in the Sank Kingdom, to the GAIA pilots aboard the Peacemillion in
orbit, for some personal conversations. "Conversations " 3) Relena opened her mouth, but shut it again. She'd wanted to retort that Duo was too young for him, but their conversation had already settled that argument. Plainly her brother thought of Duo in a way she couldn't imagine; he viewed Duo as an adult ready for what was obviously a very adult relationship. [He didn't even say they were dating... so it's permanent? They're really... in love?] Then she recalled the last time she'd seen Heero and Duo together at that school. Duo had waved and called out to her, calling her "Good-lookin'", grinning cheekily while Heero behind him only glowered at her. Then another boy had passed the pair and just before Relena had turned to go, Duo had let his glance slide down the boy's body before he'd turned away completely, leading Heero supposedly off to class. Relena felt her cheeks grow a little hot. [Oh, my...] Then she realized that neither Heero nor Duo had looked at her with any sort of *that* interest. [Oh, dear...] Hastily she replied to her brother, whom she belatedly realized was waiting for a response. "You're really in love with Duo?" she asked, hoping she didn't sound too stupid. [Well, of course he is!] Duo thought indignantly, not liking her tone. "Yes," Zechs answered, smiling easily. "He's brought sunshine and joy and energy into my life. I met him when I was having a very difficult time with my own role in OZ and I was struggling with disillusionment... and sorrow. He helped me find my way out of that. And I like to think that with me he's found a stability he's never had in his own turbulent life. He, too, is an orphan, you see." Duo felt his legs go weak with the beautiful words. He stumbled toward the bed and sat down on its edge, somehow managing not to make it creak under his weight. ['Sunshine and joy',] he repeated in his mind as his heart pounded. Zechs had often shared his feelings with Duo, but to hear him tell another of those feelings meant even more. [He credits me with so much change in his life... and it's true he's been the best thing for me, too.] "Yes," Relena responded, nodding though she was still trying to wrap her mind around the concept of *that* boy, so different from Heero, being romantically involved with her brother... *her* brother, the former OZ colonel. [So much I don't know or understand yet... but I will ask Treize if he can tell me more about my brother so I may understand what this relationship means to him...] "Then the relationship seems good for you both, and I am glad for you, Milliardo." "You are?" Zechs inquired, peering at her intently. In truth he didn't care whether Relena approved or not; her opinion didn't matter to him because she couldn't possibly understand. But her apparent acceptance was nevertheless welcome. It would make things easier when they did meet in person... especially if he was accompanied by Duo. "Why, yes, of course!" Relena replied brightly. "Love is a rare treasure in life, and it is to be prized, no matter where we find it." [And if I had any idea if Heero had ever had one moment of thinking about me in a warm manner, I'd be in outer space myself right this minute... but I don't know that, so...] Zechs relaxed, nodding. "I've learned that as well, little sister. I certainly was not looking for a relationship at all. Nor was Duo. But I believe our meeting was kismet." He bowed his head, musing about the might-have-been. [You bet! How else could we ever have found each other on the GlobalNet?] Duo thought, still amazed that their paths had crossed. [I will ask Treize what Milliardo is like,] Relena decided, realizing that she should let her brother go. "Milliardo, it has been so good to talk with you at last," she said, smiling. "I promise I'll do my best to make you proud of me... and I wish you well with GAIA and your work with the colonies." "And I wish you well also, Relena," Zechs murmured, straightening. "And good luck. I think Treize is pleased with your progress. I'm glad to hear that." "Oh!" Relena smiled broadly, inordinately pleased that her mentor had actually expressed an opinion about her to her brother. "Thank you!" She gazed at her sibling a moment, just happy to have spoken to him at last. Then she ventured, "Um, is there any way I could say hello to Heero?" [I knew it! Damn, I wish I could warn him somehow...] Duo thought and almost laughed aloud. [She's still fascinated with him; I can't blame her,] Zechs thought, amused. "Certainly. I'll transfer you back to the communications center. Well. Take care, Relena." "You too, Milliardo," Relena murmured in response, bowing her head a little.
Duo sat motionless for a moment, watching as Zechs settled back in his chair. It was strange being here like this, being privy to the man's private conversation and now his solitude. Duo knew he should announce himself, but he could not help but indulge in a moment of anonymity, a moment when he was truly the proverbial 'fly on the wall' and watch his beloved. The man's beauty and elegance always drew a longing sigh from Duo's lips. [God, I love him,] he thought and then smiled, knowing that Zechs loved him just as deeply. [Now I hope he won't be upset with me for eavesdropping.] At last, Duo rose from the bed and cleared his throat. "Zechs," he said timidly. Zechs gave a little start, the sound of his lover's voice going straight to the core of him. "Oh, I didn't hear you come in, love!" he exclaimed as he rose from the chair, laying down the book. He turned, his long, platinum hair swirling around him, and opened his arm to the young pilot in invitation. "I guess I was absorbed in my reading," he added, smiling. Duo rushed into the man's arms and gave him a fierce hug. "You're so wonderful," the boy said, still feeling overcome from all he had heard. With another squeeze of his arms around Zechs's middle he mumbled into the man's chest, "I hope you won't be too upset with me." Closing his arms around his little love, Zechs looked down at the tousled head of chestnut hair in wonder. "Why would I be upset with you, Duo?" Then he chuckled, closing a hand around the braid automatically as he often did. "Oh, wait, let me guess... you finally killed Heero? You dyed Quatre's hair green to match Trowa's eyes?" "No, nothing like that," Duo said, chuckling as he looked up into those blue eyes. [Well, he's in a better mood than I thought he'd be after that call.] "It's just that..." Duo began to say and then ducked his head. "I... I've been here a little while. I came in and heard you talking to Relena and I... I guess I was curious and so I stayed," he said tentatively and then looked up through his heavy bangs. "I hope you don't mind." Zechs tipped the boy's chin up with a finger. "You heard... all of it?" he asked, sobering as he studied the cobalt blue eyes. The boy's brow tightened with his lover's question. [I knew I shouldn't have stayed...] "Well, I heard a lot." A corner of Zechs's mouth tugged upwards. "I imagine you heard me gushing about you," he commented dryly. "I'm afraid I'm quite an education for Relena, worse than whatever Treize is teaching her." Duo blushed. "Yeah, I heard what you said about me." He couldn't help a smile, but he still felt awkward having to 'fess up to his eavesdropping. "It felt good hearing you say those things about me to someone else." The rest of Zechs and Relena's conversation he wasn't quite sure how to address. Much of it had centered around Zechs's life and responsibilities as a prince; something Duo still didn't really understand. "I meant them, you know," Zechs murmured quietly, stroking Duo's back in a loving caress. "And I don't mind that you heard all that. I do have to admit I'm tremendously relieved Relena took it so well. I was hoping she could be reasonable. Considering that she's as much a hothead as me... well, it could have gotten ugly. And I do not need unpleasantness like that right now." His voice softened. "Too much is going on." "If she'd objected to us, I would've spoken up," Duo said defiantly. He quickly imagined the scene, seeing himself bound across the room to interrupt the conversation by slipping his arms around Zechs's shoulders and then smiling smugly at Relena. "Nobody's getting between us!" "Oh, you are so right, my fierce little fighter," Zechs purred, snuggling the shorter, slender body against his tall frame, fitting his lover closer. "I almost wished you'd had a chance to rush to our defense. That would have been a sight to see, you squared off against my sister!" "You would've liked that, huh?" Duo asked in wonderment. "Gee, now I wish I had," he smiled and wriggled in his lover's arms. It was so good being in Zechs's arms, there was nothing else quite like it. "I could've given you a big smack on the lips... maybe even slipped you the tongue right in front of her! That would've made things perfectly clear." He couldn't resist smiling devilishly at the impact that scene would have had on Zechs's proper little sister. Zechs laughed out loud. "Oh, you wicked little fox!" The sensual writhing against him was sending certain signals to a certain part of his body. "You are such a performer... well, I think I could go along with that some day. Perhaps we should practice? We don't want any confusion, you know..." As he spoke, one hand shifted down to palm one cheek of Duo's ass. The touch to his behind sent Duo's nerves skittering wildly. "Heh, I think we should practice and then practice some more," the boy said, snickering. Then he raised himself up on his tiptoes and puckered his lips sensually, indicating he wanted that kiss... now. "Oh, you are SO ready," Zechs chuckled, then bent down to claim the sweet mouth with his, sliding his tongue inside when Duo's lips parted for him eagerly. Their tongues tangled in a familiar dance, the sheer sensuality fueling an equally familiar fire within them. [Now this is what I need after having to deal with Little Sister,] Zechs thought, ready to lose himself with his lover, feeling himself harden. With his lover's tongue exploring his mouth, loving him, Duo found himself drifting to that place where only he and Zechs existed. It still amazed him how quickly they transitioned to love-making, but Zechs had explained it so well... their life together was continual foreplay. The thought made Duo's lips curve into a smile as he was thoroughly kissed. "Mmm," he moaned, tangling his hands in his lover's long, silken hair. [I think my little fox needs yet another reminder of just who claims him,] Zechs was thinking while plundering the sweet depths of his lover's mouth. [Yeah, I think that's what's needed now...]
"Heero, how good to see you again!" Relena exclaimed, smiling pleasantly. "You're looking very well, Heero!" "Hn. Well, Dr. Sally is making sure we eat. So I guess I've put on a little weight," Heero replied, sighing. [Girls...] "It looks good on you," Relena replied, but took note of his little sigh and decided to steer the conversation on to something else. "So how do you like working with my brother?" Heero widened his eyes at her momentarily, then narrowed them again, wondering about the girl's motives. "Fine. Zechs is a good man." Relena studied his face, wondering as well. "But you and he used to fight a lot, didn't you?" [Here we go...] "We challenged each other in tests of mobile suit fighting, yes," he answered. "Duels to establish superiority. It had nothing to do with the war." "Nothing to do with the war?" Relena was stunned. "How can you say that? He was a highly placed officer in OZ and you're a Gundam pilot! You're enemies!" "Were enemies," Heero corrected her firmly. "But even at that, our battles were personal. It doesn't matter, that's all over with now. Zechs and I have continued our contests by means of simulation games and we are equals and happy to leave it like that. He's my friend and a good comrade." "Oh, I see," Relena murmured, not seeing at all. [How can you be an enemy once and then be a friend? I don't get it...] "So, you like Zechs?" Heero frowned. "What's that supposed to mean?" Relena shrugged, tossing her hair a bit. "Oh, nothing. Can I ask you something rather bold, Heero?" [If only I could say no,] he thought, frowning. "Go ahead." She leaned into the screen as if she could get closer to him. "What do you think of my brother being with that boy with the braid? That... Duo?" [Shit, I *knew* she was going to ask that.] Heero leaned in as well, mimicking her action. "It's the best thing that's ever happened to both of them," he replied firmly. That wasn't what Relena was expecting to hear. "What... what did you say?" Heero took a deep breath. "They're very good for each other, Relena, and I hope you can respect that. You have no idea what Zechs was like before meeting Duo. Or maybe you do - didn't you ever talk to Noin about him? Or to Treize? Noin, more than Treize, though, knows exactly what I'm talking about. Zechs is a changed man, changed for the better." "Oh... why, I..." Relena cleared her throat. This was a different picture of the situation than what Mr. Treize had painted for her, but then, she was now beginning to understand. Treize hadn't seen Duo with Zechs either. "No, Noin didn't talk about him. I didn't know he was alive until Treize came to take her place here. He was the one who told me. And then Noin was gone the next day to rejoin you guys." "I see," Heero murmured. [She really doesn't know...] "Well, you need to talk to Noin then. But I will tell you what I know if you're interested." [I'd hoped to talk to Heero about...er... us, but I should have expected he'd be focused on his missions in space... and his new organization,] she mused before responding. [This is so odd... I thought he barely tolerated Duo...] "Yes, I'm very interested. I should get to know my brother, and hearing about him through another's perspective will be very helpful." Heero nodded. Zechs had told him a great deal about those last few weeks before the fateful meeting in Cairo, stories shared over coffee. He knew Zechs had told Duo everything as well, but it had clearly been helpful for the man to also share with someone not so personally involved with him. "Well, some of this will be hard to hear," he murmured. "I can bear it," Relena insisted. Behind her, Treize had silently entered to listen in. Heero could see the man at the edge of his screen, but decided not to alert Relena to the man's presence. [Treize needs to know how she feels about her brother,] he thought. [It could help him in his work with her.] "Very well," Heero replied. Then he began to tell her the story of two OZ Lieutenants who'd commanded the No. 33 Independent Troops of Northeast Africa, Somalia Front.
