. [You gorgeous, wanton little beast,] he crowed silently, breathing hard as he worked his fist over his erection. [Can't wait until I can fuck you again! God, you're beautiful now... and you're only going to get more beautiful and hotter as you get older... and once we get a bit more muscle on you...] The thought shoved him abruptly over the edge and Zechs moaned as he came onto his chest, the pleasure shuddering hard throughout his entire body. As he came down from the orgasm, he glanced down at himself... and laughed again, wishing his Duo could see how utterly wanton he looked with his uniform wide open and cum streaking his chest and abdomen. Satisfied, he lay there a moment more, thinking that Duo's mission with Heero ought to end in a few more days... and oh, what a reunion they'd have...! Chuckling again, he rose to clean up. [Reunion sex... gotta love it,] he thought with a smug smirk. [Treize, may I wish upon you a bright, energetic demon of a lover like I have who will turn your life inside out and make you laugh and grin like you never have in your life... and forget all about this fucking war...] Turning to face the direction of the Earth from the shuttle, Zechs sketched off a jaunty salute before returning to the shuttle controls. But it was a while before he himself could stop grinning like a fool.
